  1. Who that has to be angry before there’s change, isn’t angry? The $$$$ donors can’t be any more satisfied than the rest of us.
  2. They’re so unconcerned about us scoring, field position, our offense is a joke.
  3. We look so bad. I’m so tired of shitty coaches. No creativity. No situational awareness. No self awareness. No identity. Squandered talent. We took the hot young coach everyone wanted. He’s just not able to see past his own ego. They won’t run him off. He’ll get one more year and if there’s an uptick, like Georgia, maybe more. I’m just tired of caring so much about something I have no control over. There’s still booze.
  4. I guess pushing off is cool nowWhat does Tom get paid per play? Just offense. How much per play? Fucking moron.

  6. I have heard that Joel Klatt did not kill any hookers. None at all.
  7. I understand they're having a big clearance sale.
  8. I wanna party with you, cowboy!
  9. Shouldn't you be pissing on a recruit's announcement to come to Texas?
  10. My son was a little reluctant to offer up the bass rig for a trip this far north. Like Apocalypse Now, or some shit. Is that stretch of water from the dam down to Gloster Bend good fishing? That would justify buying a metal boat and never fighting the wake boats on LBJ again.
  11. I found some new water this weekend but I'm not sure what I found. Checked out the Camp Creek ramp on extreme north end of Travis. Also checked out the park at Shaffer Bend, and the park/ramp at Gloster Bend. I have put in at Jonestown before, and put in at Paleface all the time, but I have never been this far north and I don't know what I'm looking at. Saw one guy pulling away from the ramp with a trailered 15' metal boat. Is that as much as you should put in this stretch of river? Given its just downstream from the dam at Lake Marble Falls, it s probably full of big sand bars. We also saw some big rocks right at Shaffer Bend. Anyone familiar with this water? Is a fiberglass boat a bad idea up this far? There are no condos, no boat docks, no houses, just water and bank. Beautiful, but I have to assume if it was easily navigable it would be covered in wake boats and jet skis. Would be a white bass killing zone when they run.
  12. I don't think he means Redhead Mattress Thrashers.
  13. Ikejime; an ice pick looking device into the brain, then a specialized, long wire, pushed into the spinal canal the length of the fish to stop involuntary muscle twitching, then into the ice brine. I have never done this but I'm curious. It is said to preserve the just caught taste by preventing the build up of lactic acid in the fish as it dies slowly when just tossed into a cooler. As for smoking a jack, you can smoke almost anything and it will taste ok. Not necessarily like fish, but like the smoke off the wood and all the crap you rub on the fish. I love smoking salmon. I think I'll pass on the jacks. Fresh water, its white perch (crappie, socalait, etc.), white bass, cat fish (not going to make a distinction and start that debate), various sunfish, spotted bass. If big blue gill had more meat and fewer bones, they'd be #1. Very sweet tasting fish. I have kept spots to eat in the past, but not anymore. Whites are just too easy and too numerous. Like keeping a few trout but releasing the reds.
  14. I find the gaftop sail catfish to be a decent source of courtbuillon meat. No, my old partner ate, and the young biologist researched, the hard head. The nasty, bait stealing, tire puncturing, hard head. Gaffs are slimy, and as such, kind of a pain in the ass, but the meat is ok. I would prefer a young but legal black drum, but gaff is in the ball park. Of course, there is a Vietnamese fish sauce prepared by fermenting mullet. I haven't tried it, but I would if it was offered to me by someone who was an accomplished fish sauce chef. I think it depends on what you were raised to avoid. My best friend's grandfather was from the Groves. When he was a kid, Amberjack wasn't really an eating fish. I freaking love Amberjack. My in laws eat fresh water Stripers. Not my thing.
  15. A former partner of mine who was born in Oklahoma, moved to Portland (TX) and went to the pier and caught a big mess of hardhead, took them home, cleaned and ate them. Said they were good. After that, I found a guy's marine biology masters or phd project posted online. It included laboratory analysis of the meat, a study of their diet, and blind taste tests of the meat compared to other salt water games fish prepared the same way. The hardhead more than held its own and was preferred to trout by a number of participants. Their diet is no worse than a black or a red. The "full of bacteria" story is a myth. They're just slimy and have a nasty spine. I still wouldn't eat one if you paid me.
  16. You don't necessarily have to catch bass out of a shiny bass rig. I guess that fresh water bodes ill for the Texas oyster industry. Ever fish Rayburn or Toledo Bend?
  17. And he says stupid shit. You forgot to mention, he says stupid shit. Says it in a droning on, wandering and frequently incorrect, kind of way. If Joe Buck was any other guy, and he sat down near you at a party, you would get up and go looking for people talking about politics or religion.
  18. Didn't get back home until the top of the 2nd. Listening on the radio was so nice. Those guys have to paint the picture for you, but they use such economy of words. Buck and Smoltz say so many dumb things that are so irrelevant. I experimented with the various settings on my receiver and was able to find a setting that has a lot of crowd noise and reduces the voice track to kind of an undertone; you can hear it there but it's hard to understand. Improved my experience tremendously.
  19. Hardly any freshwater guys who aren't fly fishing posting on here. There have to be more bass fishermen on Surly.
  20. Son and I launch at the Burnet County park. We left the ramp two Saturdays ago to throw baits at the drop offs to catch some early fall blacks. We weren't 100 yards from the ramp when the surface exploded with whites pushing up a huge ball of shad. We were obligated to stop and catch about 10 for the shits and giggles. We weren't in the mood to clean fish so we released them all, but it was a good time. We were a little early for the largies but caught a good number of spots. Love that lake, unless the wind is blowing. Then it gets a little dicey.
  21. I'm not giving Orlando a pass for continuing to run head long into the same wall, nor am I giving Herman a pass for not doing something about that, and the frequent regression to "shut it down" play calling. However, depth is an issue. Our 1 deep is as good as anybody. Beyond that, it's still hit and miss, and in some positions we are way past the two deep due to injuries. I don't think that excuses failure as much as it exposes weakness in scheme and preparation. So says the guy in his chair in an office avoiding his own work.
  22. It takes solid horse sense to know when you're not the smartest guy in the room, and humility to go hire someone who is better at a specific task than you. I give the man the credit he is due. He is smart enough to know when he isn't smart enough, and wise enough to know it doesn't matter as long as the job gets done.
  23. The look on Chapman's face as that ball left the bat was just priceless.
  24. I must respectfully disagree with the proposition set forth by Mr. Futureman. I base my opinion on the apparent stupidity of our present Defensive Coordinator, and the apparent inability of our Head Coach to grasp the size and the nature of the challenges before him. Fisticuffs will not be necessary. I am old enough to have been hit in the face a number of times, but young enough to remember how much it hurt. But no, we aint winning out, no fucking how.
  25. If freaky intellect was essential for a HC then LSU would be in deep shit. They are not in deep shit.
