Murder rate per 100,000 in Austin from the data provided at the KXAN link above.

Yeah, it's gone up the last few years, but it's not like murder is running rampant. Yes, 2021 will be higher, but I still feel very safe in this town, especially in comparison to other big metros.

Comparing Austin to Detroit and Chicago should not be the bar on whether they are doing well or not. We should compare ourselves to past performance IMO or at least similar cities that exist in similar parts of the country.

Maybe it exists but it would be interesting to see the crime rate broke into smaller chunks (neighborhoods, zip, areas). Saying the city if safer overall is great but in reality it might be way worse off in you live in 78702 versus 78703.

Not going to argue with you at all about the conditions that you describe.  Just one big question, though.....Prop A is 100% a response to the "defund the police" debate.  A movement that in Austin, did not start in earnest until mid 2020.

When did crime in Austin begin its current climb?  Was it AFTER the "defund the police" movement, or before?  And a follow-up question.....if it happened BEFORE, I'm curious how we blame the "defund the police" movement for it.

For extra credit -- has violent crime increased NATIONWIDE?  And for that matter, what do we mean by "violent crime?"  Because we have seen an increase in homicides....but an actual decrease in other violent crimes, like rape.

I definitely don't have this data nor do I plan on crunching the numbers. Based solely on Murders the biggest increased happened in 2020 and even more in 2021 so it does seem to support that.

Is there a lot more to Prop A then requiring a certain number of officers per residents? That by itself seems reasonable in pushing the city to at least increase it's presence. There are likely way better options but it's not like anyone else on the council or mayor is out there trying to fix things. Instead they are lying to use through fake crime number using (per capita or only counting crimes prosecuted versus reporting) Plus since you no longer can call 911 how would you even accurately count reported?

Shocked to see so many Yes Prop A in my NW ATX neighborhood, not usually the style.

Guess the constant theft, vandalism and increased burglaries finally hit home.

Anything neighborhood west of Mopac looks pretty pro Prop A based on yard signs.

i'm against Prop A simply because the bullshit lying tactics. that and fuck the police.

You can say that about both sides. Are we really supposed to believe that we will lose our libraries and parks if Prop A passes. We can spend 175K per homeless person or 10B on light rails that do nothing, but if the police get a few extra hundred mill everything will collapse?

I bet it fails 53-47. It’s not like APD is some beloved institution and enough people will see this as the dumb solution that it is whether they thinks it’s a problem needing fixin or not.

Is there a thread that is going deep on discussing Prop A? I'd love to learn a bit more than what I see on the campaign signs. There is no doubt the police have their issues but it's also not even a question that crime in this city has risen dramatically and the fact that everyone is now told to just call 311 and expect a wait for anything that's not an active felony in process is insane.

Sounds like a battle between having your house burn down vs having your shit stolen.

The odds of needing police versus needing firefighters is significantly higher so if just based on that I would think it passes. It is quite interesting to see the different by neighborhood that are all opposed or for.

Except for my BTC ledger wallet I won't touch. It's my lockbox account I started back in 2017. I only add to it my 2nd largest holding is also SOL. Dumped 80% of my ETH 1.5 weeks ago and switched to SOL. I had probably 10% SOL in my shitcoin portfolio but now it's fucking 50%. It's a high risk move but I think it has more upside potential short and medium term than ETH. Other holdings in no order. CRV, FTM, SHIB, UNI, ETH. I have been already taking some profits off on a few of these and convert to BTC. I'm hoping for a huge alt run but won't be caught with my pants down.

$SOL on a run for sure... $POLY has been letting me down.

My personal favorites were Bricco and Mare Oyster Bar.

Bricco claims to have invented the Esspresso Martini, it's a good spot.

I like Monica's in North End

    Thanks!

Any other off the beaten path things I should see in a 1 day trip.  I've been before and done the big things like the Trail and Old North Church, Revere's house, etc.  Just curious if there's something that's quick to get to but not what the tourons go to all the time.

Is there a "favorite" bar you have in that area?

Sit at the bars in those restaurants or head over to the wharf / seaport for better bars IMO. Rooftop Bar at Envoy Hotel is a nice scene if the weather is ok.

Bell in Hand is a cool old bar near the North End. As for Chinatown, China Pearl used to have awesome Dim Sum but I haven't been there in years.

Bell is Hand is super bro Thur - Sat nights. It is an old bar but it's packed and rowdy if that's not what you are looking for

UpEquity, a digital mortgage company that makes cash offers on a buyer’s behalf, announced today it has raised $20 million in equity funding and secured $30 in debt financing.

S3 Ventures led the equity raise, which brings the startup’s total funding haul since its 2019 inception to $77 million, with $29.15 million of that in equity. Next Coast Ventures, BP Capital Management, Alumni Ventures, Gaingels, Launchpad Capital and Early Light Ventures also put money in the round.

There are many digital lenders out there (Better.com being among the higher-profile ones). And there are also many companies that will make cash offers on behalf of buyers. But there aren’t many that do both.

topshot down for like 8+ hours for "unexpected maintenance" without any updates the night before opening night of the NBA season is a bad look

Damn. So I had created a TS account for my son so he had a few early moments to sit on but I've just triggered the Identity check. Since he's not 18 he can't technically have an account but it's now locked. If I add my identity i'm guessing it would deny it since I already have my own account. Any ideas on how to get around this?

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but with my RXMD bag, but it's going to leave a big mark.  Not sure how the furk I ended up with 135,000 shares of this POS, but here we are.

Still holding out hope that AMY gets acquired.

My BE on $RXMD is .075 so i'm going to hold and hope we can get there in the next few months. I am buying some $GTLB today as I think that has some solid upside.

  12. Ouch. My avg is .7 will keep holding but make sell a bit if we get a little bounce near that and avg down if we go sub .5

Between that IBRX and UUUU it's the smallest however so if those take off I'll be in good shape.

high serial ray allen.  not good, not terrible.

High serial Kirilenko, awful. My buddy got a Lebron and had another guy I know get a 2 digit Nash.

But even the shitty WNBA ones have a $150 floor so I should at least be able to sell for more than the pack.

Top Shot's Run it Back priority queue 1 has 6,000 packs for sale. I'm #6,006 in the queue.  :(   Hopefully 6 people fail to buy.

EDIT: I was able to secure a pack. And the run it back moment was Danny Granger from his rookie season/first game. Also a bad serial #. Not exactly what I was hoping for: low serial # with AI, Shaq or McGrady.  Still Granger was in the last run it back, and those are selling for $500+.   I was also able to get a few archive moments with the pack.

I was going to jump in the PQ2 but I guess there was technical challenges so it's been postponed until probably tomorrow. Reminds me of TS circa March/April

Good on you for making money with the swing trades. Having said that, UUUU is going to spike like a mofo and you do not want to be on the sidelines when that happens.

I love the thought of this

Giant news that Coinbase is going to join the NFT space. A guy joined the lazy lions discord channel and from all appearances works for Coinbase on their NFT platform. He could have been lying but seemed to want to engage with the community people. Sounded like they're planning to launch by the end of 2021.

I got on the waiting list. Would be great to see something other than OS and this would be a massive bridge to the NFT world over what exists now. I'd love some way to open up my Topps Baseball NFTs to a broader market.
