  1. I’m not sure I can name more than 2 or 3 songs they’ve released besides Wilco (the song) since that album came out.
  2. Necro Wilco bump. Just listening to the new album and really like it. Discussions about the relative merits of their albums are great because there are so many good ones. I mostly listen to the first 6 and Sky Blue Sky is my favorite. Disc 1 side 1 is one of the best sides of vinyl out there. To keep this topical, Norah Jones has a song called Wintertime on her new album written and recorded with Jeff Tweedy at the loft. Great song and there is a really good discussion about it on the Broken Record podcast.
  3. Both my brother and I think it is pretty cool we met up online all these years later. I think we took a few pictures and when I get a chance later this week, I will try to find them to see if I got the back of your head in any.
  4. True, even the shows I saw where the music wasn’t so great were insanely great experiences. Nothing like it and impossible to explain unless you were there.
  5. I wasn’t really prudish about substances, but hadn’t smoked for a few reasons. I had some friends who tripped all the time in HS and was around them a lot while it was going on. I knew if I tripped, I wanted it to be somewhere like a Dead show. It was amazing. One of the best nights of my life and truly a life-changing experience. The only other time I did acid was at the second night at Soldier Field that summer. Also an awesome experience. Traffic opened.
  6. I am jealous of that shirt. I wanted it but loaned my brother money in the lot and then didn’t have enough cash to get 2 shirts. I have always wished I got that one. I got a white one that looks like the MD snake symbol. I talked to my brother and he remembers y’all taping. That was the first time I had ever heard The Wheel. It was so cool coming out of space.
  7. You we’re probably sharing with my brother. I hadn’t ever smoked at that point and don’t think I did there. That show was my first heady experience. What a way to do it, nothing but great memories!
  8. That is exactly where we were sitting. So cool! My brother had us supplied similar to your friend, so from ~Eternity on, I was in peak form. I remember really getting into it during Iko, Iko and how intense the peaks were in the Dew. The crowd was going nuts. its weird how shitty the recording quality is those last few years given how good they sound from 20-25 years prior. And fuck 6 song first sets.
  9. Weird, it probably was you. I don’t remember the taping, but it was definitely 3 guys. Another weird coincidence from that show is shortly after getting to UT in the fall, I met and started hanging out with a really cool girl from Chicago. Maybe a week or so later the Rosemont show came up and we figured out she and her friend had been sitting next to us at the show. We both bought our tickets second hand from a broker called Mr. B’s in Skokie and had talked a bit at the show.
  10. My first show was the 3/17/94 Rosemont show. I was 17, in high school, and drove up with my brother who was at A&M (I learned from his mistakes). He saw them in Vegas the previous spring. It was awesome of him to plan this trip so I could experience a show. I really like the Touch, lazy river road, and althea in the first set and the pre drums portion of the second set. The Dew and Rain are both really good too. Of the 4 shows I saw, it is the only one worth listening too from start to finish. They really were a shell by then. i remember talking to some older guys from San Marcus who were sitting in front of us (we were on the left side maybe 1/2 way up, tough to remember). There was also some asshole who kept yelling “Goldschlager (sp?)” and “play a little disco, play some shakedown” through the first set, but luckily he moved on at some point. It is weird the things I remember.
  11. That guy was pretty funny on the doc. I need to rewatch it properly as I watched it when it came out on my phone as our family toured Newfoundland. listening to the jam>dark star from DaP 32 (3/24/73 philly spectrum). The Spanish jam following the phil jam is pretty great. The Spectrum shows from that era are amazing. 9/21/72 (DiP36) is one of the best front to back show they ever played (best ever Cumberland, top 3 bird song, top 5 dark star. Great Dew). The Truckin>other one jam from 9/21/73 has my personal favorite jam ever right before a great MLB jam. Not rated high on Heady, but should be.
  12. More evidence that our seasons have been really similar.
  13. 47 years ago tonight the Dead played Municipal Auditorium here in Austin. Caught part of it on TIGDH on Sirius on my way home. The Other One is one of the better ones I’ve heard in a while. Bob has a pretty cool solo of sorts somewhere in there. Gonna check out some of the rest of the show now.
  14. I love Let the Good Times Roll-it’s one of my favorite show openers. I love Sam Cooke’s original too (it’s really just called Good Times). The Downhill From Here video is so great. anyway, the third verse (Jerry’s) doesn’t appear in any other version I’ve heard. I’ve always wondered if they wrote it and added it in so everyone would have a verse to sing. Googling only turns up one person asking the same question. Maybe I’ll write Dave Lemieux. And I hate the version that I’ve been seeing on some casino or cruise commercial lately.
  15. Over the weekend my 9 year old ran into my bedroom and proceeded to sing along to, as she calls it, “roll away the dew”. She acts like she doesn’t like GD stuff, but her singing along shows it has grown on her.
  16. Awesome. When I tell my kids I just want to hear one song, they know they need to Put a time limit on it or I’ll pick a 72-73 dark star or playin. i think 6/14/76 is my favorite Crazy Fingers. I am at home with a sick kid today and am going to check out 8/18/89 Greek Theatre
  17. Try 325mg aspirin 30 min prior (Unless you have bleeding issues) https://www.aafp.org/afp/1998/0415/p1933.html
  18. The PNW set is great. The two big truckin jams are so good and the Bird song is the only one I’ve heard that compares to my 3 long-time favorites (8/27, 9/21, and 9/27 all in 72). The 9/21/72 one has a spot shortly into the jam where Jerry drops out with a broken string. Keith lays down a solo so good i don’t miss Jerry even a little. That show also has by far my favorite Cumberland and my #2 Playin after 8/27/72. The DarkStar>Dew is great too. While I love the Dick’s pick quality, for some reason I think my old tape (1st gen my brother made me from a DAT) just crackles with energy a bit more. Memories of listening to those tapes over and over on my Walkman while walking thru campus is probably why I love that show so much. Same with 9/10/91.
  19. I really like the 2/26/77 show (Dave’s picks 29). Great sound. I just got DaP32 (3/24/73) today and am about halfway through. Really nice recording of what is, so far a really good show. It is a Kidd Candelario/Rex Jackson recording. The shows they release taped by Kidd always sound great. Highlights for me so far are Cumberland, Row Jimmy, Tennessee Jed, Here Comes Sunshine, Playin, China/Rider, Stella Blue. Can’t wait for the big jam in set 2. I always come back to 72-74 as my favorite era and this show is a good one.
  20. I really like Bonnie Prince Billy’s version of that song. Wish the Dead had played it earlier too as the versions I have found are underwhelming. No idea why it showed up so late.
  21. Right after posting thought of the song I wish they’d played: Freedom Jazz Dance Jerry played it with Legion of Mary. There is one version on Spotify and I have another on a cassette somewhere. There is also a String Cheese version of the song there from a show I saw at the Backyard in ~03 (miss that place). great old funky jazz song. 73-77 dead would have absolutely slayed it..
  22. Love the GD channel. Caught the Other One from 10/24/72 on TIGDH the other day. Phil took charge and led a really cool bass driven jam. Apparently they did it a few times and tapers named it the Philo Stomp. Really good stuff if you are into the 73 jazzy stuff. with regard to covers I wish they had done, maybe more Sam Cooke (Bring it on home to me or You Send Me?). I love LTGTR. Also, more of the old country stuff. I never skip Big River, You Win Again, Race is On, tomorrow is Forever, etc. love that stuff. A Buck Owens cover or two would have been good (Under your Spell again?). I would want them to pick the tune since they were so good at picking one that they could make their own. A lot of the covers Jerry played with JGB were ripe for a Dead version too.
  23. Bad-ass. My father in law was involved with the Nobel physics nominations last year (not sure in what capacity) and afterwards said he lobbied hard for him. I guess his efforts paid off a year late. Said Dr. Goodenough is one of the nicest people in the field and really deserves it.
  24. Those Warlocks shows are awesome. They are really locked in. love the Bird Song (always a favorite) and the whole 2nd set from night 2 is gonna get a lot of play. You can feel the energy from the crowd when they bust out Dark Star. The new 91 giants stadium show that dropped is really damn good too. The Eyes opener is so tight and then pre-drums is really long and slams hard. I hadn’t listened to this show and was surprised that Dark Star (pt 4) isn’t exactly that (spoiler?). I always enjoyed how they fuck with naming jams on official releases. I’ll try to drop in a little more. I am studying for a Masters and have been listening to a lot of Dead for motivation/boredom relief.
  25. Truth. I am a somewhat fat 40 something dad and hurt my knee playin soccer with my girls last Saturday. I couldn't bend it for 4 days without intense pain. MRI showed bruised bone and I think it will be better in another week or two. I am still shocked I didn’t tear something given how much pain I was in.
