  1. I keep getting reports of olds saying it’s just the flu and carrying on as normal. I’m not cheering for Darwin but.....
  2. I agree that most kids that would be considered for retention will move on. Many times the parent wants it and they are on the same page with the school. Most of my battles are with parents that want it and I don’t. There’s not really much research to support it as an effective intervention after kindergarten.
  3. The long term economic impacts for small businesses that do survive will be rough. A lot of time to regain profitability, pay off debt, and rebuild cash reserves. Nobody will be thinking about expanding for a while. We will be fine in the long run but it may be more than a year or two before it’s all out of the system.
  4. I bet they automatically advance everybody unless it’s an individual schools decision to retain a particular student.
  5. Oversimplification but certain grades are SSI years where you test, kids that fail get intervention and retest, kids that fail second administration go to summer school and test a 3rd time. Students in special education can opt out of second administration if an ARD committee decides that. A delayed calendar fucks all of that up.
  6. Definitely agree that this will be the end of a lot of local bars and restaurants. Other than the bigger names, it will be hard to get much info on them though. Most will close for a while and simply never reopen. Its a really tough industry. I was reading an article about San Antonio restaurants that closed in 2019. One guy said he could have made it would 6 more customers per day. Have to image there are a lot barely getting by that this will destroy.
  7. I now know somebody with an official positive test for covid 19. Was only a matter of time. Haven’t had any contact recently.
  8. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott today announced that he has waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.
  9. Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath told school superintendents and lawmakers Sunday to be prepared for long-term school district closures, potentially through the end of the school year, especially in areas where the new coronavirus has spread.
  10. That’s fucking regarded. They are going to get some olds killed.
  11. I read that article once....at the HOUSTON RODEO. All kidding aside, I read that a few days ago and went to the store the next day. It’s when reality set in.
  12. Sanjay Gupta is on cnn saying we have 74,000 ventilators. How can the numbers from different people so off?
  13. EPL going to postpone until April. Not sure about the Houston rodeo yet.
  14. News conference regarding two presumptive positive cases of coronavirus in Austin-Travis County set to begin soon.
  15. Clearly this has been coming for a while now. Just wondering what news/numbers came out in the last 36 hours that sent all the closures into overdrive. Or is it just more research about how this spreads getting out to the masses? I didn’t pay that much attention to it until I read one of the articles posted here yesterday. Went to the store and stocked up today. This shit it real, and it’s obvious. But why did so many people figure it out at once yesterday?
  16. I actually don’t. Other than a few regarded folks that live in fantasy land, people are starting to figure out how to beat this with social distancing.
  17. Yes but it going down 20% and being shut down would be much more damaging than just waiting it out until Monday.
