  1. Yeah, I've read that same stuff, but I haven't seen it picked up by any mainstream news outlet yet. Instead, it's been couched as "they weren't able to secure a grant" or somesuch.
  2. I came here to post that article. It's not long, but it's got a few interactive elements to show the topography and flood zone designations, so I'll share the full thing with this gift link. The article also talks about how the camp's recent expansion would've been the time to move those cabins out of there. It's worth reading, because it details the expansions, etc. Still, they include this section: I'd really like to get some clarification on this. Were they "unable" to secure grants or were they "too pigheaded" to accept them? The commissioners’ court transcripts say the latter.

  4. I don't know why any of you are still giving clicks to a Nazi-owned site that promotes racism/anti-semitism and all kinds of other bigotry. It looks like the same thread is on Bluesky. https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:qqixzm5pwprzdnkbh2hglpax/post/3ltk652nanc2a
  5. Is this the same head of FEMA who said he'd never heard of "hurricane season" before?

  7. Done. Thanks for posting this.
  8. Not directly, but by way of Normandy, kinda. Hiberno-Norman on one side (with a good dash of French from 100 years in New Orleans), and a bunch of whatever is filtered through the other northern English/Scottish side, with some German thrown in for good measure—also, possibly some Melungeon from the Appalachian family (2% Senegal). However, I was instead referring more to your oft-cited Swedish stock.
  9. As a man of proud Scandinavian heritage,
  10. That theory doesn't hold any water.

  12. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
  13. One of the tragedies with a lot of stuff (not just Kerr County) is seemingly otherwise intelligent, educated people like Moser behaving like complete dumbfucks when they get into politics. Moser, who was first elected to the Precinct 2 county commissioners seat in 2012, previously had a long career in the aerospace industry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and Ph.D. studies at Rice University. At the NASA Johnson Space Center from 1963 to 1986, he served in key management positions including as chief engineer, program manager of the Space Shuttle and Space Station. Upon returning to Texas from Washington, D.C., in 1997, he served as the executive director of the Texas Aerospace Commission, where he established Texas Spaceport Authorities. https://dailytimes.com/news/county-commissioner-tom-moser-to-retire/article_be0e203a-d83b-11eb-8399-db048532ed79.html
  14. @Gatorubet Looks like you haven't lost it -- you're still that same spry ol' geezer (and I'm actually not that far behind you). Really happy to hear you're okay, man.
  15. Looks like things got too quiet so they were ordered to instigate more shit.
  16. Came across this on Reddit where someone has put together a precise timeline of the floods.
  17. Someone, maybe Troph (not sure), mentioned multiple times that overnight camps are required to be certified/inspected by the State of Texas in some manner. I have no knowledge beyond that statement, if true. But, it would undoubtedly be good to know what that certification process entails, how rigorous it is, and to what degree and how frequently inspections occur. Absolutely no idea (but doubtful) that the county requires any sort of inspection since the State doesn't allow for many regulations of properties outside of ETJs, except in limited circumstances.
  18. Yep. The last few frames on my weather app suggest that most of the energy is heading SxSW toward Junction and Menard.
  19. Those are all excellent questions that I hope are eventually answered. Unfortunately, I can't offer any.
  20. Messed up the order of the prepositional phrases. I added the detail about her staying at camp to clarify that she wasn’t some skeezy townie picking up 8th-grade bandcamp nerds.
  21. I was sent up to a Boys Scout camp up in the Davis Mountains a couple of times (Buffalo Trail Council) and band camp at Tech 2-3 times. The latter was a very different experience, staying in college dorms and whatnot, plus this one time at bandcamp between 8th & 9th grade I got my first blowjob from some Lubbock girl staying at camp under a tree on campus, which was nice. Gotta tell you guys, there's a reason American Pie included that line. Bandcamp kids in the mid-80s were sex fiends.
  22. Yes, it's been mentioned that the campers themselves were not allowed any electronic devices, including phones. At the same time, someone posted an article a day or so ago that also stated every adult on site was supposedly required to have a cellphone with them at all times.
  23. I can't speak for anyone else here, but the locals hosting visitors (owners of the camps, the RV park owners, the city, and the county) are primarily to blame. They live there. They know the history of flooding. They chose not to have a flood monitoring system. They chose not to have a warning system. They chose not to have adequate evacuation plans. On top of that, I blame the state for not adequately funding a regional system, as well as this regime for stripping resources from the NWS. The degree to which any of the campers themselves are to blame is nada. The degree to which any of the RVers are to blame would lie in their potential choices at the ballot box that foster negligence among all layers of government.
