  1. @fattyflattie @slorch The WSJ is the rough conservative equivalent of the NYT as a news source. Now, imagine if someone had posted the exact same headline and story from the WSJ? Do you think anyone (even the many liberals) on this site who also frequent the football board would've outright refused to read it and said any of the following? And we absolutely know why those posters, in particular, dismissed it outright. The source was "liberal". Don't even fucking try to deny it. But, yeah, it's only liberals who are infecting the rest of the board with their hot political takes. That's why this thread exists. And, guess what, I lost my dad because he began to believe all the lies about Covid being "not a big deal" after previously being cautious, so I feel vindicated in every single one I ever gave to that piece of shit.
  2. Former Midland Youth Minister Corey White pleads guilty to child porn charges The 33-year-old former Midland youth pastor could face 10 years max in prison and up to life of supervised released. MIDLAND, Texas — Former Midland Youth Pastor Corey White has pled guilty to one count of knowingly accessing images of child porn with visual depictions of a minor. This happened at a Status Conference/Rearraignment on Wednesday afternoon, which NewsWest 9 attended. White is expected to be sentenced by District Judge Counts on April 4. He could face 10 years max in prison and up to life of supervised release. NewsWest 9 tried to speak with White's attorney once adjourned but he said he’s not able to comment at this time. If you remember, White was indicted by a grand jury of these charges in November and pleaded not guilty at the time, which set up a jury trial for Jan. 29. White was a youth minister at Redeemer Midland, according to members of the congregation, at the time.
  3. I started using the same starting word as NNM sometime in the last year, which generally serves me well. Prior to that, my results were all over the place (not good). I don't ever expect it to be a hole-in-one, but it normally gets me to par (75.5% to date). Since using it, I've really turned it around and am pretty sure the chance of at least par would be well above 3 out of 4 times. Just not today. As a Gen Xer whose first presidential election was in 1992, watching the GOP hate engine really start revving after losing that election was something else. Everyone talks about how Obama's presidency broke the GOP's brain. Maybe so, but if you were paying attention, the cracks began to show in the early to mid-90s. Prior to that election, the GOP had held the presidency for 20 of the previous 24 years (interrupted only by 4 Carter years) and felt that their God-given right to occupy the Oval Office had been stolen. They couldn't stand the thought of not being in power. What was some of the backlash from Clinton's win? Newt Gingrich & the loss of comity in Congress Rush Limbaugh & talk radio Fox News Pat Buchanan & the rise of racist populism/anti-immigrant fervor The militia movement & the OKC bombing Black helicopters & conspiracy theories galore But, yes, 9/11 & Obama's election put the hate engine into full throttle.

I'd tell your teen that she's a fucking patriot for upholding the essential ideal of what it means to be an American: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Anyone acting or speaking against equality betrays the core notion of America. She clearly thinks what she's doing is right. Feed her this as ammo to make her proud of fighting for this damn country and its ideals. After all, it's her patriotic duty to stand for equality.

I called him out on it on the basis that films are distributed globally to a diverse audience, so it's a smart business decision for casting to be inclusive as long as it doesn't detract from the main story.   21. This is a theme I've seen you bring up several times in the past: America is too big and diverse to be governed. I don't buy that, and I question why you keep bringing it up. To me, there seems to be only one group that seems to have a problem living in a pluralistic democracy where everyone should have a say in how it functions. It's true that Democrats operate under a Big Tent with generally agreed-upon principles: a) EQUALITY: Democracy is good/everyone should have a say. Don't be a dick to minority groups. b) EDUCATION: Informed citizens make better decisions as citizens, are more innovative minds, and are better workers. They believe public education is the most efficient and equitable means of promoting those things. c) ECONOMY: A well-regulated economy best serves the country by promoting worker rights, fair wages, and spreading some of the wealth for all. d) ENVIRONMENT: If we don't protect the planet, none of the above matters. Agreement on these broad principles is why Republican presidential candidates rarely win a majority of the popular vote nowadays. They want to advance the broader public good for everyone's advancement. It's a winning platform that multiple constituencies can get behind. The modern GOP, on the other hand, wants to hoard whatever hasn't gone to shit for a few narrow groups to the detriment of everyone else.
