Only affects US military members and US govt workers overseas if the parent has been a US citizens for less than 5 years. If one of the parents has been a US citizen for more than 5 years  it doesn't apply.

    EVERYONE else is exempt.

Like I said above it's a stupid policy change but isn't the OMG headline that everyone was freaking out about.

That's not what the policy says at all.  You are referring to INA 316, which covers naturalization.  INA 320 covers the AUTOMATIC citizenship of a child once they acquire permanent residence in the US, with the acknowledged stipulations on parental citizenship, etc.  That policy has been changed and there is no longer automatic citizenship awarded to those children.  They must apply for naturalization.

He forgot to add "of course" when letting us know it was going to hit Florida.

"perhaps one of the biggest".  Here are a list of larger hurricanes AT LANDFALL, in the US alone:

    Michael (Cat 5)

    Andrew (Cat 5)

    Camille (Cat 5)

    Labor Day 1935 (Cat 5)

    Irma (Cat 4)

    Hugo (Cat 4)

    Carla (Cat 4)

    Okeechobee (Cat 4)

This list ignores 23 Cat 4/5 hurricanes that made landfall outside of the US.

Yeah because "all kids born to US Military overseas won't be US citizens anymore" to what is actually the policy change is and how many people it affects might just be slightly different.

Don't get me wrong it's a stupid policy but it isn't nearly as bad as the headlines and all the tweets suggested initially.

You're going to have to be a lot more clear.  The policy change explicitly states that those parents must apply to have their children become naturalized citizens, whereas previously they were automatically citizens at birth.  How is this not ripe for abuse?  How do you not see the reasoning for the change?

I don't have a horse in this race but that isn't a good defense of any city.

It is when the argument is that it's way worse than any other city in the country.

At any rate, my point is that mullet seemingly carries this retarded grudge with me wherever he goes.  He brings this shit up every time -- it ain't me.

  5. I've used Google Chrome (Windows 7) for years, but after a forced update a couple of nights ago, it's just ridiculously slow, and (according to Norton) is hitting the hard drive constantly.  I went into settings, tried to make things better, no luck.

What's a good alternative?  I don't stream anything, I don't download anything.  No, really.  WaPo is about my limit for salacious content.

Is Firefox the answer?  Gah, this is annoying.

Yes, this thread has taken many wrong sidetracks. Only reason I'm back on this is because a sublimely moronic claim by Jive Turkey that really turns progressivism on his head.  Jive Turkey is saying what you're saying (and your point is valid), but that our focus on her is unjustified because she's just a humble servant of a small-ish 700k district.  Their words, not mine.  That's beyond fucking stupid.  You can say people are targeting her for myriad reasons, but then to throw up your hands in defense and shout, "Leave AOC Alone...she be but from a small and humble district of a wee 700,000 citizens."  That's beyond dumb.  Almost every U.S. House Rep. has a district size of that population.  You can't yell at folks for targeting her and then try to hide behind bullshit like "Her district is small, leave her be y'all....Get!"  You can lay claim to a lot, but that's beyond idiotic.  It's right up there as being as dumb as some Trumpkin dipshit claiming he won the popular vote because he received more Electoral College Votes.

You want to be a U.S. House Member?  You win over a district of about 700,000 people, you deal with the dissent, and you sure s shit don't have your supporters claim you're being unfairly targeted because your district is so humbly sized.  She's being unfairly targeted but for progressive supporters of hers to say "be nice, she has a small district" is in defiance of progressivism because it screams, "I ain't good at civics. I ain't good at history.  I ain't good at maths."  You know who else screams that shit?  Trumpkins.  I love her taking on Pelosi.  I can't wait to throw some AOC shit next month when Pelosi is in Austin.  meantime, tell that fucking dipshit up above to shut the fuck up about her district size.  It's the same size as everyone else's.  You don't get protection for being in a district that's actually the same size as everybody else's.  Let's all quit making excuses for stupid people on all three sides of the aisle.

I'm sorry, you think ***I'M*** the one with Asperger's?

  7. Yeah, you're the guy who gets arrested multiple times and wonders why cops hate him.  Look, we've been through this -- it's a fairly typical rust-belt city with similar violent crime statistics to Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and well behind Memphis, New Orleans, Baltimore.  I'm not saying it's fucking Nirvana.  Let's face it, though, you are a big part of your own problem there.

Whatever, dude.  You should let it go.  I'm sorry you got the shit beat out of you.

Here we fucking go again. Have people not learned anything?

I'm not sure who your comment is directed at.  It appears to me that the qualification is basically saying "this policy is not retroactive".

What's up with the hate-boner for vocal fry? It's how they talk, why do you give a shit about the tones coming out of their mouth more than the words?

Oh, it's a mindset fully put upon the right by talk radio.  The current theory is that vocal fry equates to mental illness.

These fuckers will stop at nothing.

  10. She may have great legs, but Carrie Underwood makes worthless music and is highly overrated as a singer.  Zero soul.  Blech.

(tell us what you really think, jj)

  11. Not that I have anything against smoking brisket, but it's really unnecessary if you're trying to make chili.  I'd start with a basic mix of ground or diced beef (chuck, sirloin, and even brisket if you know a butcher who will grind it for you -- HEB will), and maybe some ground pork.  Screw that up a few times before going all in with the good stuff.
