  1. I’ve always liked the later brent years. The Terrapin Station (limited) 3-15-90 and Dozin at the Knick versions are my go to’s. The debut from last years DaP 29 is great too. Show opener!
  2. With young kids, traveling for shows isn’t happening for me. As a Cubs fan, seeing them at Wrigley would be a dream. Sure hope you can make it! Right now listening to Garcia plays Dylan. I have been getting into the late period Visions of Johanna. The 95 version on the 30 trips disc is one of my favorites of the whole thing. I also love the Positively 4th Street by JGB. I have always loved the the put down line that closes the song: “i wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes-you’d know what a drag it is to see you”
  3. Agree on the Eyes and Black Peter. Both are great versions.
  4. I just got mine last night and only made it through Ramble on Rose so far. I have never been a big Might as Well guy, but that version smokes! Somehow this show never got on my radar so it is new to me. So far it seems like one of those shows where every version is top notch. The Loser is maybe my favorite I’ve heard and the El Paso has some really cool key work from Keith. Can’t wait to finish it!
  5. One of the April 78 Dave’s picks has a phenomenal Wharf Rat (maybe 4/22). I missed the GDTRFB but heard a Bertha right after the Niners scored early in he game.
  6. I love Elvis Costello’s Ship if Fools too. And on the Jane’s Ripple, at the end you can hear them segueing to The Other One as it fades out. They would have done a great version and I always have wished the track kept going.
  7. I have been waiting for an Alpine 89 box set as one of my next big GD purchases. All 3 shows are great. The West LA fade-away and Deal are so good on that video.
  8. When my oldest daughter was 4 or 5 she was sitting next to her mom. My wife smelled a fart and asked if it was her. She replied, “That was just a gentle hello.” Gentle hello has replaced SBD in our house ever since.
  9. I love that Rain encore. Yesterday I listened to my Dick’s Picks 1 vinyl. Great versions of everything. The Here Comes Sunshine is the reason Dick picked that show for #1 and always smokes!
  10. I checked this out on my way to work. Really nice version. Bird Song is probably my favorite song of theirs. Great melody and lyrics and it is a great jam vehicle for them during all eras.
  11. I’ll have to check out that 81 show this week. Traces of Texas shared the Archie Bell song Tighten Up yesterday. It is worth a listen as it is thought to be where the Dead got inspiration for the Tighten Up jam- 1/2/70 Dark Star (DaP30) , Dancin at Harper College 70 (DiP8) and 10/31/71 Dark Star (DiP2). The jam on that 10/31/71 Dark Star has always been a favorite of mine.

    Led Zeppelin

I love Dave Rawlings and this version of Going to California is really good:
  13. Do you drive 183? I have used it for my commute for about 4 years now (Anderson Square to Ben White). While driving south in the mornings and north in the evenings as you describe, I have seen clogged up traffic in the other direction during this whole time period. I am sure traffic is heavier in the direction I am traveling, but to claim it doesn’t clog is not true.

    Countryisms

More country than a fried okra sandwich a shop keeper out in Leakey used this to describe the hunting guide my brother was looking to meet up with.
  15. I listened to the Red Rocks ‘78 ship of fools today. Such a great version with one of my favorite Jerry vocal performances. also, I am pretty pumped for the 1st couple Dave’s Picks that have been announced for next year. The Jai-Alai Fronton show has been on my wish list for years. I renewed my subscription to keep my complete set going. My mom got me the first year subscription shortly before she got sick and the last one that year arrived after she had passed. I keep getting it partly in tribute to her, but mostly because I love getting quarterly Dead in the mail She would definitely want me to keep treating myself.
  16. The Road Taken with CT and Baio is pretty good. Two of the other guys in Vampire Weekend host and talk to musicians and tell stories about life while out on tour. It is pretty new, but they have some really good guests.
  17. I didn’t get a chance to look yet. I have a huge box of photos to go through and want to wait for a time my kids aren’t around. Not sure I want them to see everything in there and they will destroy whatever loose order is there.
  18. Merry Christmas!!! i just spent an hour outside listening to the warlocks 89 shows and breaking down boxes since our recycling is being picked up tomorrow. What a great Feel like a Stranger (without a net version?) I didn’t get anything Dead related yet, but I know my brother got me the vinyl of either Dick’s picks 24 or 34. I’ll have to wait to see him. It might be a straight up trade as I got him #24.
  19. I think that is one of the reasons the pharmacy moved. She objected to the gelatin in gel capsules, the pig thyroid in old school thyroid tabs, etc. also tried to tell them they couldn’t treat for ants and other pests.

  21. My grandpa used to tell me about what a badass King Carl was. He had the most ridiculous all-star game outing the next year (I looked it up because I thought it might have helped him win that MVP). He struck out 5 hall of Famers in succession: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin. Can’t argue with a triple crown deserving an MVP though.
  22. One of my favorite shows. I am not usually a big CC Rider fan, but the CC>it takes a lot to laugh is so good. The interplay between Branford, Bruce, and Jerry is great.
  23. Watching All the Years the years on YouTube while cruising through Olympic National Park on the Peloton we got for Christmas. This Help>Slip>Frank from RFK 91 is pretty good This Bird Song came up a couple songs later. Gonna keep going until I hit 10-15 miles. Good ride!
