  1. I think this staff's established strengths would be OL development, offensive playcalling and QB development. I think this is a reasonable starting foundation. Not a finished product though. Much will need to be done in other areas obviously. I think any optimism for this staff starts with these three areas. EDIT : I think I would add Special Teams as well.
  2. It seems like Banks' job is like 40% ST, 40% recruiting, 20% TE or something like that.
  3. Agree DL was probably my biggest position disappointment during the season. Davis probably has enough skins on the wall to say it's talent or some scheme issue.
  4. How do we feel about this staff as a developmental staff? Their backgrounds seem to say they can develop. Per CTJ, A&M thought this staff was good enough to go full bag game. Recruiting is super important. Yet I don't think it's been the key issue in our mediocrity. I'd like to hear more on that side of things if anyone has anything to offer. FWIW, I thought the OL improved from putrid to tolerable over the course of the year. Tope Imade's comments on Flood also give me some hope. I just feel like recruiting is super visible to everyone and it's important but not our main area of weakness.
  5. I see your point. I just think Sark's best use case NOW is in getting the offense humming and it's not there yet though it made some strides. For now, I think a Grinch-esque hire on defense to stabilize things makes the most sense. I agree as program matures that I would prefer he be more head coach and less offensive coordinator.
  6. I see a really quick release. If he can be accurate, we are good to go. We should probably expect some growing pains though.

    TEXAS QB TALK

Good Luck to Casey. Our program is better off without Charles Thompson working the media at every opportunity.
  8. I think we should expect growing pains with Ewers next year, especially early in the year. I think the OL might be marginally better. We still need more than one consistent WR to appear. Also, Bama is game No. 2 on the schedule. We should have pretty modest expectations for the QB position next year.
  9. I just know we had some of the lowest returning production in D1 football last year. Raw QBs, shaky OL, WR , etc. We weren't a fully baked cake for sure. Also, Sark was a drunk in his prior head coaching incarnations. I just think it's hard to read a lot into it except that it is a concern and it needs to improve.
  10. I agree with you ztejas. We did play poorly on the road. Maybe that is mostly on the coaches or maybe on our lack of player leadership. I guess we will find out over the next few years. But I definitely agree, it's a source of real concern. Frankly, many things were a source of concern this year. I'll add it to the list.
  11. As much I might not love CTJ's "petty" name calling, etc, I do think Sark needs to own that the defense was record bad and get it fixed. I think there are good reasons to be optimistic on offense, so I think how or if Sark fixes the defense probably determines his success here at Texas.
  12. Fair enough. This can be the post where I say thanks for a job well done on HWH then. Just really well done.
  13. I think a lot of that can be on Steve Sarkisian and it still be the right thing to do support him and this staff in Year One. I'm not talking about giving him the benefit of the doubt but also maybe not doom post about our "loser" coach and "7 win Steve". I'm guessing there is a practical middle ground between naive pollyanna and angry cynic that most fans might be lining up behind. Not trying to smear you. You did a great thing with HWH and rightfully deserve a ton of praise. Just maybe don't smear the folks that have a view that coaches and staffs are multi year bets and year one is too soon to call it.
  14. Mutations can occur in vaxxed of course HOWEVER the more the virus spreads and the longer it persists in an individual likely increases the opportunity for mutation. Thus, a vaxxed population should slow the rate of mutation down considerably but not completely. Not much about covid is black and white.
  15. I think Sark is still a solid bet to work out especially on offense. I think he succeeds or fails based on if he can get the defense working right.
  16. We need someone who can be a volume recruiter not just for RBs. Ideally, this position is one of the best recruiters on offense.
  17. I like rewarding competence on the staff with more responsibility if that's what the person wants. Gilbert seems like a reasonable choice. I'd be pretty happy with it.
  18. if we are promoting from within, Gilbert seems more ready than Harris. Now is that what Gilbert wants, who knows? He might like it where he is.
  19. Watching Bama tape, Sark liked his receivers to catch on the run and threaten deep and used RBs and TEs to pick apart underneath.
  20. James Washington from Stamford, TX. Formerly of Oklahoma State and now the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  21. I think many thought it was the best "developmental" staff on paper. Solid recruiters in Davis and Banks, the rest less proven in that respect.
  22. We might not be all that this year however, there is an exceptionally high amount of coaching turnover at high end programs and the free portal transfer is pretty new. It's just seems like there should be more opportunity than most years and we should have a decent chance to benefit from that. Also, Sark and staff did not have much time to work on the portal last year. This year they will have quite a bit of time. Might help.
  23. I work with a pretty connected LSU alum. They are seeing what coaching transitions in the portal age look like. Very concerned with the outflow of talent. I do think the potential costs of coaching transitions may be higher now, with the portal, than in the past and is another consideration in trying to tweak a staff to work versus wholesale changes. We are the beneficiary of "relative" stability this year. I think changes absolutely need to happen. Many things didn't work right this year. But I am glad we have some level of continuity this year.
