  1. Austin isn't known for proactively developing infrastructure (especially transportation) to prepare for growth. We like to build splashy big projects and then act surprised when it's a clusterfuck.
  2. They'll probably fuck up the fishing and natural-use purposes. When I go to a lake, I'm not looking for the got dang Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
  3. I'm flashing back to some games where we got completely gashed by mobile quarterbacks (that nobody considered to be mobile quarterbacks until they played us).
  4. So are the Redskins just basically throwing Colt out there to be a sacrificial lamb and/or scapegoat?
  5. Got damn right:
  6. Probably already posted, but fuck that toilet paper ad with the animated bear singing about how clean their fucking hiney is.
  7. Too bad these guys are in retirement: because I'd pay money to watch someone fuck up these goon(s) who are doing this to you
  8. I watched the whole thing, It was like watching a very pretty painting. A couple of times I had to verify that I hadn't accidentally paused the video.
  9. Slight derail, but what other city or cities in the USA could be considered most comparable to Austin circa 1990 (or even 2000)? As in, big enough to have some interesting shit to do, but not so big that it's choked with congestion or expensive to live in? Oh, and reasonable climate.
  10. Dear Exclosive University: I am a graduting Senior at ___ High School. I maintained a strong 2.9 GPA while partcipating in many athletic and service activities. I was active in the A/V club, the Key Club, and was treasurer of the school 4H chapter until it closed due to an accounting oversight. You should admitt me to your university because my combination of academic and social skills would be a valuable edition to the student body. Please do not judge me sollee on my SAT score because I am not good at taking tests and that morning I had the shits real bad because of a bad breakfast taco. My personal interests and hobbys include civl war re-enactmints and watching Bering Sea Gold and Ax Men. If you select me to attend your university I will be the fist member of my family to attend college, besides my Aunt Becky who takes classes from the University of Phoenix. Thank you for your support, Name Here
  11. Chain hotels can vary so much location-to-location, but I stayed at a Hampton recently that was spotlessly clean, and the service was really good. Also, the suite pricing was not much higher than a standard room. On the down side, the Hampton breakfast was less than impressive (but adequate if you just want a bowl of cereal or a banana)
  12. From later in that twitter thread:
  13. I heard that term a lot for Dobie.
  14. Salvatore “Sal” Cincinelli -- I'm not making any accusations but it's hard to imagine that any person with this name isn't mobbed up.
  15. Oh god this. I hate this.
  16. When TV shows begin with a brief teaser clip of some dramatic event, and then flash back to "Three Days Ago..." or whatever to fill in the backstory to explain how things developed. Pulp Fiction was 25 years ago; being gratuitously non-linear isn't all that clever anymore.
  17. Plans to build a diverging diamond interchange at I-35 & Parrmer Ln. Construction expected to take two years. Gonna suck for me, I have to use this intersection every day. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/divergent-diamond-traffic-project-coming-to-hectic-north-austin-intersection/
  18. Thanks for all the replies. This was a shady deal and my cousin doesn't seem to want to fight it (and may have no recourse). Basically a neighbor suggested they split the cost of replacing the fence between their properties. This was agreed to with no paperwork or estimate. The neighbor hired some guy (not a professional) to do it. After work is done, neighbor presents a receipt for $3000 and asks to be reimbursed for half, which she paid. I strongly suspect neighbor is in cahoots with the guy he hired to build the fence.
  19. Walking around at lunchtime today, the air temperature didn't seem too bad, but the sun itself felt like it was turned up to 11.
  20. As a child of the 80s, my SAT score was less than that and UT was like yeah come on in and here's a pile of free monies so I'm practically making a profit by going to school here
  21. Of all the countless actors I've seen play a psychopath who rips a teenage girl (or young woman) in half by using them as a human tractor-trailer hitch, his performance was head and shoulders above the rest. (But seriously, anytime you saw his name in the credits of something, you knew it was going to deliver.)
  22. I remember being kind of put out when the Varsity theater was shut down to become Tower. But then it turned out Tower was OK.
  23. It wasn't exactly my favorite place to eat, but damn. There's hardly anything left around campus that I recognize. I wish I had taken a lot of photos of the drag & campus when I was a student, but it was well before cell phones had cameras. Hell it was almost before cell phones, except for the "brick" style.
  24. Raise you both with A Clockwork Orange.
