  1. If you can find someone around Austin to do it for $50/ft please post their info.
  2. For reference, 4 years ago I payed 6500 for a used hoist. It is rated to some absurd weight but the boat weight is around 6k lbs or so. I did install it myself with the help of our dock guy who is a close friend. So maybe 8k you can get one done today I would bet.
  3. I keep our 30' sailboat on a lift and would never keep anything in the water. The cost alone for a bottom job just ain't worth not keeping her out of the water. I have to paint the tip of the keel every few years. Just the tip...
  4. I am doing two IBC totes under the roof to collect and use the water weight to keep the roof from blowing away. We are up on the top of a hill and it is solid bedrock after a few inches of soil. No way to bury posts. Love that setup you got.
  5. I hired a guy to clear cedars last summer. Just gave him an area and said to clear as many as possible. The aftermath is some habitat for some creatures in some cedar piles and we had a small spring fire up for a short time in a draw below the clearing. My plan is to clear 30-40% of the cedar on the ranch. I can easily kill the small ones but may need to get a saw implement to clear faster. Cedars suck.
  6. I hate poisonous snakes. Much deadlier than venomous.
  7. SNL had this pegged 2 decades ago.
  8. PM me if you ever want to go out on Travis. I have access to two private ramps and some beach areas you can launch from. I would help a fellow sailor out. No stinkpots though.
  9. In mills county? On 70 acres or so if I remember correctly? Anyone notices and they are gonna get shot for trespassing.
  10. My kids favorite thing to do is get the blacklight flashlights out and go hunting at the ranch. The youngest killed 30 last friday night. Then he went out the next night and killed another 25 or so. There were probably twice that which got away due to being in a wood pile or rock pile. Fuckers are everywhere. One of those stupid field mice hitched back in my truck as well.
  11. I know exactly where they live and I already looked into buying the houses next to them. Neither will sell. I didnt tell them why but I do know one of the people sued the STR owner once so there is already no love lost there.
  12. So this is the best part, I got fucking cucked into going in on a fence with the owner because I thought it would help me not deal with these fuckers. Hindsight is 20-20. I had a chain link, I should have left it so I could fuck with these people more effectively. I have a new angle that involves building a fence along the front yard to the ROW. This dudes driveway is extra narrow and they can use the whole width now plus some. I am building an 8' fence right on the property line. I am taking suggestions but I think bright pink is in order.
  13. Yeah I dont really care about my homes value so long as the tax man thinks it is low. The house is paid off and I will never sell this location. I was looking for a legal angle to get rid of this shit. I am on day 7 of chaos and we have dealt with it as we could to moderate results. As to the song you owe me a left eardrum, the warning wasn't enough.
  14. I vote a cantilever deck. You have 8x8s to mount the supports to. Go big or go home! Looks great!
  15. I think you should. I will contribute as well. I have plans to build a multi platform tree house in a grove of oaks for my boys and it will double as a great bow stand as the deer walk right through the area I am building it. I started it before it got hot then the idea of a cook shack came into play so that is what I have been doing now. I need to take a shitload of pictures and start posting as I go on things. People here will have some constructive criticism I would bet.
  16. Maybe I am not understanding but you essentially want to fill a trough to keep water going on the property right? Instead of mechanical why not rig up a passive system that will only need to be filled by you every few months? I have setups with 200 gallon cattle troughs and float valves. Then I rigged up 2-250 gallon ibc totes and then a shed roof on top with rainwater collection. I actually havent installed the roof on them yet but have all materials sitting and waiting for me to complete. The tanks last 3 months during summer even with pigs knocking water out. I would rather rely on passive systems than anything electronic when you are there on odd weekends... Edit: maybe I am misunderstanding, you want to pump water out of a tank to somewhere else? If so, the answer was posted, but I wonder why you wouldn't just fill it yourself and then improve the tank some for additional volume. For the cost of the solar pump and install it may be a wash with slightly more effort but more positive impact. Either way, post pics.
  17. I just caught a mouse in my truck. How the fuck it got there I will never know but those electric traps work wonders. Throw one out and see what you catch.
  18. I wonder if the 3.5 has gotten better mpg since I had one. I got 12-14 regularly but I had max tow gears and 6.5' bed. It was a beast of a truck and fun as hell to drive hard.
  19. I wouldn't tow 3k behind a Tacoma. That isn't even a decision there. If you insist on Toyota, get the tundra and move on.
  20. Whatever you do go 1 step more than your gut tells you, but I would have zero issue buying a 150 or equivalent for that setup personally. I am the dumbass who bought a 250 gasser because I was right in the middle of 150 and 250 diesel for my needs. I am happy with my choices but it is not the best for everyone. I would likely eat the extra 10k if I knew what I knew now regarding work and other positive life changes but when I bought I was worried and got what I needed. It is a slippery slope setting the bar at 70k for a truck when you know the wife is eyeing vehicles..
  21. How heavy are we talking here? What are you thinking of towing length wise.
  22. The Ford issue with timing chain is purely scary sounding. Once the oil pressure builds up the phasers tension the chain and it is fine. From what I have seen it isn't a widespread issue of the chain's breaking, just an uncomfortable sound on startup. My old truck did it for close to 50k miles and I never had any issue other than that with the motor. I would much rather have that noise than a failed transmission in a chevy. I have only owned 1 chevy my entire life and that is the only vehicle to have a transmission failure. Same failure happened to my brother and a close friend around the same mileage on thier chevys. Glad to hear they still havent figured out how to build a tranny 20 years later.
  23. Do you have a walk in cooler to hang it in? If not, for a nominal fee of some Axis back strap, I would be more that willing to store it for a few days for you.
