  1. Also a gay porn dude who Greg Abbott is very fond of was outed yesterday. His job was to promote using public funds to pay for private schools. https://www.sacurrent.com/news/school-voucher-evangelist-with-texas-ties-on-leave-after-gay-porn-videos-resurface-35664019
  2. Good idea. I'm booked in a deluxe veranda and (currently, anyway) the only upgrade available is for a "premium veranda." No change in amenities between the two, same amount of floor space and position in the ship, and I think I like the deluxe's floor plan better. I'll check again after this storm hits Florida, maybe there'll be a cancellation or two.
  3. I just read The Hill article and looked to see if there was a thread about the lawsuit here. Hopefully the lawsuit stands up to the lack of jurisdiction argument and is allowed to proceed. The guy (owner of CircleX) who brought the suit has an interesting background - from Enron. He said his experience there where he watched Enron traders fuck over California 20 years earlier was what allowed him to spot the pattern of what they were doing to Texas.
  4. live blogging the new book
  5. Starlink is apparently available for purchase through 3rd countries but shutting down its use by Ruz has not been successful, probably because Elon Musk sucks. https://defence--ua-com.translate.goog/news/rf_vstanovila_na_shahed_136_starlink_ochevidno_tse_bulo_lishe_pitannja_chasu-16716.html?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp
  6. One unexpected benefit of not changing my 512 cell number when I moved to the 970 is that I instantly know if it's a robocall/spam, because anyone I know from the 512 is already saved in my phone.
  7. The US Secret Service...more pissed about this than I am about the hand-picked flunkies of Dotard nearly allowing him to get murdered. real clear politics report https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2024/09/25/secret_service_agent_accused_of_sexually_assaulting_campaign_aide.html
  8. Never thought I'd go on a cruise, for all the reasons Sydney mentioned earlier. But the wife and I are about to go around Japan with a stop in Busan, Korea too. On the same cruise line @Ghost of LL mentioned. We're not big drinkers, nor gamblers. The ship we're on doesn't have a casino, afaik. It has frequent ports of call, and excursions are included - can even go on one in the morning and one in the afternoon. To my understanding there's nothing on board that requires extra payment except for spa visits (but the cruise price includes credit toward), some ultra-premium liquors, and if you require the more expensive caviar. They even have free, stocked laundry rooms on each deck, for the plebes like me. If you're in a higher-end suite, laundry service is included. Wifi is included but I may have to upgrade to premium if I want to stream the RRS in the middle of the night. I think we'll mostly use the butler for setting up morning coffee service on the veranda, and probably to indulge in caviar in the afternoon. I've heard the food is sensational, especially on the trips around Asia, as they base on the ports of call. It's definitely expensive enough to keep out the riff raff but whether that will be sufficient to exclude people who'll I'll find annoying af, or make them easy to avoid, is TBD. I expect this will be our only cruise - one and done.
  9. The most recent concern I read about was Ruzzia potentially withholding enriched uranium in trade. The US (and Europe) buy it because we stopped producing our own in hopes that closer economic ties with Ruzzia would be beneficial. Instead all it's done is leave the US and Europe vulnerable to energy shortages.
  10. I thought I'd have my exit strategy in place by now, if needed, but it's been delayed by unforeseen circumstances. As if we don't have enough to worry about now, the projected map for 2032 looks quite challenging without a major shift.
  11. "FSD is suspect" is quite an understatement. Looking forward to many spectacular robotaxi crashes, hopefully with Elmo as a passenger. Weeks out from Robotaxi unveiling, overall performance of Tesla's camera-enabled, autonomous-driving software is suspect. insert gif :elon furiously tweeting in passenger of robotaxi as it smashes into a concrete barrier at 60 mph:

  13. Elon is tired and very annoyed by so many people blocking him and has decided to strike back. Over/under on how many days this change will last?
  14. That's what the announcer said. But I don't think the damn football was above the post! Also within a few plays after aggy kicked off following the allowed field goal, there was a verrrry late hit out of bounds that was uncalled. The announcers correctly noted it. But the refs gave it zero thought. edit, found it - here at 2:17, 28 seconds - the missed/made field goal was a minute prior
  15. The refs literally gave them the game
  16. Huh maybe my "Chocolate Is Delicious" and "Oxygen Is Good" shirts are now back in vogue.
  17. Yeah, it barely made the news. That's really distressing. New Hampshire just passed it (it takes effect after this election), and I doubt most of the state's aware 30% of NH women are about to be disenfranchised. There's unreliable Dems on the Senate side right now like Sinema, Manchin and Fetterman, and who know where we'll be after this election. And then there's the unpredictability of a fully politicized and untethered Supreme Court. It's something that needs much greater awareness.
  18. That's obvious. But also not the point.
  19. There hasn't been much discussion anywhere about how the bill Dotard has been pushing to get into law (under the fake allegations that people here illegally vote) would have immediately stopped about 30 percent of the women in this country from voting, because their married name may not be one their passport, or the name they registered to vote under. If that shit were to pass, even after the election, it will be a huge hassle for a huge number of women.
  20. I feel like I know way too much about Space Karen but I may have to read Character Limit just to read the bit about a former Twitter data scientist.
  21. Tell me this is the first time you've paid close attention to a US election without telling me.
