  1. Nancy Mace has a flat ass. Greg Abbott has a paralyzed penis. To get to the other side.
  2. Bergers and sausages. This page is making me hungry.
  3. Cottage cheese is an excellent lean protein source. But, it has a surprisingly high amount of sodium.
  4. 50g is indeed a lot, and I don't think I come close. I've read 30 is good for men in their 50s, and I often consume at least that in a day. I've said before on this or other threads, but I credit my increased fiber intake with a significant drop in cholesterol.
  5. So a recent food intake I've tried this week is overnight oats. I know that's been a thing for a while, but I want to do better about good complex low-glycemic carbs, as I sometimes overcorrect in response to the "carbs are bad!" line of thinking. The overnight oats are a pretty good way to start a day with a strong combination of protein, good carbs, and fiber, with very low sugar. Here's my recipe: 1/2 cup whole oats (not the instant variety), 1/2 tablespoon chia seeds, 1 scoop vanilla whey powder (20g or so), 3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla coconut milk (you can also use almond milk), dash of cinnamon, 1-1.5 tsp vanilla extract. Mix, store in a covered container overnight, and the next morning add some blueberries. I eat this first thing when I get to the office after an early morning working, and I'm good until lunch.
  6. I know it's Kool-Aid season, but I fucking love the reports on the defensive line. For the last couple years we've entered a new season with uncertainly about replacing departing talent on the defensive line, only to see replacements step up and continue the high-performance of that unit. It says a lot about this staff's talent acquisition and development.
  7. To be clear, that study used that specific protein intake as a control across three different body weight measurements to determine which was the preferred measurement for any clinically noticeable differences. It did not determine that the particular protein measurement used is an across-the-board-recommendation, or even a recommendation for particular demographic. Daily protein intake is widely variable depending on a variety of factors, including who-knows-what-the-fuck-works-for-me. The prevailing wisdom over the past decade or so is that people don’t consume as much protein daily as they should, particularly as they reach 50. Unless you’re in the rare stratosphere of an elite bodybuilder, don’t stress about a ridged daily protein intake simply based on your body weight. What works for me might be too little or too much for you. @troph, you’re fine aiming for the low 100g-/day as you start really focusing on progress. Adjust that as you see results, i.e., more or less muscle mass, definition, overall weight. And try to focus as much as you can on whole food sources of lean protein. The supplements are helpful, especially if you lift regularly and for whatever reason have trouble increasing your protein intake through whole food. But they add a significant amount of calories that have to go somewhere. And as Cap33 mentioned, fiber is your friend. I think fiber intake is just as important as protein as we age, and doesn’t seem to be getting as much needed press. A small percentage of the population needs anywhere close to this amount of protein per day. I image Herbie is that guy who walks into a gym and causes the rest of us to say under our breath, “Holy shit.” Herbie, what’s your overall daily caloric intake?
  8. If Tech is now playing in a world where its donors can throw down huge sums of money to compete in the college football arms race, they need to strongly consider tossing some of that money at a coach better than Joey fucking Maguire. #statingtheobvious
  9. Just to clarify, it’s not like anyone intelligent is saying “natty” or bust.
  10. I think you may have stumbled upon a genius new branding and marketing campaign for Chuy's.
  11. Yeah, the track records of football players after Achilles injuries is much less favorable than for ACL injuries. Steve Smith had a decent year after recovering from an Achilles injury, but that's the exception.
  12. It's not racist at all. In fact, I have a lot of Chinese friends. One of them will put pee pee in your Coke.
  13. Along those lines, over the past few years, I've noticed that this is me and Asian food. I used to eat a moderate to heavy portion of an Asian dinner no problem. But nowadays, I usually feel like shit when I do, even when it's higher quality and not the cheaper MSG-loaded variety. I can still throw down a thick greasy burger and be fine. But ordering Asian food these days, while still very pleasing to my palate, will usually make me feel like shit. Or maybe this is just a phase.
  14. How early do I need to throw some beach towels on chairs to call dibs for a table?
  15. I always though the green chili chicken stew at Chuy's kicked ass. But they took that off the menu right around the time they started sucking.
  16. Well, she was an actual nurse for a few years when I was real young, so do with that what you will.
  17. And don't forget Halloween sluts, which are acceptable and outstanding.
  18. Look, I'm perfectly fine if private accounts from MAGA media, interest groups, or individuals keep pumping out unfunny shit like this. But motherfucking Christ, we've gotten to a point in our government that normalizes public agencies and officials doing this shit??? We continue to circle the societal drain.
  19. Of course it did. Vance tried to cover it up once it leaked that he was serving spaghetti with chili and beans.
  20. At 50, I've evolved into this type of fan. I've never cried after a Texas loss, or after any kind of sporting victory or failure. (An exception is after my daughter's senior year basketball team lost in the second round of the playoffs, which was the end of her high school basketball career. I went home after the game, popped open a beer, and cried like a bitch.) I used to let a Texas loss ruin my weekend, and the height of this was the 2008 loss to Tech. I was a fucking miserable little shit for a few days after that, and maybe that irrational emotional reaction is what kicked me out of that level of fandom. For the most part since then, after a Texas loss, yeah I'm bummed, but I quickly shake it off and enjoy the rest of my Saturday with family or friends, or on the rare Saturday evening when I have time for just myself, I'll enjoy whatever is on the college slate that evening. And that's not only during the shitty years from Fuck-You-Pay-Me up to the Horns' recent success under Sark. Even after the Sark Horns' losses to OU, Washington, Georgia, and Ohio State, I've shrugged it off pretty quickly. And I used to watch the shit out of old games, or after a Texas win re-watch the game that Saturday evening or following Sunday. Now, maybe I'll watch a 10-minute highlight reel on Youtube after a win, or every once in a while go down the rabbit hole of past highlights. But the time I spend re-watching Texas games has significantly diminished.
  21. This is one of oddest and most outstanding things I've read on Surly in a while.
  22. Chuy's is already there, and it started its nosedive before the pandemic. But the only thing propping it up is its national chain portfolio acquisition that keeps pumping out outposts in places like Oklahoma, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Kentucky, where diners will go to a place affectionately known as "Chuy's" that offers "Tex-Mex" with its origins in Austin, Texas, so it must be good. And that's because people are dumb with inoperable tastebuds.
