  1. I don't think you understand the definition of "upside". Upside does not equal "sure thing". Far from it. If Jimbo has a 1% chance of reaching a national championship game in 2 years, and his replacement has a 1.5% chance, then by definition, that replacement has more upside.
  2. I used the word "upside" for a reason. I'm not saying it's likely either would out-perform Jimbo. But I would give literally anyone qualified to obtain the A&M coaching job better odds of a top 5 finish in 2025 or 2026 compared to Jimbo simply because after back-to-back disappointing seasons in years 5 and 6 he had lost all momentum, didn't have player buy in and his roster was about to become even worse. Everyone was predicting another mass portal exodus this year and his roster management has proven to be absolute shit before that even while signing top classes. Again, I don't think it's "likely" either Elko or Traylor has A&M making a deep playoff run in the near term. But it's more likely than if Jimbo were coaching. So yes, I think more upside. I would have been absolutely thrilled with 2 more seasons of Jimbo instead of competing against a new name and renewed booster enthusiasm (portal $$). I don't know how those idiots can afford it, and I certainly don't think it's going to win a risk/reward analysis with the $$ we're talking about, but making the change now did increase their odds of near term success at least some amount no matter who they hire. Would obviously be happy to see a roster exodus and portal flop prove me wrong.
  3. I'm not going to take the position that Elko doesn't have more upside than Jimbo. Because at this point in his tenure and lack of momentum, just about anyone that takes that job probably has more upside. But I think they let it play out 2 more years if not for Texas winning + moving to the SEC. Not only would it save $15MM+, but punting an up front $19MM payment 2 years down the road has a lot of value in the current interest rate environment
  4. Someone let me know if I'm missing a game but I looked at week by week ratings out of curiosity and I think there has only been 1 Big 12 matchup the entire season that did not include Texas or OU and broke 1.5MM viewers. Oklahoma St. v Kansas St. Do you know what was unique about that game? It was a Friday night with absolutely zero sports competition. The NHL hadn't started, NBA hadn't started, obviously no NFL other meaningful NCAAF games, and it was a night off for MLB playoffs (all 4 divisional series started Saturday).
  5. It certainly gives them a better chance of winning that Jimbo. But it also certainly doesn't scream title contender overnight. They were in a shitty situation but it will never cease to amaze me they blew $80MM+ because Texas is 9-1 (with a W @Bama) and joining the SEC next year. There is zero chance if either of those weren't true they make this move.
  6. He probably forgot about the pass behind the LOS to Brooks that went for 80 yards last week. I guess Sark should just call the plays behind the LOS that went for big gains and not the others.
  7. It's not going to surprise me at all if announced Sunday after Thanksgiving (or that Saturday night) and it comes out later that the deal was cut last week.
  8. I'm going to be pretty shocked if it's not Elko. Just too obvious given he was just there a few years ago. It's a hire Billy and the rest of the Ag media can sell (much moreso than Traylor). He would likely be able to keep most of the defensive talent/recruits. The question would obviously be offense. I don't know much about the current Duke OC (Kevin Johns) but he doesn't have a resume that jumps off the page. Getting a home run OC hire is what would be tough as not many names that really jump out at you (that likely aren't in the market for one of the smaller jobs that opens up).
  9. This. He would by great in our offense.

If you are negative because we 'might be disappointed with a first round playoff performance' your expectations are ridiculous. Nothing about this teams screams should be playing for a national championship. We have way more holes on this roster than those that should have that level of expectations.
  11. Yep. I assume A&M $$$ in play for the portal just went up considerably compared to if Jimbo were getting another year. They aren't bringing in a new coach (and a new coach isn't taking a job) without some assurances they are ready to put money to work. We're going to need our donors/one fund contributors to step up.
  12. As stated above, that was a pretty balanced game with bad calls and subjective calls that went both ways. I 100% agree that the fuckery was getting to be under too much of a microscope after the lack of calls we've seen all season and the horrible no call on DPI in Bedlam. We'll see if that continues though.
  13. To me this game is on the defense. I haven't seen a lot of Iowa State football but certainly haven't seen much I would consider "dynamic" on offense. They don't have top end talent like Breece Hall or Xavier Hutchison. This is a game where the defense should dominate. But obviously against OU (which had more offensive talent) but also 2nd half against both UH and TCU our defense was absolute garbage. Our secondary can't cover and safeties take terrible angles, LB's get lost, DE's do nothing and backup DT's get pushed around. This is a game we need our defense to step up.

I mean I think we're saying the same thing when I noted pretty much everyone that interacted with him hated him.

I'm not talking about the players dude. I'm talking about everyone other than the player. Pretty much every player group in the history of football blames the coaches if the team isn't successful, if they personally aren't successful, if they don't think they are playing enough, etc. etc. It's never their fault. Maybe you should take that into consideration when filtering the information you get.

LOL. No it wouldn't have. Literally 100% of the people that interacted with him daily or weekly (or in the case of donors, intermittently) hated him. He was an absolute jackass. Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous.
  17. The timing of this just doesn't make sense to me. I'm trying to understand the strategy for doing this now vs. 2 weeks from now. If you are a potential draft pick or a potential portal free agent why in the world would you suit up 2 games (or a bowl) for a school that just gave up on the season? I wonder if they have multiple players just shut it down right now because I sure as hell would instead of risking injury for those assholes.

This. We have really good high end talent but still lacking depth and still a ton of subpar players playing serious minutes. If you take a step back and look at our flaws it's not fair to expect this team to look like a top 3 team week in and week out. That's just not what we are now. We have national championship caliber talent at the top end but certainly not the overall roster
  19. It was just a god awful initial angle. And then he's either just incredibly slow or gave shit effort as Savion kept running. It was bad. This Texas team has a lot of top end talent on both sides of the ball but we still have holes all over the field where we are playing JAG's or worse. And that play was a perfect example.
  20. This. Red just isn't good at that role. Not even in the same ballpark as Roschon last year. Need to just scrap it.
  21. I just rewatched the 2nd half. The only real issue I had with a Sark play call was the 3rd and 3 right before the long FG. That was the drive we ran 8 straight times. Once we got to 3rd and 3, they had 9 in the damn box. Single coverage outside. If we make an aggressive play call there and convert we put the game away. Instead we ran right into it. The biggest problem was the defense. Hell if we just don't give up that long ass Savion pass (with the hurdle at the end) that gave them life up 20 we almost certainly win comfortably. Kitan Crawford was terrible on that play. Defense absolutely has to have some killer instinct in those situations. We had so many chances on D to put that game away and couldn't do it.
  22. Michigan has always been my favorite Big 10 team. Primarily because after visiting this shit stain on this earth that is Columbus Ohio in 2005, I'll pretty much always root for their enemy. But I'm rooting heavily for Penn St. to beat their ass tomorrow to hopefully put this ridiculous story on the 2nd page and let the rest of the teams get the headlines they deserve. They cheated. Massively. And they have zero right to play in the CFP this year.
  23. This. 100% team kiffin on this. If you have mental issues, that doesn't absolve you from taking a little bit of responsibility and meeting with your fucking coach. The fact that this is even an issue says everything about that generation.
  24. My biggest takeaway from the A&M contract release is Petrino didn't even have enough leverage to sign a multi-year contract (and is instead working under a "LOI"). I guess in theory maybe that LOI includes protection beyond this year but that's pretty funny that relationship was so tenuous from the beginning.
  25. I don't know why any position coach with options would go there knowing he will almost certainly be looking for a job in the next 2 years. They are going to have to overpay with guaranteed 3 year contracts to replace anyone on that staff.
