  1. Clearly, he was in the South endzone.
  2. “Playing with fire.” Yeah.
  3. Beyond Fox praising Trump and shaping his message into something palatable for conservative viewers, I find it much more disturbing that a significant portion of the right-wing viewers now seem to expect, or even demand, these unquestioned and unfiltered claims.
  4. Damn. It's relatively quiet this morning.
  5. Kris Kristofferson was a badass at life. RIP
  6. Any suggestions for a contractor to discuss removal and pool installation in the metroplex? Thanks.
  7. This isn't much, but I know two kids who attend WashU, one of whom interned for me a couple of summers ago. He's from L.A. and the other from Long Island, both without any family connection to the school. They both love it, and their parents are very pleased with the academic support the school provides. My daughter was accepted to WashU last year but chose to focus on schools with graduate programs in veterinary medicine, so she didn’t end up visiting the campus. I was disappointed but I do like the in-state public school tuition.
  8. “Transformers One.” It’s the origin story of the Autobots that’s been missing. The prequel that delivers you from the early friendship between Orion Pax and Megatron to the war between Autobots and Decepticons. Animation was a concern going in, but it is at or near the top of the franchise for me. We left the theater ready for the future stories. If you’re a Transformers geek, you’ll love it.
  9. If attending Texas had been priority one, I might have chosen to live in Fort Worth and enroll them in FWISD. While Fort Worth is a nice place to live, its schools lag behind those in Houston and Dallas in statewide testing performance. Strategically moving there for high school would have made it easier for the kids to rank in the top 5% of their class, considering the academic landscape. As it was, there was a small exodus of kids from my kid's senior class during her four years of high school trying the same.
  10. I thought I heard that Dallas Wilson might be somewhat redundant given the talent we currently have committed, whereas Daylan McCutcheon seems to be a more likely choice for the staff than Keshaun Johnson. But at the moment, Johnson appears to be listening more.
  11. I'm just an old attorney who's tired of dealing with attorneys.
  12. @thunderlounge@immamac I too need a website (recently decided to become a solo practitioner again rather than retire). I'm not as interested in generating business from the website as my clients have been with me a long time and I'm not trying to garner more of them. Priority One Is setting up something with a custom email domain, then I can circle back to creating an actual website. But, my work product and my clients' invoices are piling up because I don't have a professional email address to utilize. Suggestions are welcomed, and I'd gladly pay for your time and a website. Thanks.
  13. ... in Iraq? I didn't know this until recently, but there were three Texas Exes killed on 9/11. Two men perished in the towers and a woman died on Flight 93. The woman was an ADPi from Houston Stratford. It only took me 23 years to figure this out.
  14. 9/11: The FDNY | 60 Minutes @ 31:00 is the segment with the kids of firefighters who died on 9/11.
  15. I liked it. Glad my kids dragged me to see it in the theater rather than waiting for it to come out on TV
  16. obligatory "made an appearance" coming in and out of the tunnel.
  17. Gutted. His poor parents.
  18. Betty Bridges. Todd Bridge's mom. Good Times; 2 Broke Girls: and ER
  19. Interesting idea and a boon for UTD. I looked into it and found that this was contemplated before - within the 2000s - but UTSW was dissatisfied with the bridge program between the schools. So, deal off and still off until UTSW can be convinced (or compelled) otherwise.
  20. I wish I had come across this thread sooner. This all feels so personal—dealing with parents, UTIs, hospice care, etc. We said goodbye to my Mom last month, and I still can't write this without getting teary-eyed. I’m constantly aware of how many times a day I think of something to tell my Mom or have a question I wish she could answer. My brother, who was the first responder by default, because he lived nearby, truly deserves a medal. He, like horn4life, stepped up in so many ways over the years, far beyond what anyone could have expected would be needed. I've never been prouder of him. What I've learned from these past few years is to always expect the unexpected. There isn’t a flow chart or checklist in the world that can guide you perfectly from Point A to Point Z in situations like this. You learn from your mistakes and just hope you didn’t make too many, or worse, do something that impacts your parents' quality of life or hastens their decline. Now, the challenge we’re facing is that Dad never imagined he would outlive Mom. Everyone is guilty of assuming it would be the other way around. In his 80s now, he's always had bouts of depression throughout his adult life, but now it's worse than ever. I suppose he's earned it in a way. To his credit, he tries to put on a brave face when we're around or on the phone, but he sleeps most of the time and isn’t taking care of himself. My brother, once again, is doing his best. I try to get there as often as I can to relieve him, but as Dad's condition worsens, the odds are getting longer and the days fewer. Most people don't get to share as many years with both of their parents as I have been gifted. For that, I am grateful beyond words. Regardless, it's not easy to see them finally go.
  21. My takeaway from the article, the Astros won another World Series and I'm just now learning about it. Raise the banner!!!
  22. Street recalled that on the night he was taken backstage to meet Elvis, Elvis was the only person in the room who argued that Texas deserved to win the "Game of the Century" against Arkansas. Everyone else believed Arkansas was the better team and should have won. Years later, I had the honor of meeting George Klein at Graceland. When I mentioned this story, he confirmed it was true and admitted that he was one of those who, at the time, thought Arkansas was the better team.
