  1. The Democrats will give up a game-winning walk-off homer in the bottom of the 9th.
  2. True. But as a kid they all seemed the same to me, like real life G.I. Joe action figures. Part of being young, I guess.
  3. Anybody else watching this? I'm only an episode in. It's "meh" to my wife, but more interesting to me since my dad served in the Marines for 27 years (Vietnam at the beginning of his career and the Persian Gulf war toward the end) and I grew up on Marine Corps bases (Lejeune High Class of 1992). I'm a little amused at the range of characters featured, mostly because they all seem like kids to me at my age, even some of the junior officers. A few have a very level-headed approach to combat -- they work their ass off to be ready for war at a moment's notice, but pray it never comes to that. But some of the young enlisted men are like Francis straight out of stripes, borderline psychotic -- "All I know is I finally get to kill somebody."
  4. Was persuaded to watch Casablanca in my early 20s by a girl I had started dating and whose pants I wanted to get into. I was pretty bored during the whole movie, but pretended to like it. We dry humped for a long time after that, and I drove home with the bluest of balls. #csb
  5. Dad wants ambrosia, so I guess we gotta get those miniature marshmallows.
  6. Really great marketing for the LSU coaching search.
  7. At this point, every significant media outlet should just set aside $25 million to pay Donald Trump for some reason or another.
  8. Oh, is he dead, Jim?
  9. I loved Inside the NFL as a kid. Back in the 1980s before the rise of ESPN, it was the only real source for quality highlights of all of these prior week's games. Harry Kalas's narration was legendary.
  10. Tyson King ain't running on that field Saturday.
  11. It doesn't undo any federal conviction, and I don't know that any such conviction was ever a real threat. And the fucker is still permanently disbarred by the D.C. and New York state bars, and the pardon can't touch those sanctions.
  12. DOGE . . . something, something . . . waste, fraud, and abuse . . . something, something . . . .
  13. That's the big question I have have: Most people who take melatonin long-term suffer from insomnia or other poor sleep issues, and poor sleep has by itself been linked to heart issues (as well as dementia). My wife has had trouble sleeping most of her adult life since she had kids, and perimenopause has cranked that up to 11. She's worried that several years of that will increase her risk of dementia-related problems when she gets older.
  14. I’m not sure which asshole I’m rooting for.
  15. Mike Johnson: “We were going to do that anyway.”
  16. It helped the Indians win the pennant.
  17. Fucking A, that looks awesome.
  18. Catching up since I was not on night shift. What's the play for the Dems? Cave on the shutdown, but once Congress re-opens move to extend ACA subsidies, scream "We told you so!!!" when the Republicans do nothing, and hope the pain of increased health care for so many in the red states carries over to the 2026 midterms?
  19. Sleep is a huge issue for longevity, both quality and quantity. I've always been a light sleeper, and often have stress from work or other parts of my life creep into my brain in the middle of the night and keep me up for stretches. Maintaining an exercise routine and not drinking during the week have helped a lot with sleep over the past 10+ years, but I also take melatonin most nights, at a lower 3mg dose. Anybody else take this? Now there are reports of a study linking long-term melatonin use with increased risk in heart failure. https://www.sciencealert.com/common-supplement-shows-concerning-link-to-heart-failure The article notes some limitations in the study, which has yet to be peer reviewed, but the correlation is pretty significant, and it's getting a lot of press.
