L & L bbq is pricey to begin with, so not surprised the tamales were as well. Still ordered them.

Bump. I started this thread soI could see if it was worth watching. We are now on Season 4 (we mix in other things). Awesome. My wife and Both love it. Great characters, great writing. Just sorry there are only 6 seasons...
  3. And your point is?

Pre-ordered Christmas tamales from Leroy & Lewis -- barbacoa with red chile, pork with green chile. Sounds great, will let you know how they taste

It doesn't taste that great young, either
  6. Agree with you on that -- the food itself (other than a few items) didn't seem to be anything I'd really want.
  7. It wasn’t “foodie” food — it was “country” Kentucky food. Think of going to a church dinner in East Texas — lots of really good comfort food, not haute cuisine. The idea was they were supposed to take the concepts and elevate them to “foodie food,”. Black team failed miserably.

Jack Allen's in Austin has a fried beef rib on the regular menu. Comes with green chile gravy. And a side of stents.

Agree on wine with age (and with the crazy prices on new releases). Problem is it is difficult to buy wine with age in Texas. I buy library wines when wineries hav ethen available. Winebid is great, but no shipping to Texas.

Thought of a couple of others — Ladera and Heitz. Right at $50

Catena Alta Malbec runs right at $50, and is good Honestly, hard to find a really good Napa cab for $50. Hall (the basic Hall cab) is 50-ish, as is Stag’s Leap Artemis. Both are OK. Daou Reserve (Paso Robles) is a little over $50, and not bad.

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs or Rose —about $75 bottle. It’s a eally good NV champagne. I always keep a few bottles on Honda because it’s really hard to beat for the price/quality combination

  19. Try Restaurant Rebirth in the Warehouse District. Check the reviews...
  20. Unfortunately, few choices on my side of town. Choices for breakfast tacos are Rudy’s or Torchy’s. Not really anything different for lunch or dinner either except full service places.
  21. That was the point of my post. At the Lakeway store at least, it was a thick corn tortilla, not the usual one that falls apart, and a fresh flour tortilla, not one from a bag.
  22. Last trip to Torchy’s was just 2 weeks ago (Anderson Mill location in Austin). Usual crappy tortillas. Went by the Lakeway location tonight, where I’ve been many times. Got home and opened the foil — to find a (seemingly) freshly=made, thick griddled flour tortilla on one taco, and a thick tasty corn tortilla on the other. Have they finally decided to get rid of the cheap ass tortillas?
