  1. Yeah, how dare Charlie Strong get fired. Proves Texas is a mercenary organization. Is nothing sacred anymore?
  2. It was a strange situation, he was absolutely being groomed to take over, but never seemed to show the flashes of leadership or innovation you might expect out of someone who really wants to be a head coach. Once he was let go, it seemed to both light a fire under him and let Bob know he needed to find someone he could turn the reins over to entirely.
  3. No. Not because there's no money, but because the amount it would take to get Heupel back on campus for any kind of role would be double what he would take anywhere else. He was rightfully pissed at being made the scapegoat for some of the decisions Bob made for the offense and the failures on the other side of the ball. As long as Bob is hovering anywhere around OU, Heupel will show up when Tennessee comes to play.
  4. I worked in Nova Scotia for a week or so, and some of the other attendees had families of lobster fishers from the south side. One said her dad swore that the McDonald's lobster roll there was the best you could get on the whole peninsula. Never woulda guessed.
  5. There was a Taco Mayo in the bottom floor of one of the dorms at OU when I was there. Never an amazing idea for a whole meal, but you could get down to the pennies on your meal plan points with dollar menu items, including a tortilla chili pie.
  6. Rumor is if you ask for dog food, you can have a very interesting night.
  7. I'd absolutely eat a sandwich on cornbread, but I'm also fine with a McGriddle on a pancake, so I'm pan-pain-ual, it seems.
  8. Structurally, it's closer to cake than traditional bread, in my opinion.
  9. It's also helpful if you want to leave a fake version on the field for an opposing team to pick up.
  10. One of my favorite memories is the rehearsal dinner at a cousin's wedding in Annapolis. The old timers all had personalized crab knives that looked about a thousand years old. They could go through a half dozen in ten minutes and leave them with nothing but gills and Old Bay.
  11. Of course you're right, I was thinking of Rambo from last year.
  12. He came in and played really well as a freshman, then got steadily worse and less confident as things progressed. If Miami is able to undo some of the damage done, they'll have a really talented guy to work with. They were able to do it with Farooq at WR, so it's definitely possible in some cases.
  13. Second time is for getting serious. First one is for cruising and scorin' chicks, man.
  14. I think it had something to do with chest painters in the stands in the wrong order at some point a long time ago. Sort of "Tceh" adjacent.
  15. That would truly be the first big, public shot across the bow that I can pinpoint from the OU NIL crowd. They're getting some of their efforts aligned, and players are mentioning it more during recruiting interviews, but I don't think there's been a high-profile player known to be looking for a payday that's gone to OU just yet. Am I forgetting about anyone?
  16. True. I've also actually made several of Lagerstrom's recipes, and haven't gotten to a single one of Weissman's.
  17. It is, and the next time I make a stew, I'm going to try frozen to see if there's actually a difference. Here's a recipe I've used a few times. The big change is doctoring up storebought stock with gelatin, better than bouillon, and tomato paste. I have tons of homemade chicken stock, but almost never have beef.
  18. The one exception to this was a previous coworker, probably the best-traveled person I know in my personal life. Irish, had been everywhere for either work or fun. Sri Lanka was his pick, and I don't even know enough about it to know why.
  19. The little quiche things are pretty good, you're right. The tomato soup is basically pasta sauce in consistency and salt/sugar level.
  20. Sheet pan salmon with potatoes and parmesan asparagus. I don't always make the arugula basil dill salad for the top, but it's really nice to cut through the buttery potatoes, etc. https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/wprm_print/103915
  21. Man, I have such strong memories of going to Strawns and Cypress Inn when I was a kid visiting family. My mom refuses to eat any other strawberry pie.
  22. Try to sneak onto the Barksdale grounds. They don't mean it when they say they'll shoot. Or try the marinated crab claws at Herby-K's. Good place to kill an afternoon with a beer or three.
  23. Not knowing the ins and outs of Texas HS Football, why would this be?
  24. Hookem and Sux pretty much nailed my thoughts. Hopefully they won't have to play any true freshmen apart from Pettaway and maybe a RB. If anyone else sees meaningful time this early, it's a sign of a bad year. Woodi Washington coming back was a big win, and means they only have to rewire half of the secondary. OU fans are pretty critical of Gabriel, but that's because we hyperfixate on easy throws that were way off. We don't notice that it happens to every single QB for every team every week. I also really wonder about Ugwoegbu moving on. Volumes have been written about his ability or deficiency, but he's never complained, always worked his ass off. OL is going to be about what it was in the bowl game, so that won't be awful with the addition of Rouse.
