  1. I know we live in a bubble in this thread and probably a lot of us in our personal lives, but man it is dispiriting to me to realize that ~50% of my fellow Americans still look at Trump after everything that’s happened and say, “yeah, that’s my guy”.
  2. I just watched The Swan, Poison, and The Rat Catcher. I’d rank those three in that order. These things are pretty much exactly what you’d expect from Wes Anderson making films based on offbeat stories by Ronald Dahl. The acting is very good, especially from Rupert Friend. The stories are pretty inscrutable.
  3. I think it's Evan Carter. He has literally never not won a World Series.
  4. Official 12 minute highlights. I like the way they mix the audio from different broadcasts. I don't think it's been said yet but seriously hat tip to Gallen. He fucking dominated us for 6 innings. Even Seager's and Garver's hits in the 7th were just grounders that found holes.
  5. His swing is a thing of beauty. No wasted motion.
  6. Big. Game. Nate. Career 2.84 FIP in 79.2 postseason innings.
  7. So appropriate that this pic includes someone dropping a 5 spot on the Rangers in the top of the 2nd. We've all sat through a bunch of long ass nights like that. They probably lost this game like 13-7.
  8. Roger Fucking Pavlik. I think that dude was actually our opening day starter for a year or two. Shout out to Roger wherever he is.
  9. Never thought I’d fucking see it. I was born into Ranger fandom. Mom just told me she worked as an usher at the very first game. Wish my dad had lived to see this. Lots of memories of Arlington Stadium and especially the Temple. Watching some bad (and occasionally pretty good) teams. Learning to crack open peanuts and keep score from my dad. Zonk banging that fucking drum. I still have a binder full of Julio Franco cards around here somewhere at my house in Houston. He was always my favorite player, with that insane batting stance and 1991 batting title. Gotta admit I momentarily lost hope at the end of the regular season and after ALCS game 5. This team never even fucking thought of giving up though. Unbelievable. Go Rangers!!!!
  10. Hotel recs? Going in March for the first time. Looking for something classy, peaceful, unique. Not afraid to spend a few bucks to impress the wife.
  11. Formatting is shit because of the way The Athletic does it
  12. Are receiving + blocking tight ends kinda unicorns at the college level? Seems like the players on our roster and ones we recruit do one or the other, but not both. Sanders's blocking is pretty poor. Shannon was recruited specifically to be a blocking surface. I assume this midget from Vegas is a pass catcher only based on frame. Maybe Helm develops into a two way guy?
  13. I never saw an announced attendance, but I'd say the east side was only about 80% full. Lots of empty seats. To be fair, it was pretty warm.
  14. After thinking about it a lot, I ended up going with Garcia. Seems fine. Apparently did a pretty good job running Metro. Also considered Kaplan and Gallegos.
  15. That's my understanding. It's somewhat like the Trump tax cut, in that there is zero long term plan to pay for it. However, unlike the federal government, Texas has to balance the budget. The lege's response to this when they were working on the bill was literally "eh, we'll figure it out later". It has to be one of these 3 options, though: The state continues to run a surplus forever and makes the decision every two years in perpetuity to send a big chunk of that money to public schools. The lege raises taxes. Public schools take a big haircut in revenues. Which one of those three do we think is most likely? It's a little blackmail-y, but I assume it's also much easier for them to send a 2nd bill rather than charge the full amount now and then issue every single homeowner a refund later.
  16. I went same as @chainsaw, except #4 and #13. Regarding #4, this is the property tax package that the lege spent basically its entire session this year working on (Patrick's plan vs Abbott's). It just needs a rubber stamp from voters. I expect it will pass with a huge margin because tax relief = good. The major point is a cut in property taxes and money from the general fund to make school districts whole. Even though it would have direct financial benefits for me (I'm a homeowner), I voted no for a variety of reasons. Number 1, there's no plan whatsoever about what to do when the state's surplus runs out and school districts are still missing a bunch of tax dollars. There's also a bunch of other random stuff in it that's questionable (elected appraisal boards, cut in franchise tax). Also, fuck the lege (and Abbott). On #13, I get the arguments in favor, but I'm kinda over super olds in elected office at this point. No more Feinsteins.
  17. Garcia seems like he’s trying to be all things to all people. I checked out his website to see what his positions are, and it’s nothing but empty rhetoric. He’s spent a ton of (his own?) money and I still don’t have a clue about him. Weird campaign. Who do you like in the first round? Today is research day for me. This is the big concern. The state is going to continue to try to push around Houston and Harris County. Whitmire’s response is that he’s buddies with all those guys, so they’ll take it easy on him/us. That strains credibility. I’m sure SJL will be more than happy to fight them tooth and nail. On the other hand, does SJL as mayor make them even more motivated to shit on us?
  18. Gilbert Garcia is spending a fuckton of money. I've gotten more mail from him than all other candidates combined. I was planning to vote SJL because a bunch of people that suck seem to really, really hate her (Mattress Mack). Then I realized that's literally why people vote for Donald Trump, so I'm back to the drawing board. Planning to early vote this week and still have no idea what I'm gonna do.
  19. This guy has all the same policy positions as Jordan, but the "moderates" will actually go along with him because he's fucking smiley or something. At least with Jordan there was pushback.
  20. Reading about this dude, they literally could have just let Matt Gaetz pick someone 5 minutes after ousting McCarthy and ended up in the same spot. Obviously Gaetz is high on the list of worst people in America, but it's hard to say he's not the most effective individual in the entire House. He got exactly what he wanted out of this deal.
  21. The schadenfreude was fun while it lasted, but tbh I was hoping we'd end up with someone better than the top insurrectionist in the entire congress.
  22. Let me get this straight: Emmer beat this guy fair and square in the conference vote Far right immediately says no way to Emmer Everyone who voted for Emmer over Johnson ("moderates" lol): "ok, that's fine" Wow, what backbone. What principles. I'm in awe of their steely resolve.
