  1. So the RE owners are exempt from property taxes too, right? Or is everyone in Seattle a Microsoft billionaire?
  2. This really sucks too. Chicago was a tremendous restaurant town before this. Going to be lot of smoking ruins pretty soon.
  3. The CDC revision is interesting. IMHE has about 65,000 to date estimated. And CDC is 37,000 with huge drop off in weekly deaths? Kind of a big spread there Bob. Haven't really dug into this but if this pattern holds its kind of a big deal, no?
  4. I liked how he went after the nearest threat Clyde Drexler. "I got something for that dude" then scorched Clyde for 35 in the first half of game one. Love Clyde but he had no chance.
  5. Man, if there were ever a model that is ripe for disruption this is it. Hard to justify 60k per year for some online classes. And good luck getting a bunch of college kids to practice social distance over the long run. I wouldn't have done it either.
  6. Have you ever seen Grand Central at rush hour? Mass transit brings more people into tighter quarters than anything on earth, especially in NYC. When we get real contact tracing people will really see it. I bet the exposure for anyone who rode that in March is much much higher than the national average but you cant prove it.
  7. The decomposing bodies thing is ghastly for a first world country. Shit.
  8. For Fauci to say Remdesiver will become the standard of care is a big deal. I dont remember him using that kind of tone. Plus this dude was all over HIV so he presumably has an eye for what has a chance and what doesn't.
  9. Still think this will be a game changer. I would think in general if this works it works across the spectrum of patients.
  10. Amazed how Rodman could party like a rock star and still play his ass off. Dude was a physical freak. And fuck Isiah Thomas. And China.
  11. At last count something like 5% of applications got filled and there has been all kinds of abuse where public companies with huge revenues got funds. The big banks are facing lawsuits over how they prioritized their large customers, etc. The little guys aren't getting shit so far. It will take well over $1 trillion to really fund this thing. Thats if Congress has the appetite, and businesses can hold out long enough. I bet 25% of restaurants and bars in Chicago dont make it through this. Terrible.
  12. Hopeful, but IIRC correctly history is littered with vaccine attempts that didn't translate from primates to people. Ebola was one of them I think. That said, it seems probable they are closing in. Just continue to be stunned and amazed at medical science. You have a lot of the brightest people on the planet going balls to the wall to make it happen. Restores your faith in humanity.
  13. I think at this point the number of COVID cases is not especially helpful. Of course it is increasing almost entirely because of moving from zero to 10 mph on testing. Too late. Hospital admissions, ICU, and death rate matter now. Those are the curves to watch. For policy I would ignore the new cases curve. Kinda pathetic that's where we are. Antibody testing? Now you have my attention.
  14. More shitty B&W movies Third Man Judgment at Nuremberg They Were Expendable Twelve O Clock High. Maltese Falcon Double Indemnity Manhattan
  15. CR bullshit completely overwhelming a "no politics" thread is the best indicator of a return to normalcy. Carry on.
  16. Some dude in China didn't cook his bat and now there is no sports. Fuck China indeed.
  17. All Jordan the owner needs to to draft another Michael Jordan. Voila, genius. Krause was OK only. Nobody knew Pippen and Phil Jackson would be that good. Jordan gives you a gigantic margin for error on any other moves you make.
  18. ChiTown, do you have an opinion or any scuttlebutt on plasma treatments? That road seems to make some sense and would assume we could scale in short run.
  19. I would buy that kind of number. Not herd immunity by any means but certainly significant. And since people under 18 are largely unaffected I would think you are really looking for 70% of the 80% above 18. Now you are about 200mm people. Still going to need a vaccine.
  20. I thought with Remdesivir the hope was more for early intervention [pre ventilator]. Not sure that aspect has been proven or not at this point. And since WHO is apparently the propaganda arm of China, color me skeptical of their motives in front running the actual release. Still, not great. Hopefully not terrible either.
  21. This is our concern, dude. Agree, getting frustrated with Illinois governor because I think at some level they are moving the goalposts. The curve has been flattened big time. Never got close to capacity on ICU beds here from what I can tell. Thats a great thing, but you cant start changing criteria because of some vague concern that we are all gonna die or this shut down will go for another year. Cant and won't happen.
  22. People brought up on the stroke inducing way they cut all video now will pass out before they get to the end of the brilliant opening scene of Touch of Evil. When you get into it film noir is awesome. And Godfather is the pinnacle of American film. This is known.
  23. I think Treasury basically outsourced the paperwork to the banks for a fee. Of course the banks took care of their big clients and Mom and Pop were left out in the cold. Insert my "shocked" face.
  24. This is good for Illinois. They keep pushing the deadline out even though most of the Covid projections say the peak has passed here. They followed Ohio into this and will likely take their lead at some level. Look at some point we have to take a reasonable level of risk in going back and how that risk is measured needs to be consistent and transparent or the public will just wing it.
  25. Had a friend who's dad died up in Canada [not COVID] this week. No flights in so he cant go bury his old man or visit the family. Heartbreaking.
