One thing that's been bugging me a little bit, in Empire Strikes Back, there's the iconic scene where Luke is flying away from Dagobah and Obi-wan says that Luke is their last hope. Yoda replies, "No, there is another", implying Leia. I've only ever seen the prequels once, but doesn't Obi-wan know that Leia is Luke's sister? Is that just a mistake in the script?
Anyway I've been thinking way too much about SW lately since we started showing it to our kids. In retrospect, it's absolutely insane how badly Disney fumbled the sequel trilogy. This is the studio that had like a 30-movie plan for Marvel that made 75 trillion dollars, and they couldn't execute a 3-movie arc in a universe this rich? It's basically the same plot as the original trilogy. Oppressive authoritarian government led by bad guy dressed in all black fights against plucky rebels. Except this time they couldn't even keep the tone and direction straight for 3 consecutive movies. Every fucking screenwriter and director in Hollywood is probably a huge Star Wars nerd. Put out a call to submit a 3-page story arc for 3 movies and they would've gotten 20 more interesting and coherent ideas. For fucks' sake. I realize I'm not treading any new ground, here.
