  1. This might be common knowledge at this point, but the Super Bowl was a perfect example of the impact that this can have. The Pats D waited until the McVay's mic in Goff's helmet cut off with 15 seconds left on the play clock to get set in their defense. Without McVay to help him, Goff was pretty bad and the Rams offense put up 3 points.
  2. I'm sorry but this USC example is awful. Specifically the part about saying they were a better team on paper than LSU. USC sucked last year. It's like comparing our 2016 team to a NY6 bowl winner that year. Talent "on paper" doesn't matter. As Texas fans we should know that better than anybody. Discussion of the upcoming season should be based around the skill levels of the players in 2019, not how they were rated as freshmen. And it's pretty obvious that LSU in 2019 will be significantly better than USC in 2018. Comparing them in that way is pretty disingenuous and I think you know that. I think using USC as a data point of how our defense performs against pro-style offenses is fine, and the rushing yardage is an interesting point. My opinion is that our defense can play the run well, but they don't always do so. USC, UGA, OU2 were elite run defense performances, but the defense didn't perform like that consistently. Maybe they will against LSU, but I don't think that's a given. Coburn could really raise the ceiling of our defense, but replacing Omenihu is going to be tough and Mac is a total question mark. Wheeler was bad but at least we knew he could be ok against USC, UGA, LSU, etc. We can't say that about Adeoye or whoever else wins the spot yet.
  3. This might be one of my favorite takes I've seen on Surly
  4. Ingram/Whittington is a much better depth chart for a JUCO than most other major programs. OU got Stevenson despite Brooks/Sermon being firmly entrenched as starters and being much more productive than Ingram/Whitt. Plus Marcus Majors in the same class and another 4* sophomore. Of course OU recruits skill position guys much more effectively than Drayton and has shown they can have multiple 1k rushers in a season, but my point is just that it can be done. As much as we love Ingram/Whitt, a RB room that consists of 2 guys with 700 total yards between them and no current RBs committed is a better opportunity for JUCOs than most other major programs.
  5. What's the JUCO RB outlook like this year? There's only one ranked on 247 and it's a 3* to Memphis. JUCOs seem to pop up late in the cycle so maybe that's a route we can explore. Maybe someone like Rhamondre Stevenson will pop up. I'd be kind of ok with Jordan/Richardson and a high floor JUCO. It'd be dissappointing but it wouldn't
  6. Hell no. What the fuck is going on in this page? Evans is a top 10 player in the country. He'd be our best RB in like a decade the second he got on campus. Do y'all really think our locker room and coaching staff are so fragile that Evans would hurt us? But he'd be fine anywhere else?
  7. Chris Thompson Jr.
  8. The post was from Suchomel and said 4 in the next week or two. Davis and CTJ are almost guaranteed as 2 He recently put in picks for Brandon Campbell and Latrell Neville, both of whom will be there this weekend, so I'm guessing one of them is the other. Neville is apparently looking to decide in early August now He also said there was one other maybe that he needed to check on
  9. Such says Karic weighed 255 during a visit in June
  10. Gotta read the fine print. Those were the best OTs that camped at A&M. I'm guessing that Byrd and Brockermeyer didn't camp at A&M
  11. When he says "the three" I think he's referring to Princely/Thomas/Jackson not Princely/VB/Collins
  12. He posts in the YT comments of Collin Johnson's vlogs sometimes
  13. My posts have been down on Majors, but I do want to clarify that I still think he's a good take as an interior guy. He's not Bragg, but I like him. At the very least he plays violent and he's a culture fit. Also he's not a human cube. I said 3 stars was appropriate, but that's because four and five star guys usually have higher athletic ceilings, are more physically mature, or are really advanced technically than what my impression of Majors is.
  14. I think he was interested but we never recruited him very hard and it seemed like he was going to whoever recruited him early and hard. Like McClellan but 2 years later in the timeline.
  15. Lol dude I'm just saying I'm not going to root for Bama flips the next couple cycles
  16. This is kind of where I'm at. Maybe not FR AA, but I think it's safe to expect JWhitt to be good. If I remember right the freshmen that got hype last year were Sterns, Foster, and Ingram once he got on campus. Cook too but it was always known he'd be behind David and Boyd.
  17. I am still very skeptical of any Wheaton smoke
  18. He's being penalized because he struggled big time at camps. Let's not try to rationalize it. A lot of guys play OT in HS and then rep at OG. 3 stars feels appropriate for Majors.
  19. I just want to add "somewhere else in the SEC that isn't Bama" since we play them 22/23. I enjoy aggy schadenfreude as much as anyone, but a Demas flip would be less funny when he lines up against us.
  20. As we land these big commitments, let's not lose track of what's important: our ranking. We're up to #4 right now. Juan Davis will put us .12 behind OSU so if the BOMC can work fast by this weekend we could be top 3.
  21. Suchomel I was a Preston Stone guy. The more I learned about Milroe beyond his HUDL the happier I was with him as the take. But now I'm sold and never going back. Also watch Milroe's face at the end of the video. Even if we weren't his first choice, kid's excited.
  22. Orlando is pretty strict with the LB rotation. I don't see him regularly playing the second stringers outside of garbage time. They'll all get a shot, but I don't see him deviating from playing his main three guys almost exclusively once he knows who they are.
  23. Spiegelman put in Texas picks for Clayton Smith and Juan Davis
  24. Us not offering Stowers doesn't have anything to do with my point Both schools took the first QB willing to pull the trigger. In both cases there were more highly ranked (by the services) guys available. When Stone commits elsewhere there will be similar comments here about how we could have had him but took Milroe instead and how Herman got the guy he wanted and so on. Although Surly has wanted Milroe for awhile now so it's not just spin Exactly I'm not trying to compare Milroe and Stowers. Milroe is clearly better. Even though I really like Stone, I'm perfectly happy with Milroe as our take. Video alone has me sold.
  25. Y'all are laughing at them sticking up for Stowers but it's basically the same thing as us taking Milroe over Stone If Stone committed to a rival in a couple weeks we'd be saying the same shit
