  1. Many good recs here.....I'll add a few: Spend some time in Galway....not only is it a great base for exploring the Burren and the Connemara, but the town is basically Ireland's version of Austin (imho). The downtown area has a lot of good pubs and several feature traditional Irish music (trad). Generally, the Western side of the island from Kerry up into Donegal has better trad than say Dublin and Galway is a great point to start. Only downside to Galway (and the West of Ireland in general) can be the weather.....tends to be wetter and cooler than say Dublin and the Southeast of Ireland. If you really want to do the medieval banquet thing, the one at Dunguaire castle just south of Galway is much smaller and has better food than the massive one at Bunratty castle. Speaking of Bunratty Castle, if you have kids, that is a great place to spend a half day. Mine loved the castle and walking the grounds. Bunratty is right outside Limerick, which can be a good stopping off point between Kerry and Galway (or Cork and Galway). Cork is cool city to spend a day in. Go to the Franciscan Well Brewery.....they are churning out some good craft beer. Even if you can't get to the brewery, most places in Cork have some Franciscan Well on tap. Also, the distillery where Jameson (and several other brands, like Redbreast & Green Spot) are actually distilled is in Midleton, which is probably 1/2 hour drive from Cork City Centre. Between Cork & Dublin, there are some good spots to stop. The Rock of Cashel (in Cashel, County Tipperary) is a cool old church fortress and Cashel is a nice little town. If you hit the rock, stop in for a drink or some food at Feehan's pub which is just a block or 2 from the parking for the Rock. Spent some time there watching hurling and rugby with the locals. Kilkenny is also a cool little town further up that has a cool vibe to it.
  2. People to this day are still stunned that this song was not written by an Irishman, but by our very own Steve Earle.

    Power Pop

I think this is a nice little piece of power pop...heard it on my play list this morning:
  4. I don't care about Brody. I was up on 96th Street today, there was a kid couldn't have been more than ten years old. He was asking a street vendor if he had any other bootlegs as good as Death Blow. That's who I care about. The little kid who needs bootlegs, because his parent or guardian won't let him see the excessive violence and strong sexual content you and I take for granted.
  5. I love these posts too....saw a few of them on our neighborhood Next Door. If someone started ranting like that in front of me, I'd calmly remind them that there is a danger far greater to that class of individuals they are trying to save....it is called lightning and thunder, which occurs 50-100 times a year and is far louder and brighter than any fireworks and to let me know if there is someone who could rectify that complaint.....
  6. My brother was in the Cayman Islands a couple of weeks ago and brought this back. It is a nice sipper, aged in bourbon barrels that they sink to a depth of 7 Fathoms (hence the name). If I handed this to you without telling you it was rum, you'd probably think it was whiskey.
  7. I remember him doing the same at KLBJ back in the late 80's early 90's....he was always with "Rick the Bass Player". Pretty sure it was Rick Danko of the Band and I think they were touring around with Ringo Starr and the All Starr band at the time.
  8. It feels so good to be back here at the Dexter Lake Club. We gonna do a little number for you called "Shama Lama Ding Dong"......so hit it! Greg Honey......is it supposed to be this soft? Some of the Omegas did a little dance on my face Who was it? Oh it was Greggie, Dougie, and some of the rest of the Hitler Youth.

    Great f'in song......
  10. On a similar tangent to the above, but a completely ludicrous idea..... https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/ucla-to-the-acc-bruins-mega-booster-reportedly-advising-ucla-against-re-upping-with-pac-12/
  11. Say what you want about Chris Simms but he did pilot a couple of Aggie assbeatings during his tenure here -2000 and the aforementioned game above stand out.
  12. Definitely an attempting at trolling the ag fanbase. Here's a more recent picture of Mr Goodman:
  13. Earliest role for "The Janitor" from Scrubs and Mike Heck from The Middle.
  14. Think you are trying to connect the wrong data points. The rodeo is not and will never be the problem. Now shitty ownership and no Super Bowls...you might be on to something there.
  15. Hey bartender....Jobu needs a refill!
  16. This is going to be quite the show down on Kirby. There isn't a professional sports team in more dire need of a change in ownership than this one.
  17. Probably why Abbey Road is my personal favorite Beatles album....the Harrison influence with Here Comes the Sum and Something was stronger on that album than say Sgt Pepper. Amazing to think that Harrison's solo career wasn't great. Other than All Things Must Pass, which is a great album, none of his post-Beatles solo stuff was great. I did like the Traveling Wilbury's though. Some of Paul's bass work for the Beatles is pretty intricate and hard to play on a traditional bass. Believe he used a shorter neck Rickenbacker bass which made it easier to play some of the intricate parts. At least that's what one of my good friends who is a Beatles nut and a bass player says.
  18. I agree that this is the more likely direction. Pooling of content, which we are already seeing to a degree with what Disney is doing (Marvel, Star Wars, etc.), is the model for the 2020's. I still think that the P5 conferences plus a few extras is likely to create a new football "league" separate and apart from the NCAA whereby they pool all the content together (NFL style) and create new regional divisions whereby the division champions go to the playoffs and there are bowl games for the other teams. That won't necessarily work for the other sports, but I can see certain conferences pooling rights together for basketball and maybe baseball. The current conferences as we know them (with maybe some realignment) would still be the league for all of the other sports and potentially house all of the Tier 3 content.
  19. This is probably the time to remind folks that Connelly's system, at least at the outset of a season, factors in past performance significantly Which means we have both Herman's first season plus some Strong suckitude factoring in. Case in point - West Virginia. Their preseason rank of 38 is just behind us and ahead of Iowa State. Yet, they lost their NFL drafted QB, several receivers, and a ton of production, not to mention their head coach. While it is conceivable they could be favored (this is allegedly a betting system, after all) and win by 2 or more points in Morgantown, the system implies this would be a "pick em" at a neutral site and based on what we know about what both teams return, that seems a big stretch. Other eye-rollers: LSU -14......in Austin. LSU will be a tough game and yes they can win in Austin because they have a lot of talent. But.......I'll take LSU fans giving me 14 on the road in Austin any day of the week. Only the really drunk Cajuns (which may or may not include their coach) would offer that bet up today. Again, past history is inflating the number. OU - 16. Don't need to explain this, but the last time OU won by greater than this margin was at the tail end of FUPM Mack Brown era in 2012. Since 2014, the regular season OU wins have been by 5, 5, and 5 and in the Big 12 Championship, the margin was only 12. Any OU fans want to give 16 points on this game right now? Even the Baylor number looks inflated....we have less of a chance to win in Waco than in Ames? Iowa State will be a better team than Baylor this year and Ames is a tougher environment than Waco, where 40%+ of the fans will be clad in Burnt Orange at the Toilet Seat. Plus you have a coach that historically has outperformed the model. Even Connelly acknowledges that with his joke that we will beat OU and LSU, but lose to LaTech and KU. In short, if anyone gives you the O/U on TX wins at 6.7, bet the over. You actually might find some Ags that will do that......to them I say
  20. My 13 year old thinks the same about Billie Eilish.....given some of the other music she thinks is "great", that is a pretty damning indictment.
  21. So I have been meaning to post a few shots (of the over 1000 I took) from trip to Italy in March...hopefully some of you who haven't been to Italy will be further inspired. Here is a few from Rome: Renegade picture of ceiling of Sistine Chapel. Even in March, there was damn near 300-400 people crowded into the chapel which made taking this more difficult (beside the over-observant Vatican Museum personnel). Michaelangelo's Pieta Fontana di Trevi at Night. Also crowded, but able to get close enough to take a pic that looks like no one was there View of the Pantheon in through the Fontana del Pantheon We were actually at the Pantheon on Unification Day, which is March 17th. There was a ceremony inside and there were wreaths and guards on the graves of both Vittorio Emmanuele II and his son Umberto. I'm mostly Irish and Italian, which means March 17th is a culturally important day for me and I have been lucky to be in both Ireland and Italy on March 17th. Again, recommendation for La Sagrestia which is right down the street (< 1000 yards) from the Pantheon. Thanks to Penelope Witherspoon for highlighting this place in her thread More to come when I get around to it.
