  1. We peaked at #7 in his power rankings last season, so we must be REALLY good this year!
  2. Ladies and gents, it's Christmas morning!
  3. Rollercoaster well ahead of schedule...
  4. I was impressed that he immediately ran to back up 3rd.
  5. I'd bet a lot of money that there will eventually be lots of excuses.
  6. That was at the Broncos' stadium.
  7. LSU bailed on that in the 90s. aggy was actually good back then and beat LSU 5 times in a row, mainly because LSU was coached by Curley Hallman. They had two more years on the contract and LSU cancelled, using the We-Need-All-NC-Games-at-Home-for-Financial-Reasons excuse. aggy threatened to sue, but LSU fired Hallman and got a lot better pretty quickly, and then offered to restart the series, but aggy said no. Edit: Just found this... This is from GBH, but the answer is provided by an LSU blogger:
  8. You'd also need to find another John Tudor for that.
  9. I was there. The Rocks started their backup catcher at designated "hitter" (sic). He now has a .239 OBP.
  10. If read that guys have estimated that the "break-even" success rate is 75%, but that's just dumb because that amalgamates a thousand different game situations. There are plenty of game situations where I'm sure a 60% success rate would break even. I was watching a game the other day where a team REALLY needed to advance a base runner, and the defensive team was playing a catcher who had been in the minors most of the season and was 0-11 against SB attempts. The pitcher never even threw over to 1B and the inning ended quickly. I'm also frequently amazed that there seem to be 2-3 guys in the Astros thread who are always calling for sac bunts to advance the runner. This situation is starting to really annoy me.
  11. I honestly think stolen bases is the next biggest market inefficiency. Teams flat-out do not try to steal nearly enough (Tigers = 64 SB attempts all season). Guys like Naylor and Goldschmidt have shown that you don't even have to be speedy to be a successful base stealer. There needs to be at least one team that tries to go full-blown '85 Cardinals and just run and run and run. With so many shitty teams who really aren't trying to win, there is no excuse for at least one of them not to try something crazy. The most obvious team that should be trying this strategy is the Rockies. If I were GM, I'd try like hell to trade for Chandler Simpson and Victor Scott, have an every day outfield of Scott, Simpson, and Doyle, let them chase down everything that's hit and tell each of them that I want 100 SB attempts next season.
  12. The John McGraw/Christy Mathewson Giants trained in Marlin for years. Basically, any place with hot mineral springs was a magnet for tourism in general and spring training specifically in the early 20th century.
  13. If I were trying to hide from that fat bitch, no place better than the veggie section...
