  1. Adult Pi Patel: So which story do you prefer? Writer: The one with the tiger. That's the better story. Adult Pi Patel: Thank you. And so it goes with God.
  2. Will do. My dad was a Schlitz distributor in the 60’s, 70’s and during the down fall in the early 80’s. I drank a lot of Schlitz growing up. There was always a keg on tap at my house. Glorious times.
  3. You probably are too young, but you missed out on Wahoo McDaniel, Terry Funk, Mil Mascaras and others.
  4. My experience as well and I’ve known many of them. One of our brand new young lawyers is Morman. He’s a great guy. And my late father’s best friend in the Navy was Mormon. They had a life long friendship and my father never spoke better about another person.
  5. As a life long Catholic, and still a believer, I get a kick out of this line from She’s the One: Mickey Fitzpatrick : Why are you getting so upset Dad? You don't even believe in God. Mr. Fitzpatrick : That doesn't mean I'm going to stop being a good Catholic.
  6. Yes, we are saying similar things. God’s gift of free will means, in my view, that He doesn’t have complete control over everything such that every thing that happens in the world is His will. I differ from my Evangelical brethren in this regard. And to repeat, all that said, I still pray for His intervention and for wisdom and strength in dealing with life’s struggles.
  7. Or, God gave humans free will and some humans do horrible things. Yet I still pray because I have some degree of faith. On the OP, I would never pray that someone I know do something for my benefit. I would pray that he made the best decision for him and his family. And I sure wouldn’t tell him that I’m praying for him. That’s just creepy to me.
  8. I don’t think it did. I had some back then and it wasn’t the same. Schlitz was the beer of choice in the 70’s and it was awesome—especially on draft. I can still taste it. IMO, the closest thing to that flavor is Miller High Life bottle. That’s not surprising in that they both originated in Milwaukee.
  9. Next time, Jack, write a goddamn memo.
  10. I got tired of trying to find the chirping smoke detector (at 3:00 am) among the 8 or so detectors in my various homes over the years so my Thanksgiving weekend ritual is to replace the batteries in all of them each year. I haven’t had a chirping smoke detector in about 15 years. Mine are wired too, but they all have a backup 9v battery.
  11. I hear you on operating the slide of an auto, but my wife handles the slide on her S&W 9mm Shield. Nice pistol to carry, but a small revolver would clearly be easier for her to handle.
  12. I have jury duty on Monday. In municipal court. Everyone gets a jury trial in Texas.
  13. Announcers don’t even know the spot and how much to go for a first down. They thought it was a first down anyway.
  14. Starting to look like last week’s game except we only have 14.
  15. You're all set. I told her you were stable, well-adjusted, attentive, persevering... I lied.
  16. I agree with all of this but it has a special place in my heart. It was our last stop after a night of drinking in SA before heading back to Austin at 2:00 AM. It’s a miracle I survived those days.

    Getting old sucks

Hang in there. We need you.
  18. Levon Helm deserves a mention for his narration and as the guy that helps the pilots with preflight stuff.

    Getting old sucks

Have you asked your PCP or a PT about this? I'm 61 and I work out every day during the week with cardio and weights and on the weekends I'll do a physical activity like golf (walking 18 holes), tennis, etc. I've been doing this since my middle 40's. At my annual physical my doctor will give me some tips and a lengthy handout showing various stretching and foam roller or lacrosse ball exercises to help with occasional sore joints and muscles. If I play golf several days in a row I may experience some minor back soreness, but it goes away quickly. Otherwise, I am rarely sore after working out. Maybe it's because I don't push it too hard. I'm almost 6' 2" and weigh 176 and my goals are to maintain body weight and strength and keep my heart healthy. I'm not trying to build muscle mass as if I were a younger man.
  20. Here’s a graph showing the number of US high school graduates by year. When my first daughter graduated high school in 2010 it was near a peak but it was still better for her then then it would be now. She easily got into Georgia and finally got into UT on an appeal. The numbers show that it levelled off for a bit and then increased dramatically. It’s supposed to peak in 2025 and then go down. It that happens it could present some good opportunities for students at what I call middle tier universities. Those schools will have to compete harder for good students. The top schools will always get their pick of the litter.
  21. I hope they bring Norm back. “It’s a dog eat-dog-world, Sammy, and I’m wearing Milk Bone underwear!”
