  1. I just got a message that Operation BBQ Relief is coming to town and looking for local volunteers all week. I volunteered with them in Houston after Harvey and they do good work. You can sign up online.
  2. All Richardson ISD schools closed for Monday.
  3. Where in Richardson? I'm in Richardson Heights. Neighbors have a transformer on fire but the fire department can't get to it yet. Huge oak trees down here, looks as bad as that July storm.
  4. Who knew... https://www.aquaticsintl.com/facilities/management-operators/when-lightning-strikes_o
  5. I rewatched 3 on Saturday and took the kids to 4 on Sunday. I don't think 4 was as good. Part of it may be that 3 was fairly intense and emotional, 4 had to come down a bit. It wasn't realistic to sustain that intensity into another movie, but 4 felt a little surface level as a result. The story was also kind of similar. In 3 and 4 there are toys that are ready to move on and Woody's trying to bring them back into the fold.
  6. On Thursday my wife tried to mow our backyard ( A for effort). She got halfway through and said the mower stopped. As a fix, she added oil to it. "Why?" I asked. "I dunno." She still couldn't start it. Fast forward to today (Saturday). I pull the mower out and check the oil. It's several inches above the fill line. I show her. Her: Oh, I get it. Sorry. By the way, that small red jug next to the big gas tank is the oil that's supposed to go in the mower, right? Me: That's the gas for the leaf blower...FML. Her: Well, maybe you should label it. Me (showing the small red gas tank to my 8 year old daughter: What's that say, sweetie? Daughter: gas-o-line
  7. You're going to feel pretty stupid when that zombie hiding in your backyard takes you out. That dog knows what's up.
  8. Mayor is speaking out. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/phoenix-breaking/2019/06/15/phoenix-mayor-issues-statement-viral-video-police-officers-point-gun-yell-threats-dravon-ames-family/1469624001/
  9. 13 years yesterday. But I had to get rid of my futon. We eventually replaced it with an Ikea pullout couch that we keep a mattress topper for. So...I win?
  10. Double post
  11. Spoke too soon...power just went out here again. It was a nice couple hours.
  12. You can find futons with inner springs that are pretty comfy. If you keep a mattress topper stored away for guests, it works well.
  13. Power came back a couple hours ago. Everything in the freezer is still good. Funny thing about the generator comments...I ran into a neighbor at dinner tonight. He was joking about how he bought a generator 6 years ago after the ice-pocalypse in Dallas. This was the first time he's gotten to use it. I don't think it's something I can justify keeping around.
  14. Still no power here in Richardson. Oncor can't give an estimate on power restoration at this time, so we're just crossing our fingers. I only opened my freezer once to stick a probe thermometer in and it's still under 30F after 30 hours offline. Hopefully things come back online before we have to start emptying it.
  15. Dallas Tree Surgeons have given good advice in the past.
  16. North Dallas was crazy this afternoon. I was on the road and had to stop because I couldn't see past my own bumper. I've been through a tornado and this was the strongest storm I've ever send besides that. Diving around Belt Line, Arapaho and Campbell afterwards there are trees down everywhere, lots of spots where trees are blocking 2 or 3 lanes on those major roads. My parents reported asphalt buckling on Arapaho. Lots of fences down, car ports trashed, at least one garage I saw lost a roof and another had it's garage door blown in. Fretz Park Library had it's windows blown in. It's supposed to be another 24 hours or so before we get power back. Thankfully, I have family staying with me!
  17. One other trick...if you're painting where the wall meets the ceiling, you can tape like you normally would but first paint along the tape with the CEILING color. After that dries you can paint the wall. That wall the ceiling color bleeds through onto the ceiling, but the wall color doesn't. Of course this only works if you have both colors on hand.
  18. I'm also looking to sell some gear. Does anyone know a good site (besides Craigslist) to sell homebrew stuff in DFW?
  19. Just found this thread...here's the coop I built about 5 years ago. And a shot of our 3 new chicks in the brooder. There's an Orpington, a Rhode Island Red and a Barnevelder in there that will join our Easter Eggers soon. We've probably had 10 or 12 birds over the years, but my 2 Easter Eggers have been with us all 5 years. Still solid layers too. That food bucket in the first pic has a neck added on the side. Probably the best thing I ever did. Pretty much eliminated all food waste. Highly recommend.
  20. You know, thinking it over, the way Cersei executed Missandei made no sense. There's no way Cersei expected Dany to surrender because she threatened one servant. Cersei's real motivation would have been to provoke an attack from the Unsullied and make Dany look like a ruthless conqueror. It would have felt much truer to have Qyburn torture the shit out of Missandei on that wall, just slowly spill her guts while she screamed in agony. They could really drag it out until Grey Worm can't take it and charges the wall solo, taking arrows from the archers. Then as he's going down, he hurls a spear to put Missandei out of her misery, only to have The Mountain step forward to snatch it out of the air. Grey Worm dies in front of the gates listening to Missandei scream. That shit would have created some tension for next week.
  21. That's so odd to me. Did your family eat cheese while you were growing up? What about milk, yogurt and sour cream?
  22. Did anyone else notice Sansa's speech down in the crypt about "the most heroic thing we can do now" is get out of the way? Wonder if that's foreshadowing that she'll cede The North to Dany (or someone) because she realizes she shouldn't be a military leader.
  23. I appreciate that you claim this as your opinion, but I don't think your opinion aligns with federal law. The law is that someone may be granted asylum because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion. If someone is in Honduras and government has broken down to the point that gangs run cities and states and these gangs threaten anyone who refused an "invitation" to join or who advocates for government control, I think it would clearly meet the definition. Isn't ISIS just a really well organized gang that has toppled local governments? How do you distinguish between a gang that is capable of persecution and one that is not?
  24. Sorry, but this just isn't true. Do you not remember the Dems coming back over and over to try and get a deal on DACA? That was a good faith effort on their part. And it was torpedoed by Trump.
  25. I think the better approach would be to text people and ask them to call in and take a poll.
