  1. Jake Majors is an interesting name there.
  2. Was hoping Collins and Carter would look at what extra years did for Sweat, Coburn, and Ojomo and decide to come back. Maybe they still will. Was hoping for Murphy too but I know that's a huge stretch at this point. Jake Majors may just be tired of football, he can't be seriously considering declaring for the draft. It's not a legally binding contract. There's often a guy or two that do it and either change their mind, or are unsure at the time and want to be sure they get that moment. Christian Jones and (I think) Tvondre Sweat participated last year. Coburn did the year before.
  3. Okay, but how do you answer the simple question of who would beat who outside of a committee or computer rankings? Besides, by this logic Texas vs FSU isn't even a CFP debate, it's the Fiesta Bowl or something. Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon are your CFP teams here and you could entertain Washington.
  4. My initial reaction is that this is normal at this stage so I went and looked at historic CFP rankings. Last year at this point there there were four unbeatens, 1-loss Clemson and USC, and a 2-loss LSU that had played its way into consideration. 2021 had unbeaten Georgia and Cincinnati plus six 1-loss P5 teams. Skipping 2020 bc COVID, 2019 had three unbeatens and six 1-loss P5 teams. 2018 had three P5 unbeatens, unbeaten UCF, and 5 1-loss P5 teams; and again a 2-loss LSU was hanging out in the top 7 for some reason. I don't think there's anything particularly special about this year.
  5. Well it looks like you didn’t mean to say you *wanted* to avoid the playoff, so I don’t think the aggy bit applies. “If” is an important word
  6. Well I said I don’t think it is enough to make up for the H2H, but Ole Miss and LSU are better wins than K State and OU/OSU. The logic gets a little circular here but Georgia is as at least as good of a win as the Bama win. The loss to Texas isn’t as bad as Texas’s loss to OU. Everyone else both teams have played are not worth mentioning. Average to bad. I think in a blind Team A vs Team B without the context of head to head, you lean Bama. But of course, H2H very much happened and Texas should get the nod if the chips fall that way.
  7. Define “okay with.” If Texas goes 12-1, wins the Big 12, and is #5 looking up at 4 undefeated champs or 3 + 12-1 Oregon; as it stands today it’s hard to argue Texas is a top 4 team in that scenario. Should have gone for it at the end of the OU game, tough shit. Still unequivocally a great year. Anyone thinking that is underachieving and would not take that result is crazy. The only plausible playoff scenario Texas would really have a legitimate gripe on is Alabama beating Georgia and vaulting over Texas for a spot. Honestly Alabama would have the more impressive body of work and if Texas’s signature win were over another team at the same rank I’d favor Alabama; but fuck that shit, it was litigated on the field in a two score game. If you mean you’d rather miss the playoff because you would rather win a NY6 (not a guarantee) as opposed to playing a CFP semi as a likely underdog, yeah that is dumb aggy nonsense. You want to compete for a championship.
  8. And buying out the current ones/hiring new ones for the secondary. Sark will have three years left on his deal after this year. I don’t think you extend at this juncture honestly but I understand the potential negative recruiting implications. If for whatever reason you feel like your hand is forced I think you offer a modest two year extension to get him back to five years. An AAV increase perhaps but not at the $9-10MM top of the market range. If Sark wants to pass on that and bet on himself thinking he’ll be in a stronger position after next season then he can make that call. Also have to give props to Sark for going 5-0 on the road. Given his past road issues - which include some atrocious exhibitions of coaching - I didn’t trust that he would have the team well enough prepared to pull that off. Alabama win is obviously impressive and has been beaten to death, but it’s also worth noting that back to back November road wins in conference is never easy, even if the opponents are mediocre. Credit where it’s due. Even if nothing else comes out of this year that’s tangible growth.
  9. I said in the game thread that I think 13.5 is a big spread for a team with a knack for ending up in one possession games. I was thinking it’s either a huge win or a loss but the more Inactually think about it I just don’t think that’s who this team is. Like my pick for the ISU game I think Texas wins if they just get past 24 and don’t gift Tech points with bad turnovers or in the return game or whatever. It is hard to envision Texas not getting over that hump at home. Texas wins scrappy again. Texas: 30 Tech: 23 Total Passing: 587 yards.
  10. Since Ewers got hurt my positions have basically boiled down to: BYU: “Don’t care that they are 5-2 and Texas has a backup, BYU sucks and Texas will roll.” KSU: “Probably too much to ask of a shaky new QB to beat a pretty good team.” - which was dead wrong and then dead right and then wrong again when KSU fumbled the bag. TCU: “TCU will score, Texas will be in trouble with Murphy, fine with Ewers.” ISU: “These guys are not that good and Texas will be fine.” And now Tech: “Tech is a little better than their record indicates at face value and a two TD spread seems out of whack for a team with a penchant for playing close games.” Hardly picking Texas to lose. I do spend too much time on here. Really any time on a CFB message board is too much. You had me in the first half, not gonna lie. Coward? lol I’m not about to line up and play. There are no personal consequences for me (okay I did lose $50 taking Texas ML, ISU + 7.5, and the 47.5 over) if Texas wins or loses. My take means nothing. As an aside, if that’s a mainstream line of thinking on ISU then that’s terrifying.
  11. They were never going to let UCF in the playoff. They will not be leaving an undefeated power 5 champion out.
  12. Oh come on. How are you going to talk about aggy dipshittery and then say not making the playoff might be better than making it?
  13. Definitely. Although I have to say, I finally got around to watching the condensed version of the ISU game (couldn't catch it live) and honestly came away from it thinking Texas played pretty well overall. Obviously some things you'd like back but it was the best full game of football Texas has played in several weeks. ISU is simply better than I gave them credit for. Becht can play - now some of that is the continued poor pass defense from Texas's part but he did have several nice throws. Yes there were touchdowns called back but Texas didn't make the debilitating, self-defeating mistakes that is has been making in recent weeks. If anything I felt a 10-point score line was probably a little misleading. It did not ever feel like ISU was going to be able to score enough to win. To me this really feels like a no grey area game. I fully expect Tech to come out extremely aggressive and play their best game of the year. Either Texas prepares for that, matches the energy, and smokes them; or they don't and things spiral into a loss. We'll see if any lessons were learned form the OU game. If you want to ignore the past two months of football then I agree there's nothing to debate. Don't really know what to say there. Wyoming also tied the game at 10 at the end of Q3 and Kansas trotted out a backup QB who had zero game prep after the starter was a last minute scratch.
  14. At this point I half expect them to say fuck it and send UH and Baylor to Arlington just because
  15. No. This would be extremely aggy. To your last question, they are. The three way tie that Texas needs to avoid is with OU and OSU. Introducing K State to the equation or dropping OU makes things more favorable for Texas.
  16. Me saying the 2023 Texas defense is not the best defense the program has fielded in 40 years because of their deficiencies against the pass is not me saying they aren’t good. You are stupid and weird.
  17. In October and November Texas has one 14+ point win, BYU. Houston, K State, TCU, and Iowa State all got within the 13.5 points. And of course there is the OU loss. Put a 3-6 point adjustment on those as needed for site of the game and only Iowa State changes. Texas just isn’t winning games by large margins and I wouldn’t touch a line that suggests they will, particularly in an emotionally charged game like this.
  18. You can't post this... ... And then this, without noting that third string Jake Strong threw 28 passes (3 INTs) against K State. Tech was down 17-14 at half and actually took a 21-17 lead before turnoverpalooza started. They've shown to be right there with the teams that have beaten or very nearly beaten Texas this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Texas smoked them but a two TD baseline just seems high.
  19. Tech is better than their record suggests. They played a few games with a third string QB, and against Wyoming in the opener I think they got caught taking a decent opponent with a real home field advantage (at altitude) lightly. This is a 6-5 team that could easily be in that 8-3/9-2 realm along with KSU, Kansas, OSU, and OU - I think they are in that second tier of the conference when they've got a QB. They are probably going to fuck another P5 also ran up in a bowl game. Their defense is pretty solid and Brooks is a stud RB. Their offense relies heavily on Brooks, it will be interesting to see if they insist on trying to give him 30 carries or if they take a pass-first approach on offense. The former probably leads to a long night for Tech. Texas is favored for a reason but I think two TD's is a pretty wack number for the line. Tech is going to come and play their best game of the year and Texas needs to bring the preparation and energy to match, otherwise losing is very much on the table. The flip side of this coin is that I honestly think a resounding win, should Texas do that, would be a lot more impressive than it normally would be against a 6-6 team.
  20. Incredible that you've apparently watched ten Texas games and not seen them play pass defense.
  21. I mean no one has been on the outright fire Sark train. Even the most adamant “this guy ain’t it” believers such as myself plainly stated they expected him to last several seasons. Frankly Texas ended up with him because there wasn’t an obvious home run candidate.
  22. Interesting. Hopefully it’s just the first one on Friday and the rest is moot
  23. But this would also involve ties with OSU and/or KSU and head to head isn’t applied between teams that didn’t all play one another. If both KSU and OSU lose then it would just be Texas and OU at 7-2.
  24. I’m pretty sure Texas has clinched the CCG but it’s not being widely reported like it usually would be. Is that a function of tie breakers being difficult to understand or is there a scenario where Texas still misses out?
  25. But they couldn’t and they aren’t.
