  1. No one ever is to blame.
  2. Finally had a pipe burst. Almost made it through unscathed. It was the weakest link in the house and I knew it would be the problem. This house was built in the early 80s and the guy who bought it lived in it until 2014 when my gf bought it. He did a lot of work on the house and most things were done exceptionally well. The exception was he decided to build an outdoor shower for use after yard work. The shower was built where the hose spigot was originally built to come out of the wall, so to re-route the spigot to the outside of the shower he just added about 6 feet of exposed copper. I quadruple wrapped the spigots and double wrapped the copper pipes and stacked mulch bags in front of all if the pipes. It lasted 5 days but couldn’t make it the final 12 hours. The break is right on an elbow joint. Buddy has a 4WD and is going to Lowe’s to get a cap. We’ll cut it off at the break and sweat a cap onto it and that will be fine to get the house water back on. We’ll get a plumber out next month to make the permanent fix.
  3. Those poor folks staying at the Driskill. I hope they are able to eat. T&Ps.
  4. Don’t forget to change your password also.
  5. He was BORN for this. Jumpin' Jimmy is living his best life right now.
  6. Gravity really does most of the work.
  7. I wish I was making it up. I really, really wish I was.
  8. This is probably more info for another well known thread. I’ve had the heat set on 73 all day to help keep the pipes warm. Earlier the lady decided to clean her sons room while he is at his dads house. I helped her pull the bedding and start washing it and went about my business. Two hours goes by and I am noticing it get cooler and cooler very rapidly. So I bump the thermostat to 75. Still getting cooler. A few minutes ago the last of the bedding from the boys bed is dry so I go to take it into the room. Open the door and it is COLD. The window is OPEN! ”I just wanted to let some fresh air in”
  9. I live in the Lakewood portion of 78750. Our power was out from 11:28 PM until 1:15 today. This seems like an opportune moment to remind people that the Austin City Council still absconds $110 a year from Austin Energy to pay for General Fund items like Economic Development incentives (for companies to move to the absolute hottest city in the nation for companies to move to) and to fund things like Festivals and other pet Projects of their choosing. Maybe that $110M a year would help my neighborhood NOT lose fucking power every time a drop of rain falls, or heaven forbid it gets cold. During the snow a few weeks ago we were out for 9 hours. I don't think it can be overstated how much every member of the Austin City Council can go fuck their own faces. Edit for truthfulness: It is "only" $110M per year.
  10. I normally make my chicken and dumplings from scratch but didn't have the time or inclination tonight and I have a freezer full of stock I made last month so I knew it would come out pretty good either way. I have also made C&D in the past with roasted hatch peppers mixed in and it was good. I didn't have any today but I did spot a jar of Herdez Salsa Verde in the cabinet so I figured why the fuck not? Came out amazing and took less than an hour. The lady is still raving about it so I told her I'd type out the recipe before I forgot it so I could make it the same next time. Then I remembered this thread and thought I'd share. Mexican Chicken and Dumplings Soup 1 fully cooked rotisserie chicken picked off the bone 1.5 qts chicken stock 1 jar Herdez Green tomatillo salsa 4 Tbsp butter 6 cloves garlic minced 1 large onion diced 5 stalks celery diced 3 carrots diced 1 jalapeno diced 3 Tbsp fresh thyme 2 Tbsp cumin Salt, black pepper and white pepper to taste ½ cup heavy cream Dumplings 2.5 cups flour 1 Tbsp Baking powder 1 Tbsp salt 1 ¼ cups Half and half ¼ cup water Directions Melt butter and sautee all vegetable until soft (about 15 minutes). Add stock, salsa and thyme and bring to a rolling boil for 5 minutes. Lower heat to medium and add chicken and let simmer for 10 minutes. While that is happening, mix the dumpling mix. Bring heat back up to a medium boil. Drop heaping tablespoons of dumpling mix into the pot. Stir in between drops to keep them from sticking together. Once all dumplings are in the pot, put the lid on and simmer for 10-12 minutes until dumplings are done. Remove from heat and wait five minutes. Add in heavy cream and stir well. Serve
  11. Think of how many bike lanes could have been created...... J/K...they will still create those as well. They don't give a fuck about taxpayer money. Next thing you will see is a $10M contract to some private company to do the job.
  12. soda names talk not going away
  13. Just started pouring near 2222/360. The event at 620/45 is 26 vehicles with 5 patients so far.
  14. Why do you hate more localized voices? Because they may "assert power" over the council in ways you disapprove of? Like they won't vote in way you want them to?
  15. Look, fuckhead...you know damn well that even the members that voted no all agreed that having more representation is better. The reason they voted no is because they didn't want to have to win 60% or 64% to pass something. It was 100% self serving. * If this prop fails and strong mayor fails, there is no change. * If this prop fails the vote and strong mayor passes, you still have no change, still have an uneven number and need only a simple majority. * If this vote passes and strong mayor passes, it doesn't matter if you have an uneven number because the mayor would have veto power anyway. * If this prop passes the vote and the strong mayor fails then you have an even number and need to win with a 7-5. So they just didn't want to end up in a position where they had to win 7-5 to get their way. So yeah...that makes sense to me and is logical. It's only not logical to you because you have your head so far up Adler's ass you only want exactly what he wants.
  16. Eat dick. The fuckup belongs to the entire Council, not just the people that voted yes. Obviously none of them understood what they were voting on or they would have fixed it or shelved it before the vote. Don't try to blame it only on the people that didn't like your opinion of it.
  17. And why did the camping ban language only specifically include areas downtown and around UT? I don't want that shit up where I live the same as those fucks don't want it right outside City Hall.
  18. So she and a few other Council Members voted against your wishes again and it's a huge problem? Got it. Maybe you should just tell them to vote exactly the way you want them to to each time? You know, to make things easier.
  19. I live way down in the Bull Creek basin. Temps at our house are usually 3-7 degrees cooler than what is being reported for Austin. It looks like we will likely dip below freezing at 10 PM on Saturday and stay below until 10 AM on Tuesday. We're gonna need a shitload of bourbon.
  20. I wonder how that "Total Institutional Debt" of $1.5B compares to the rest of the country? Not only do they lie about having the largest endowment, it also kinda looks like they are further in debt than most other schools in the country.
  21. NWS finally came around for Austin. Projected low for Saturday night is onw 20 degrees. Seems like the models are starting to agree.
  22. There is a new overpass going over 35 in Georgetown as we speak. It will connect FM971 across the freeway to Northwest Blvd, about 3/4 mile north of Williams Dr. That project will be done in probably a year or less?? Once complete, as mentioned, the construction on the Williams Dr overpass will commence to create the diverging diamond. There is a massive upgrade on RM2243 (Leander Rd) joining Leander and Georgetown. Elevated, limited access, flyovers, etc. It will be basically like 183 or 290. I'd guess it's probably less than 6 years away from beginning construction. I agree with something said earlier that the City does typically plan better than most, but I also agree that Georgetown is probably about to be a shitshow for traffic. Too little, too late in place that is growing so fast. It has basically tripled in size in 15 years.
  23. I can't speak to the future, but the elderly population has continued to rise in Georgetown. There are far more 55+ communities here than just the well known, Sun City. Granted, for the past few years, the growth in elderly living units has been primarily in Assisted Living and retirement homes as opposed to subdivisions full of single family homes/garden homes. I can also say that no one is moving to Georgetown for affordability. It's not cheap to live in Georgetown compared to the surrounding wilco cities. With that said, there has been an explosion of growth in the SE quadrant of the city in homes that are much cheaper than the homes being built on the west side oft he highway. The down side on that area is that it is basically indistinguishable from RR and Pflugerville. Georgetown has gotten much better about restaurants and entertainment, but it is still very lacking.
  24. I assume it is just a battle models, but my weekend forecast from the NWS is about 15-20 degrees warmer Wed-Sun that my forecast from Wundeground. For instance; the Saturday night low on NWS is 40. The same night, WG shows a low of 18. This is for 78750 in NW Austin.
