  1. White, suburban, former republican here. There are some that are just anti-trump and will go back. Most of us will never pull the R lever again though. The shift in the burbs actually began before trump, he just accelerated it. When I moved to Wilco 10 years ago, it was bright red. My neighborhood polling place was almost as 50/50 as you could get in 2016. I would be shocked if Biden doesn’t win by 20+ points this time.
  2. Georgia is a fast growing state that is 55% non-Latino White. That puts the state at about 27% white male, which is the republican wheel house. Obviously who shows up on Election Day tends to be a much older and whiter crowd, but it’s amazing to me that Republicans still hold onto Georgia.
  3. I can live with everything so far but damn I love draught house on a nice day.
  4. This election will come down to how well the democrats turn their people out in key states. We know that trump has the most loyal base of any modern politician and they will turn out for him. We also know that democrats will be fighting an uphill battle in states that are actively trying to suppress the vote. I’m far from a “polls don’t mean shit” guy, but Dems will have to have a solid lead in swing state polls for me to feel comfortable. One positive I will give biden is that black voters have shown up for him. That was an area where Hillary was particularly weak, especially in key cities such as Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
  5. It’s also harder to argue that their presence posed a huge distraction to the educational environment when kids weren’t actually going to school.
  6. I don’t disagree with this other than the black vote. They will be out in force. They almost singlehandedly won him the primary.
  7. The schools ability to expel or suspend for online behavior that happens outside of school goes back to tinker vs des monies. What meets “the tinker standard” largely has depended on what judge you end up in front of in recent years. It typically goes back to how disruptive to the school environment they behavior was. I have no clue if this would meet the standard. In Texas we have David’s law which is more related to cyber bullying a specific student or group of students. You can get your ass in big trouble for violating that even if it happens during the middle of summer.
  8. Gambling odds aren’t always right, especially 7 months out, but trump is still a -150 favorite. Of course Hillary was a bigger favorite than that on actual Election Day. Just want to give the “trump is gone for sure” crowd a little pause.
  9. Put it on CNBC just now and their banner said something about a record drop in retail sales leading the market down. Umm I was told this was baked in!?
  10. Racist humor mixed with jokes that involve OTM puts. Surly wheelhouse.
  11. Same things they do in education all the time. Defund and then launch attacks through their media surrogates. That builds the political will to pass vouchers, charter schools, etc.
  12. Not surprising but toll road usage is way down. I know a lot of them are privately owned. They were planning on using the extra mopac express lane revenue to help fun the new project on 183 north. Another winner is the lungs of everybody in very polluted cities. Read that Delhi isn’t at dangerous levels right now when they are typically at 40x the threshold for the most dangerous level.
  13. Anybody else getting robo texts and calls from Austin/Travis county telling them to stay home this weekend?
  14. Went to wiki on the killer bees. Seems that they are our friends now. In areas of suitable temperate climate, the survival traits of Africanized colonies help them outperform European honey bee colonies. They also return later and basically work under conditions that often keep European bees hive-bound. This is the reason why they have gained a well-deserved reputation as superior honey producers, and those beekeepers who have learned to adapt their management techniques now seem to prefer them to their European counterparts. Studies show that in areas of Florida that contain Africanized honey bees, the honey production is higher than in areas in which they do not live.[44] It is also becoming apparent that Africanized bees have another advantage over European bees in that they seem to show a higher resistance to several health issues including parasites such as Varroa destructor, some fungal diseases like chalkbrood and even the mysterious colony collapse disorder which is currently plaguing beekeepers. So despite all its negative factors, it is possible that the Africanized honey bee might actually end up being a boon to apiculture.
  15. When I was a kid there were always news stories about killer bees and how they were going to take over the US (not the astros). What ever happened with that?
  16. I usually put around $1,500 on my credit card each month and pay it off. Currently sitting at $205 with 10 days left. Pretty much all of that was from hitting up a few local restaurants doing take out. Evidently the big loser is places I was running up bar tabs.
  17. Joe exotic reportedly has the covid. He wasn’t even much of a celebrity when the year started. Strange times.
  18. AISD officially closed schools indefinitely. Instruction will continue online.
  19. English motherfuckers. Do y’all speak it?
  20. TEA assured funding for this academic year, so yeah I don't get it. Either the district or TEA are BSing right now.
  21. It’s complicated because there are 3 classes of districts based on their property wealth per student and they are all on different schedules. Class 1 gets 10 payments a year from what I understand. Not really my realm though.
  22. AISD sent out termination emails to employees that are less than 50% of full time last night. Hourly positions such as custodians and teacher assistants are only being paid for the hours they can document that they worked. The district is looking at other staff that can be deemed “non-essential” for layoffs. The email from TEA that went out a couple of weeks ago said not to worry about funding. Now the district says they are getting hurt on funding. I don’t know what the real story is but the shit storm seems to be heading our way. I will say that contract employees (teachers) seem to be safe for the moment.
  23. Pflugerville has a ton of international residents. Could easily see it spreading there due to their travel as well as family visiting. Used to teach there....it was like the United Nations.
  24. Heard that a BMW dealership was doing a lease special and a ton of people got it there.
