  1. I’ve been busy at work and did some work when I got home last night and told her I was going to sleep in a little bit today (til 8 am) then go to the office. She woke me up at 6 asking if she could show me this furniture she found that was on sale and asked if we could talk about it when I woke up. I said sure whatever and then tossed and turned for the next 2 hours not really being able to go back to sleep. When I finally got out of bed at 8 she told me about it, etc. I did 30 seconds of research, I found out it’s in store only and there’s not a store within 500 miles. I fucking hate Instagram and Pinterest.
  2. This. I got lucky and didn’t have to learn this from my own experience. My boss did something similar when I was first starting out and warned me about it. So now, I go over to the person and tell them that the rep/customer/whoever not internal is a fucking idiot and then tell that person I’ll reply to their email diplomatically because I know they’ll just forward my email with the bullshit answer of “see below”. I work on the engineering side and I know the dumbass sales people don’t know what the fuck I’m saying they’re just trying to make the sale or get the issue off their plate.
  3. Surprised no one has mentioned the people with gift cards. They acted as if whoever bought them the gift card pre tipped. I’m glad I worked I in service industry during college and learned some valuable life lessons and agree everyone should have to work in the industry at some point. When I go out, I take care of my server and it’s beyond amazing how some respect and good tipping gets you taken care of. Some people fail to realize this and get shit service. Places where I’m a regular, I get way under charged and get the hookup. I also tip my server well. I got to the point where regulars knew my section and my average tip was 34%. I memorized their order and when I saw them pulling in the parking lot I got their drinks and had them at their table before they even sat down.
  4. Another wish item that was mentioned before is I wish they let me wire shit before drywall was installed. I work in building control systems controls and wanted to hard wire my shades for POE controls. Instead had to settle for battery powered. POE would have saved me on battery and quicker response as opposed to zigbee battery power. Small complaint, but being in custom controls is slightly annoying. I’m about to replace all my switches for RF switches so I can do custom programming and have app control over everything, but again I’m stuck with a slight lag. Also want to instal some touch screen keypads, but will be a slight PITA because of the drywall already being up. Just a minor annoyance, but most people can’t tell the difference but I can because of my experience.
  5. I guess I wouldn’t say hate, just worried. Part of it, I found out the hard way, luckily under warranty, is that sometimes they use cheap glue that depending on when installed isn’t best under humidity when they just go buy cheap “glue” to finish the job. I had a guy come back out and reapply the good glue and am happy with it now. Just partially worried it may bite me in the ass later. It’s probably more of a mental block knowing they used cheap glue originally and gave me the perception of “soft” spots. My dog sharpens her nails out of spite and runs all over my floor without scratching but I’m just afraid she’ll find a soft spot and scratch it up. Since they came and fixed it, it feels solid just that mental block knowing I spent good money on it and now just worry it’s a wasted investment. Either way, I highly recommend investing in the Bona wood stuff. After a good sweep and then using the Bona automated scrubber, the floor looks brand new. The only spots I had to use the wood filler on to repair is when the wife wore heels that had the nail exposed and scuffed the floor. Or her brother during move in scuffed something using the dolly when I told him he was using it wrong. Wife found a dent the other day and I asked if she wore those old raggedy heals that day...she said yeah, but “I walked carefully”. Those heals are now in the trash. Told her just buy a new pair. So moral of the story, no floor is wife proof.
  6. Agreed 10000% percent on taking a video before drywall is up. Some of the upgrades we did: -Mortar color -Had outlets installed in roof overhang for Christmas lights and for mounting a tv outside -Expanded covered patio -Natural gas hookup on patio...Has been by far my favorite upgrade -Engineered wood floors...looks good, but feels “soft” and I’m worried about potential dents later on. -Upgraded counter tops that have a rounded wave type finish on the edges. Minimal cost and makes counter look bigger and more refined. -Faucets/shower heads in bathrooms -Had power outlets and cat5 wired to wear I wanted to mount TVs -Removed stovetop/cooktop and added a separate gas cook top with storage for pots beneath it and then added a real vent hood. Then moved microwave and oven to be stacked at a normal height. -Added under cabinet lighting -Had a bar built in downstairs. Was going to do that 3rd party, but wanted cabinets and counter to match. Plus they gave us a really good price on it. -Farmhouse sink There’s things we wish we did like adding garage space, adding a sink in utility room, but it’s our first house so we learned some lessons. They prewired all lights for fans as well, but only some rooms came with ceiling fans but they wanted a ton of money for something I can myself for a lot cheaper. Agreed on closet/pantry shelves. They went cheap, but I’m going to redo the way I want anyways and do it for a lot cheaper. They were asking a ton of money for that. As far as rolling upgrades into your mortgage, I strongly disagree. We strongly believed that if we wanted upgrades, it was something we should make sure we had the means to afford and not pay interest on “wish list items” that we didn’t really need and just simply wanted. It also made us consider “do we really need that?” When going through the design process. It just helped put things into perspective, especially because it’s easy to get carried away at the design center.
  7. I bought a pair of Ray-Ban polarized wayfarer shades 5 years ago. I wear them daily and have beat them up pretty good. When I clean them up, they look brand new. Best pair of shades I’ve ever bought. I had a couple pairs of Oakley’s previously and by far love the Ray-Bans more. As far as the “polarized make it hard to see digital screens” I’ve never had that issue. Just look at your phone screen straight on like a normal person and you won’t have an issue.
  8. Surprised it took this long to make it official. I was under the impression it was pretty much a done deal.
  9. Your tv requires power, so get a splitter and plug into same outlet assuming it’s behind the tv already. If power has already been run behind the wall just cut a small hole and run the fish tape along the existing wire and plug into those cabinets. I had power outlets and Ethernet ports installed where I wanted to mount my TVs prior to moving in so I didn’t have to deal with that. There’s one tv, where we have the modem and router installed where I had to snake the wires behind the wall and into an outlet behind the entertainment center. There’s tons of kits to make the hole cut outs look good and make it easier to run additional wires in the future. For the TVs where I just plugged it in to my existing wall outlet behind the tv I just plugged directly into the tv and then just zip tied the fire tv/stick to the existing tv mount.
  10. Yup. I believe Thad Motta was their first choice.
  11. This. When I was a kid, I hated that smell because I was forced to do yard work when I just wanted to go and hang out with my friends. Now I’m a recent first time homeowner and love the smell. After doing some yard and cracking that ice cold beer and smelling that smell is pure bliss.
  12. Literally ran into Emily jones at the ballpark this weekend. She was texting and I was taking a drink of my beer. Love at first sight.
  13. Depends if half of your shit is considered large or not.
  14. Seems to be working relatively normal. However, when I refresh it’ll double show threads under the unread header.
  15. Right. There appears to be a 3rd party app that lets you stream from your non fire tv device to your fire tv using YouTube tv. Or like you said use the browser work around.
  16. I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but don’t buy it until you can pay for it straight up. The smaller jewelers are also more willing to negotiate price especially if you’re buying it up front. I ended up getting it custom made to get exactly what she wanted. Went back to same jeweler and he’s custom making the band as well to interlock with it perfectly. Also is giving us a nice deal on the band.
  17. The ESPN fantasy app. Rolling all the fantasy sports leagues into one app has been incredible.
  18. It appears that there’s an app that you can use to stream through your fire tv.
  19. I run Hulu TV on my Fire TV and Fire Sticks and love it. There were some lags at the beginning of football season, but by mid season it was running smooth. I may try out DirectTV Now, just for the sake of getting the free Apple TV next time they run that promo.
  20. The Kirkland branded scotch and whiskey are by far the best bang for the buck. Please please let them sell that shit down here. I always pick up a couple of bottles when I'm up north.
  21. When my server makes eye contact with me and just a simple head nod to bring another beer while they're walking through the section on the way to another table. It's a nice attention to detail to notice my drink is low. It's an automatic 25% tip minimum.
  22. He left Tenn to join Beard at UNLV and then followed him to Lubbock. I believe he was the lead recruiter for Culver and Zhaire.
  23. Forgot all about this app, would like to join back in. TTU13.
  24. It sounds like Cross was fired with the intention to hire Ogden. UTA AD was sitting behind Tech bench at AAC for the tourney.
  25. Occupancy sensor switches in small closets and laundry room. Qmotion automated shades. About to integrate with the Legrand/Vantage InFusion Controller with the RF switches so I can set scenes throughout the house and use the switches to control the lights/shades in individual rooms. I'll eventually add the touchscreen switch to control the shades, lights, audio, check weather and whatever else features they add. Honeywell smart thermostats. Liftmaster MyQ for garage. Alarm system. Smart TVs, Apple TV, Amazon TV, etc About to install PoE cameras. A coworker of mine programmed majority of his house using a Tridium JACE. I was beyond impressed looking at the station copy and seeing how he incorporated all the different protocols. Surprisingly the soon to be wife has been very receptive to the technology.
