  1. Reed Timmer and crew are driving through Fort Stockton. Pretty good street flooding is going on, and hail is on the ground after the storm went through. They're heading toward a storm with a hook echo.
  2. Thanks, man. I'll check back in a week.
  3. I'd listen to the fuck out of that.
  4. Shorthand explanation Groyper: White nationalists who like to pretend they're not racists by making racist "joke" memes; think Pepe the Frog. Sycophantic: ass-kisser; brown-noser. Tradwife ("traditional" wife): Racist white Gen-Z chicks (and some Millennial ones) who cosplay in feminine garb like 50s housewives and bake shit for clicks on TikTok.
  5. It looks like things are kicking off in Far West Texas, near Fort Stockton and northern Coahuila, just west of Del Rio.
  6. Can someone give me a summary of who's who and what's what? I don't have the patience to wade through the past week of arguments. Is there anything new to this story, or is everything still in the suburban rumormill stage? Who's the cast of characters involved now? Who's swatting the victim's family? Who's the "criminal Armstrong"? Has new evidence become public? Has this whole thing gone completely CR?
  7. Within Texas, it looks like it's mainly staying on the Caprock. New cases: GAINES (Seminole) +15 LUBBOCK +5 BAILEY* (Muleshoe) +2 EL PASO +2 ECTOR (Odessa) +1 MIDLAND +1 * New county

  9. Discussions of a nationwide protest started circulating on social media in late 2024. According to organizer Kay Evert, the movement started on Reddit, with activist organizations eventually joining in.[12] The movement claims it was organized by grassroots activists and spread through social media.[13] The movement used the hashtags "#buildtheresistance" and "#50501", with the latter standing for "50 protests, 50 states, one day".[14] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50501_movement https://www.fiftyfifty.one/
  10. Because that "inefficient" data segregation that keeps different bits of data about you in different agencies protects your privacy. The inefficiency is the fucking point. Say, for example, there's a data breach in one of them. Keeping other private details about you in other places prevents that other information from getting stolen, shared, or even easily abused by a single bad actor within the government itself. Siloeing data in different places protects your red ass in the same way you shouldn't use the same password for everything you do online. Do you really want the entire universe of data about you, your family, your bank accounts, your tax information, or even whether your fucking kid is getting special ed stored in a single place? Here's a taste of the kind of data about you that DOGE is trying to consolidate, making all of this shit very vulnerable (spoilered for length). Maybe taking a little care, spending a little more, or being a little inefficient is worth it when all of this is at stake.

  17. I worked on a planning project for the OKC region around 2009-2010 and was impressed with everything that was going on back then. Bricktown and Devon Tower were both still pretty new, and I recall there were big gaps in the "urban fabric" around both of those. Strengthening the connections between them or enhancing the immediate areas around them was a big theme of the plan. Did any of those areas eventually get filled in? The filling-in part was something that seemed sorely needed for the city, since many of its major "anchors' are isolated from one another. This was especially noticeable coming from Austin, where all those major activity nodes are clustered in the urban core. For the benefit of Austin people, the way they're set up would be analogous to: The Capitol building would be located about where the old Concordia Campus used to be, but a little bit east of I-35. It's basically in a low-density, residential-type area. The Dell Medical Center would be in Austin's Chestnut neighborhood, a few blocks east of Oakwood Cemetery. And the University of Texas campus would be out by Niederwald. Don't get me wrong, though. I did, in fact, like OKC. It's just that all those things being spread out seemed to hold back the downtown area from being a vibrant urban core back then. To make this post relevant to the thread topic, I didn't visit the museum but did wander around the memorial for a while. It is very well done and should be seen by anyone visiting town.
  18. Thanks! I had to run to the airport late this afternoon to pick someone up. It looks like they screwed up the data entry for Midland County in that column, although the totals add up to what they should be. Midland reported a third case yesterday.
  19. I thought he was referring to the two brothers in Eastland County who’ve also been doling out the Christofascist cash to Texas pols.
  20. Here's how I would group them: Fascists Tacit fascists Partisans: Yay, team! Morons: It doesn't affect me, so why should I care? Denialists
  21. Yeah, that's a great example. That thread, chock-full of racism, went 44 pages over in the Daily Texan. Finally! Whiteys are vindicated! https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/7866-looks-like-we-have-another-fake-hate-crime/
  22. That's why so many of them have glommed onto the stabbing. Complete silence about all the other bullshit and injustices going on. But, man, there's a Black kid who stabbed a white kid, and that's one crime they can all rally around and place their confused anger to right their collective consciences.
  23. Yep. After lying about Abrego being a gang member, JBJ is going on ignore. He's just another authoritarian cult member who's willfully drunk the orange Kool-Aid. Not worth my or anyone else's time. I'd say he's useless, but that wouldn't be the truth. He's, in fact, just another fascist tool.
  24. @JBJ The regime manufactured this case with how they’re handling these deportations, and now it’s a Constitutional crisis because they are ignoring court orders. Drop your loyalty to the GOP and pick up your loyalty to the Constitution. You're choosing Party over Country, bud. Take a look at what your Party has become and pay attention to what real conservatives like David Brooks and Bill Kristol are saying.
