  1. Regardless of how long it takes Wells to adapt to D1 hitting, I have to think Hunter's gone. Losing six seniors with an incoming class of seven from HS suggests she won't be the only departure, either. Add another new face or two via the portal and we could have a roster much younger than this year's, but with a ton of championship DNA freshly baked in. Not trying to jinx us, but it all sets up as a great scenario for a repeat.
  2. On today's Coffee & Football, Mike White said one of the more interesting things I've ever heard stated by a coach in any sport. In talking about how he's mellowed out and isn't as much a stickler for every detail as he once was, he noted (paraphrasing here), "Guys need to play good to feel good. Girls need to feel good to play good." What a perfect way to describe it. The difference in demeanor of male vs. female participants in most team sports has always been clear, but I'd never really thought about it being "hard-wired." Now that I reflect on it, I realize that even in high-pressure situations, the best softball and volleyball seem to be played when girls don't appear to take things all that seriously. Not sure if this "rule" applies as much to basketball, in which all the top women's coaches (including Vic) seem to spend most of every game screaming about something and subbing girls out quickly following mistakes. Of course, the physical nature and flow of basketball dictate far more of a moment-by-moment coaching approach than is true of softball or even volleyball. But even in basketball girls rarely get as visibly upset when they screw up or are sent to the bench. Maybe there's just way less ego involved.
  3. Left a whole lot on the bone there. Hope it doesn't matter.
  4. Old buddy of mine used to play a little baseball and later served on the Murray State BOR. I'm pulling hard for his guys tonight...and hopefully beyond.
  5. Rumor of it trending much more heavily toward NIL vs. fit...which we know isn't Sark's cup o' tea. But who knows? Not I.
  6. The gruntling continues! Welcome aboard!
  7. How do Pannell and Johnson compare? The former certainly has had a lot of relief experience, which could be useful. Johnson had big K numbers the past two seasons, but I'm not sure how good her opponents were. Anyway, either lefty would seem well worth pursuing.
  8. Reggie Bush's lateral...David Freese's dramatics...Craig Curry's muffed return. There's a reason so many sports fans end up in AA.
  9. Found them! Just took much deeper digging. Aggy and the swine were vying for that top spot until the real season began. https://www.on3.com/softball/news/softball-america-top-25-rankings-final-2025/
  10. Texas just made a joke of the old adage, "Defense wins championships." Although along the way there were some epic defensive plays made in clutch situations, we'd all agree it was far from a strong season in that regard. In terms of our 2025 roster, I love that it was assembled as it was. A largely homegrown team despite having another of the best homegrown players in the land not even playing an inning all season. Texas fans should be proud of how this squad was constructed and developed. Credit to White and his staff for that. Going forward will be interesting. We know future major college champions in every team sport are likely to be a strategic mix of talent from various sources. Toward the end, not even master recruiter and developer Nick Saban was doing it all with his own HS recruits. I don't think Sark, Schloss, Miller or Schaefer will ever try to prove they can. And no matter how well White recruits from the HS ranks, he'd be crazy not to keep adding transfers strategically. I look forward to seeing who comes aboard over the next few weeks to bolster a strong freshmen class. The idea is to keep adding better talent than you already have. I do hope adding transfers remains the exception and not the rule in Austin, in all sports and in all cases not involving transition classes. I'd even love it if the vast majority of our players in all sports continue to be from within Texas, but that's an increasingly tough stance to maintain in such a competitive athletic landscape.
  11. Yep. To be around the upper end of nearly every team sport you have to keep trying to make your existing roster obsolete. Hard job for the coaches to make it all work, but bringing in better talent is the only way to become great and stay that way. Gasso continues to teach a masterclass in that.
  12. Isn't her daughter (Mia Williams) now portaling out of Florida?
  13. Should we 'shop goat horns onto the Elk or elk antlers onto the goat?
  14. They're 10 feet tall...and Mia's bulletproof.
  15. We'll see what it all means.
  16. That's when I quit thinking of a title and went to just hoping for a win that would let us still be alive the next day. Can't cut it much closer than that.
  17. There was much speculation Brown would go to ND after decommitting from USC, due to coaxing by Javian Osborne. Does Brown now coming to Texas in any way affect the Finley recruitment by us or ND? I can't imagine it lessens our interest in him. He's a stud.
  18. At least now Bobby might be forced to learned how Waxahachie really is pronounced.
  19. Plenty fast enough
  20. Hard for me to get a feel for his speed at that level of competition. And he's certainly not too highly rated. But as always, my default is to say Sark and Jackson might know a bit more about WR talent, development and fit than I do. So...welcome to Texas, son!
  21. Four rockets launched that inning, zero runs scored. Suboptimal.
  22. I know how to turn him into a .230 hitter: trade for him.
  23. That solidifies it being a mistake pitching to Kwan.
