  1. For supremely soulful (pork) BBQ check out Archibald’s in Northport, 10 minutes from Bryant Denny: It is mo betta than Dreamland, which ain’t bad.
  2. Jesus God, 6 is so much better than 11 fuckin a.m. As a great coach once said, “There’ll be some snot knockin in the old okra patch that night.” Or something like that. The shades of Royal and Bryant will be roaming around, causing field goals to hook and passes to be dropped. Weird shit will occur. Nobis and Namath will reenact the goal line play from ‘65 Orange Bowl. Many penalties will actually be called (Big 12 refs?). Or not. Horns fans will shower Dallas Turner with Bevo manure. The Minister of Culture will get arrested before the game even starts. 2-7-1. Gotta work on it, Bama. Even it up at least before I croak. Thanks OP for giving us something to visualize.
  3. Tuscaloosa native here and a college football fan since before dirt. If you have time for it, this place (link below) offers an interesting experience which doesn’t involve drunks or barbecue, NTTAWWT. Moundville (15 minutes down AL 69 from Tuscaloosa) is a Mississipian mound complex, major mojo 1,000 years ago. The place has a strong vibe and a decent museum. Descendants of the mound builders and their advocates shut down the UA museum a few years back until more respectful exhibitions replaced skulls and bones. Worth a look for a change of pace anyway. Hope the game is good as last year minus the injuries and controversial non-calls but with the same result. Horns are still 5 up on my guys and we need to get even before I croak. We are hurting at QB. Moundville Archaeological Park – University of Alabama Museums

    Newhart

Loved both Newhart shows. Tom Poston always cracked me up going all the way back to the Steve Allen mon on the street segments with Louis Nye and Don Knotts. In the Pleshette show Tom used to occasionally appear as "Peeper," Bob's old college buddy. During one episode when they got together and talked about the old days, they tried to remember the words of their old college fight song. Tom Poston, in his quiet way, with that slow, thoughtful delivery says: "It was.... 'Something.... something. Rah-rah-rah.' " I just love that shit.

She and a reasonably young Lauren Bacall . . . Mmmm-HMM! Talk to me, baby. Both of you.
  6. The thujone pretender’s whole vibe is lame as shit but this was a damn good likeness of Will Anderson, Amish beard and whatnot. The Jets kid was good. Otherwise, the “show” was meh.
  7. I was not encouraged by what I saw in our spring game, particularly slow QB decision making - holding the ball too long. Texas/Bama has been good football every time out all the way back to 1960 but the feel and flow of this year’s game is a hard call. I know this; September 9 is too fucking early for day games in Tuscaloosa or Austin. Wish the full Texas band could come but TV has killed that. Back in the early 80s Texas opened at Auburn. A friend of mine who attended that game said the Longhorn band march-in took forever as the Boog fans sat there gaping. By the time they played The Eyes the game was over in everyone’s minds. I believe Bo Jackson was on that Auburn team. There’s something extra cool and special about a road underdog coming out with the W, especially vs those Philistines.
  8. SIGNS AND PORTENTS From Saturday Down South, March 30, 2023 Texas A&M baseball streaker at Texas game reportedly a student-athlete for Aggies Texas A&M hosted Texas on the baseball diamond Tuesday evening, but the game was briefly interrupted in the top of the 5th inning after a man wearing a Darth Maul mask, no shirt, and the phrase “Trump 2024” painted on his chest climbed down onto Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park and ran through the infield carrying a sign that read “Longhorns suck” before briefly exposing his buttocks. He then made his way back to the outfield wall, took 2 attempts to clear the fence, and was later arrested on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct/exposure.
  9. Granted, but I spent three years at the Institute on South Main in Houston, which didn't hurt. Contra: I was admitted to that Institute with a Bama public school ejamacation. :-B
  10. And thus came to pass the Ides of March minus one: yesterday’s NYT wordle. God help us all.
  11. Smokey is creeping Debo’s bedroom, moving ever closer to the sleeping giant. Then Debo snuffles. One microsecond later, all you see is curtains gently blowing in the breeze.
  12. Cosi - 1996 Australia // Toni Collette jewel re an out of work guy taking a job as social counselor at a mental hospital, ends up directing Mozart opera Cosi fan Tutti. Rewatched on Amazon Prime after 27 years with Mama Llama and dottir Llama. All enjoyed much much. Waiting for Guffan meets One Flew Over Cuckoos Nest. Toni is delightful, as are many of the loonies. Rachel Gfiffiths and Ben Mendelsohn also in it and other Oz actors you’ll recognize. Well dond feel good story without being sappy or formulaic. Nice change of pace from CGI overdosing. Downside - it’s rent or buy.
  13. Send em all home. Cancel season. Fuck me.
  14. I always liked the French film Nikita, kind of an unexpected action surprise good film, a la The Professional. Luc Besson oui oui. 2 for 2
  15. I’d like to see the Cohens or someone crazy with plenty of guts and money try to put Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian in film. Oooh, baby. That would separate the men (and women, children and animals) from the soon to be corpses. Post Civil War Southwest Semi Zombie Apocalypse. The Judge and his crew would soon make you forget about Anton Chigurh.
  16. Youuuuuu BETCHA Talk about a come hither look Come hither and thither and yonder and over, under, sideways down. Take it away. Mr. Clatner:
  17. This, I sincerely hope.
  18. This will be our fifth new OC in seven years. It's like starting from scratch every year. According to AL.com, one of the names in the hat is Dan Mullen. I always thought he was a damn good OC and QB whisperer, not so much head man. Watching the Gators shit the bed vs UGA last few years does not inspire confidence, though. Horns, Tennessee and LSU coming to Tuscaloosa this fall. It shall be interesting.
  19. Maybe he’ll be the one who achieves communication from the World of Coming Attractions. That’d be just like him. Hope it happens in the middle of a big pharma ad. “Almost . . . (perfect pause) . . . cut my haiiiyyyairrrrrr . . .” I ‘spect he wouldn’t really want to rest in peace, so dear Mr. Crosby, whom I never met but whose musical collaborations helped get me through high school, college, wimmens, psilly this, lysergic that, shakeups and breakups, saludos monfrere, you had that swing and je ne sais quoi. Rock on, motherfucker, a Sixties Soul for Eternity.
  20. Jesus, what a fucking shame. When did people stop using their minds? Why don’t they think? Why don’t they fucking care about human life?
  21. Current PBP and Color: Klatt ++++ Blackledge ++++ Fowler +++ Nessler +++ Gus ++ Tessatore ++ Herbstreit + McElroy + Danielson - Brando - - I don’t have enough recent years screen time with any others. I liked Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles on ABC college games. MNF was okay for a time. I was watching when Cosell reported John Lennon’s death - he handled it like a professional. Awful shit there. Chris Schenkel was my least favorite of that era. He always seemed elated at PATs. There’s the snap, it’s placed down . . . And the kick is . . . GOOOOOOOOD! No shit, Chris, as are 99% of the fuckers.
  22. For ten years or more we honored the A Christmas Story tradition by hiding our 1984-born daughter’s main Santa gift a la Ralphie’s air rifle. It never failed to produce a joyful surprise.
  23. The Year of Hypnotoad is simultaneously arriving and concluding in parallel universes. His laser eyes will dice and slice. His aura will envelop Thurston Bennet Howell, IV, and transport him to Carl’s garage in Caddyshack. Kirby Smart will have visible diarrhea stains all down his khaki breeches. Chaos will reign. Mike Leach will laugh over the P.A. and the Hollywood sign will lift off to the Moons of Meepzor. Frogs uber Dawgs, skrait up. Long live Jambi.
