  1. Broughton wasn’t the best against the run but he showed improvement in that area of his game from the ‘22 season. If Broughton continues to get better then he will set a good floor for the D-line run game. Also, I do not agree with your statement that he doesn’t have passion for the game. The intensity and drive was there. We must have been watching two different teams.
  2. I’d imagine the new head coach wouldn’t want Nansen to come back as the DC. That sounds like an awkward situation for him to handle since he’s not who the players wanted.
  3. Jaws has been good in every decade and it will continue to be that way.
  4. Lulz. Our DB’s can’t even take on an offensive lineman's block without getting penalized.
  5. Not necessarily. The DB could be playing off, buzzing his feet and reacting to AD. The shocking part was he kept retreating into the endzone and I don’t think that is good defense at all. He was still almost 5 yards away from AD by the time AD got to the 2 yard line. The play call was a little different since Ewers was rolling out but the first touchdown to AD in CCG the okie st DB had better alignment and it was still unguardable. Yeah basically. The fade to AD for a touchdown previously was a great throw and catch tho.
  6. I’m going to my grave thinking Mitchell and Ewers were both shocked by the alignment of the corner and they got caught in the middle of trying to figure out what to do. Ewers, while getting pressured, reverted back to the fade and tried to give AD a chance.
  7. They both should have done better and we shouldn’t put the all/most of the blame on either one (not saying you are). The previous corner fade for a touchdown, Ewers put the ball only where Michell could get it and he made a pretty good play to go get the ball. The final play it didn’t work out. What is totally getting lost in all of this is that the entire right side of the Oline did an awful job on the final play. This is spot on imo. Ewers has the ability to take his talent up a notch and become a better playmaker. We’ve seen flashes of it this year with the throw to Baxter that got called back and then the throw to Michell at Iowa st that also got called back.
  8. I believe they were dealing with some injuries and close games are a part of the game. Outside of Michigan, all playoff teams had close games. Ultimately Monday night came down to Penix playing the best game of his life. It was also his highest PFF grade of the year.
  9. Have a feeling on the rewatch it’s going to be clear that he struggled to get into a consistent rhythm. Batted balls, play calling, pre-snap penalties, fumbles, constant pressure..etc make it difficult for any QB feel comfortable. I think with all the things outside of his control he battled, even it wasn’t pretty.
  10. This is it. The play was a fade all the way. It’s almost as if Mitchell were to look back at Ewers earlier than he might have tried to throw it on a line towards the pylon. Ewers was not looking at anyone else. Situational awareness needs to be better between them two.
  11. I agree to certain extent. If Penix plays to the same level he did against us, then there’s nothing Michigans secondary can do. The amount of talent Penix and receiving core has is at times unbeatable. Luckily for Michigan I don’t think what we saw in the Washington passing game is replicable.
  12. I don’t think Sark was completely outcoached last night. He made some mistakes, but nothing unusual for coaches to make. It can be really hard to get something going when you fumble in your own red zone against the team that is doing whatever they want offensively against your secondary. The blue fumble killed us because we were about to score, I have no doubt. DeBoer was trying to manufacture the biggest choke job in recent college football history. The last two offensive drives for Washington were completely inexcusable.
  13. Spotting was also quite confusing. The obvious fourth and one stop we had and they still wanted to do a measurement was dumb. It was a full yard and a half. Then the excellent play made by Barron where he stopped the receiver, a yard short, and they gave Washington first down by full yard. The discrepancy with the little things that add up over the course of the game is what was making me the most angry at the refs.
  14. The Watts penalty for going too low on the lineman was horrendous. There’s a reason it’s rarely called. It has to be super egregious and Watts simply took him on in his upper stomach area. The illegal motion with Sanders and Campbell was also dumb. They held Sorrell once badly and Sweat at least twice badly.
  15. I mean I understand what you’re saying but not running the ball more in the first half was not the reason we lost the game. The defense was never on the field longer than 4:30 minutes, and they had 2 drives consisting of 1:41 and 3 min (TO’s called for the turnover on down’s). The defense was not being gassed by the Washington offense in the first half, that would be the 3rd quarter. Theres nothing Sark can do from the offensive side of the ball that is going to stop Penix from throwing absolute dimes against our poor secondary play. It was almost inevitable.
  16. Uh, it was evident early that the secondary was not going to stop the Washington passing attack. Penix had almost 300 yards passing in the first half but Sark not running the ball a couple more times cost us the game? The fact that we were tied at 21 was almost a miracle.
  17. I’m not sure what AD was doing there. He looked like he was jogging at first and had he turned, Ewers could have thrown a bullet to his back shoulder. The CB was playing off it seems like.
  18. Eh, maybe. It’s anecdotal but I found Surly through social media and I know a few others have as well. I was regularly going through Twitter and Reddit for my Texas fix until I kept seeing memes on Twitter that originated from Surly. Eventually I decided to check this place out and found that it was waaaaaay better than social media. The overall quality of discussion is just something you’re not going to get at the other places. I think if you create the right content then there could be a bridge made to this site. Something as simple as doing more with the Burnt End TE’s through social media would be cool. I like that podcast interviews but I think we could do more to attract a wider audience. I’ve seen it have mentioned getting interns to run some of the social media stuff which could work. Interviews mixed with activity’s are big on tik tok. All age fans would like watching our TE group do a round of golf (or putt putt if it’s more accessible) and have them be interviewed on various topics outside of just football. Let fans see more of their personalities and get to know them better.
  19. As one of the younger users on here, I understand the content struggle around my generation and the ones after. Luckily I was raised a bit old school and picked up a couple books growing up so I don’t mind the reading involved here. I also don’t think there’s a big “gap” between older and younger posters. We all want the same thing for the most part, just that maybe newer posters should lurk more at first to get a feel for the culture of the board and understand its layering. For example, there is a big difference between posting on the football/recruiting threads compared to the movie or travel threads. I think if you want to attract a younger audience, Surly is going to have to be better with Twitter and TikTok. Like immamac and others stated, the attention span on those sites are small and quick to the punch. But I believe for the most part, younger generations like to attach personality to a face. For example, it was absolutely hilarious watching RGBIII shotgunning a beer at 1 o’clock in the morning in the urban thread, then months later him being on national tv discussing Texas and NIL. The same for the Arkansas away game trip. Need more of that type of content that can be packaged and delivered through social media. It would boost the sports side of things but it could also bring more traffic to the travel/food and movies boards. This site isn’t your average message board but on the outside it is which turns off the younger crowd.
  20. I remember in Sarks first year Paul had a weird obsession with the S&C program and he hasn’t mentioned it much since. He still is a better read post game than Boyd by a wide margin tho. I bet the subs that do stay on IT are doing so because of his insight/interaction.
  21. This interaction is the only thing I’ve seen that offers some stuff from the rule book.
  22. That second point is big. In todays landscape, any coach saying otherwise is Dabo or some other narcissistic person. The NIL support allows Sark to have a seat at the table for players/recruits/portal that otherwise would not be attainable. His job is to be the elite recruiter and close the deal. I’m happy to see that he’s honest and upfront about it.
