  1. Yes, though not intimately. Have been ordering from him for a while. Have had wine with him at the grower’s happy hour at Farmstead — really nice guy. Got the 14 when he realized he had some in inventory
  2. I’m in a Piper state of mind
  3. They are pricey, but you can’t go wrong with Le Creuset or Staub. Last forever, cook evenly.
  4. Yeah — just saw this. Diffie dead, Prine in critical condition. Sad to say I imagine they won’t be the last.
  5. 6. Nope. Both trips postponed by the 5th Circuit
  7. It’s great stuff. Started buying it with the 2015 vintage. This is the first ‘16 we’ve tried, and after a 2-hour decant it’s really nice. Have some 15, 16 and all of the 17 I bought left. Really like Kaplan’s wines — his Arkenstone wines are really good as well. And that’s a crazy good price he paid, considering the cost per bottle from the winery.
  8. Tonight’s offering, courtesy of Sam Kaplan:
  9. That’s exactly what I did. The drippings are all it needs.
  10. Thanks Wow. That sounds awful.
  11. I don’t see a pulled pork thread, so I will Post this here. Decided to do a pork shoulder instead of a brisket today:
  12. Ahh, I’ll bet Delta would be happy to pay for gates at Love Field, and fly empty planes to keep them
  13. DeSano’s is great, and we order from there regularly. Get the meatballs as an appetizer — they are awesome
  14. I know a lot of people really like Caymus, but I’m just going to say it: it’s awful. Unless you like really sweet wine. They aren’t even pretending to make the standard Caymus a top-level wine anymore. The 2018 vintage was in stores December 2019, so they’ve basically stopped aging the wine.
  15. Couldn’t agree with you more on Silver Choke. They’ve done an incredible job getting their wines on every list and selling themselves as premium. And don’t get me started on Caymus (or any Wagner wine for that matter)... As for the bourbon barrel, I’m assuming some winemaker tried bourbon aged in Cabernet barrels and thought doing the reverse would be a good idea
  16. Oh, we hated Dodds throughout (for me, from the mid-80s). I grudgingly acknowledge he made money, but at what cost?
  17. That is incorrect. If you like it, that’s great and I have no problem with it. Doesn’t mean it’s good.
  18. I don’t know what to think about CDC. He gets a pass because those before him were so bad. Perrin was in over his head, and Patterson was a complete fail. CDC is definitely more outgoing and fan friendly than Dodds, though Dodds clearly built a financial empire. I think passing on Oliver Luck was a huge miss.
