  1. Never heard of the song, nor the artist, but he's got merch to sell. I'm not much of a hat guy but... https://www.jacknelsonband.com/product-page/love-your-neighbor-red-hat-replacement?srsltid=AfmBOop8a0k4MC_eVvB9tx8St0XXLXOmZj4mNVHuxwfTEKEPWTadM8VQ
  2. I lived it. The '80s in the Permian Basin were bleak. It was also like the *rapture* with classmates disappearing left and right, never to be heard from again. We also had our own real-life rapture scare running wild through town among certain evangelical groups during the middle of fucking football season for chrissakes. There was this one cute, freckled chick who needed reassurance and comfort, which I was happy to provide after her ordeal.

  4. NYTimes's update has details about the facililty: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/24/us/dallas-texas-ice-facility.html?smid=url-share The building that was targeted by a gunman early this morning is the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Dallas field office, a facility that is part office building and part processing center for immigrant detainees. The majority of the building is used by ICE employees for administrative work, with desks and cubicles for deportation officers. Some immigrants who are not detained will also appear here for things like check-in appointments or to post bond. The other part of the building is used to process detainees who have been arrested and are being booked into ICE custody. The shooter, a sniper who opened fire from a nearby rooftop, fired indiscriminately, including at a van in an entrance area on the side of the building where the victims were shot, the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement. An immigrant detainee refers to a person in the custody of either ICE or U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Detainees at the Dallas ICE field office, where the shooting occurred, are typically in the process of being booked into ICE custody or transferred elsewhere. Detainees are not housed at this building long term. Detainees who are brought to the building will undergo fingerprinting, a biometric screening and any necessary paperwork. After, they will either be released or be held in the building’s β€œhold room,” a small waiting area with three or four cells where immigrants who are awaiting transfer are held. Most detainees will spend less than 24 hours in the building. More than 8,400 people have spent time in the hold room at the Dallas ICE field office since President Trump took office, according to data from the Deportation Data Project through July. The hold room has held, on average, about 55 people a day who are awaiting transfer to a long-term ICE detention facility. Eric Folkerth, the senior pastor at a Methodist church in Dallas, spends time outside the building regularly as a leader of an interfaith prayer vigil that takes place there every Monday. The vigil is typically silent, Rev. Folkerth said, and attendees hold signs demanding justice for the detainees. Rev. Folkerth condemned the shooting. From the beginning, he said, his group has prayed both for immigrants and for ICE agents, β€œthat they not cause moral or physical harm to themselves and others.”
  5. Yes, I do realize that and thought I was providing additional detail to your post. Probably just poorly worded, as I was jumping from topics. You’re right, of course, in this one as well. Again, adding to this post, I looked it up and the UK paid Β£20 million to its colonial slaveholders as compensation during the 1830s when the slaves were freed. According to this site, that comes out to roughly Β£32.5 billion today, or roughly $43.7 billion. According to the US Treasury, we spent $5.2 billion on the Civil War, coming out to $103 billion today. We also lost 750,000 souls. Man, it sure would've been a lot cheaper to do the right thing in the first place.
  6. I stopped midway through the second episode because I was getting stressed out and pissed off. Currently, I'm waiting for others to weigh in and let me know if it's worth continuing.
  7. Yikes. I graduated from a small-town Texas HS in 1989. That's a first for me, and there *are* miles and miles of cotton fields as far as the eye can see, starting on the north side of town. Inside-Out Day? Check. Funny socks? Check. Slaves? Yeah, we didn't have that one. Jesus, I think we forget how little still hadn't changed culturally by the time we reached that age.
  8. Thanks. I'm only going off what I've seen published on legit news sites like NYTimes, the AP, etc., by googling that name, which certainly isn't exhaustive. I don't think I've visited the CNN site in quite a while.
  9. I've only seen that name posted in the NY Post, The Economic Times, and a few other Indian sites. Absolutely nothing elsewhere, despite it being repeated in DT. Like I said over there, I found someone by that name on FB who looks like he's roughly the right age, but there's absolutely zero political content that can be seen in public. Just some baby and family photos. If you have a decent source, post it. Edit: Let me also add for those who haven't been over there, the guy has a photograph showing the City of Anna on it, so he's from the Metroplex.
  10. And that, my friends, is how the Overton window keeps shifting reichward.
  11. Btw, I looked for an official source on the shooter's name and came up with bupkis so far, other than the NY Post, The Economic Times, and a bunch of Indian sites, all very questionable. The only credence I'd give to the NY Post would be its ties to the regime.
  12. I'd still like to know where two-thirds of the 1,800 people forced into the concentration camp in the Everglades were disappeared to when it was shut down.
  13. Of all the European empires, I believe it was only the Portuguese who abolished slavery in its colonies after the US. The French, Spanish, English, and Dutch all abolished it well before the US throughout their empires. The fact that they didn't allow that "peculiar institution" in their home countries but "out of sigh, out of mind" in their colonies for a good while longer doesn't negate the fact that they still prohibited it before us.
  14. Found a Facebook account under that name. The guy in the photos looks like he's about that age. Although no location is provided, he posted the photo below of his young daughter about two years ago, which garnered a lot of likes from folks in the Dallas area. Edit: I'll also note that there's absolutely no political content on this profile, but I'm not posting the link to it for obvious reasons.
  15. Sure, yeah, that works too. The point being, your viewership is getting captured by the bean counters regardless.
  16. Out here in the wastelands on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, we got just shy of an inch overnight. #NotNowThis #WellMaybe #FeelsGoodMan
  17. Followed up with the two TikTok chicks. The first hasn't updated yet; probably got raptured and is laughing at all of us who got left behind. The other one posted this last night:
  18. Oh, I'm sure they keep track of what you stream, and that gets captured in whatever calculus they use to measure viewership, as well. For example, I watched the full monologue last night before bed on YouTube. I just checked, and it's now been viewed 9.9 million times in the last 12 hours. They pay attention to that. Further evidence, Kimmel specifically mentioned that folks were going to have to view his show on other platforms, mentioning YouTube specifically, because Sinclair/Nextstar won't air his show.
  19. The front blew through here last night, bringing storms and about an inch of rain. It's an absolutely lovely 67Β°F at the moment with sunny skies and a cool breeze.
