  1. Yes, all of that, but more importantly, they wanted to get "cred" from their Facebook friends.
  2. It's a thread in the Football board about a recruit whose last name is Knigga. You can imagine how the jokes are going.
  3. Not just Baby Bush and Perry but also the exalted Reagan and Daddy Bush. (I know you know this - just furthering your point.)
  4. This is kind of a long read, but really worth it. It goes beyond the typical topic of evangelicals getting involved with politics but focuses more on the infiltration of the corrupting influence that politics has on their religion -- in particular -- how Trump is now tearing apart the evangelical movement from within and remaking it as his own. After all, everything Trump touches does die. So maybe we oughta get back to that whole separation of church and state thing, yeah? Because if any of today's leaders match the description of the Antichrist, it's Donald Jackass Trump. Trump Is Connecting With a Different Type of Evangelical Voter They are not just the churchgoing, conservative activists who once dominated the G.O.P. Karen Johnson went to her Lutheran church so regularly as a child that she won a perfect attendance award. As an adult, she taught Sunday school. But these days, Ms. Johnson, a 67-year-old counter attendant at a slot-machine parlor, no longer goes to church. She still identifies as an evangelical Christian, but she doesn’t believe going to church is necessary to commune with God. “I have my own little thing with the Lord,” she says. Ms. Johnson’s thing includes frequent prayer, she said, as well as podcasts and YouTube channels that discuss politics and “what’s going on in the world” from a right-wing, and sometimes Christian, worldview. No one plays a more central role in her perspective than Donald J. Trump, the man she believes can defeat the Democrats who, she is certain, are destroying the country and bound for hell. “Trump is our David and our Goliath,” Ms. Johnson said recently as she waited outside a hotel in eastern Iowa to hear the former president speak. White evangelical Christian voters have lined up behind Republican candidates for decades, driving conservative cultural issues into the heart of the party’s politics and making nominees and presidents of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. But no Republican has had a closer — or more counterintuitive — relationship with evangelicals than Mr. Trump. The twice-divorced casino magnate made little pretense of being particularly religious before his presidency. The ardent support he received from evangelical voters in 2016 and 2020 is often described as largely transactional: an investment in his appointment of Supreme Court justices who would abolish the federal right to abortion and advance the group’s other top priorities. Evangelical supporters themselves often compare Mr. Trump to the ancient Persian king Cyrus the Great, who freed a population of Jews even though he was not one of them. But religion scholars, drawing on a growing body of data, suggest another explanation: Evangelicals are not exactly who they used to be. Being evangelical once suggested regular church attendance, a focus on salvation and conversion and strongly held views on specific issues such as abortion. Today, it is as often used to describe a cultural and political identity: one in which Christians are considered a persecuted minority, traditional institutions are viewed skeptically and Mr. Trump looms large. “Politics has become the master identity,” said Ryan Burge, an associate professor of political science at Eastern Illinois University and a Baptist pastor. “Everything else lines up behind partisanship.”
  5. Sure, it's a little funny - a few quips are expected. But we're now on DAY FOUR of that thread, and they're still going. It's beyond the point of somewhat humorous to being downright awkward to see all these white guys take particular relish in recycling jokes and phrases with the kid's name. It's like they feel they FINALLY have permission now to kinda, sorta say the (tee-hee) N-word.
  6. This whole damn article is enraging and gives much more detail about Trump's behavior than the quotes posted from it.

  14. I got curious about how TxAgs is reacting to this news: https://texags.com/forums/16/topics/3436235 One post stood out:
  15. I agree about seeking quality content. The problem is there are a lot of uninformed, misinformed, or brainwashed posters on this site. Recall that one primary reason this thread exists was the simple citation of the NYTimes for a piece about how NIL changes the nature of college football. The "content" of the article, no matter how accurate or how good the quality (it was decent), was getting drowned out by a gaggle of posters acting like complete dicks because they were triggered by the name of the publication. This is a message board where we often have conversations about the content posters cite. We can't have good discussions if posters react the way that they did, because they hate the NYTimes for political reasons in the FOOTBALL section of the board. Unfortunately, they were largely successful in quashing any back-and-forth about the variations in how NIL is structured among the four football teams in the playoffs. But those idiots will be happy to discuss what a bunch of very biased sports analysts personalities blabber about for an hour on their YouTube channels.
  16. Yeah, stick to this area for reliable reporting, and I think you generally should be safe from bias accusations (at least from any rational or objective person). The interactive version shows many more websites, publications, and TV stations. https://adfontesmedia.com/interactive-media-bias-chart/
  17. They'll find a way to keep him on the ballot, whether legitimately or not, but I don't know what it'll be based on other than "let the people decide" That Postal Service Act language from 1792, specifically mentioning the President was an officer *should* be enough to say the 14th applied to him. Colorado's Supreme Court did a thorough analysis and determined he was engaged in insurrection. SCOTUS justices swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution too, and the 14th is part of that.
  18. That's fucked up. The NSC wasn't notified, Congressional leadership wasn't notified, and senior Pentagon officials weren't notified. I assume Biden was, but this isn't really the time to muck up communication among leadership.
  19. Never said it was centrist, and you're still missing the point. The point was that it was openly attacked, dismissed, and vilified on the FOOTBALL BOARD solely on the false notion that it's some out-of-the-mainstream, leftist publication worthy of scorn. There is a shit-ton of conservatives who allow their politics to infect benign topics and who never dare allow their privileged opinions to be challenged either in here. They just assume that everyone agrees with them; hence, the Overton Window. They don't know how reactionary they actually are. I understand I'm a liberal, and I've never hesitated to post my results from the political spectrum grid. And I've seen plenty of liberals do the same. But I haven't seen hardly any of this board's conservatives post their results (you're one of the few who ever did). Maybe THEY'RE the ones who were ashamed to show themselves as far-right authoritarians. Edit: If you need a refresher on seeing who was actually willing to post their results: https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/11802-the-political-compass-thread/
  20. It's old and I had to look it up -- knew it was familiar but had forgotten all about this happening. https://www.npr.org/2022/04/22/1094273441/marjorie-taylor-greene-is-in-court-as-part-of-a-legal-challenge-to-her-candidacy Basically, her eligibility to run for office was challenged last spring in a Georgia court based on 14th Amendment grounds. Unfortunately, the judge sided with her.
  21. @fattyflattie @slorch The WSJ is the rough conservative equivalent of the NYT as a news source. Now, imagine if someone had posted the exact same headline and story from the WSJ? Do you think anyone (even the many liberals) on this site who also frequent the football board would've outright refused to read it and said any of the following? And we absolutely know why those posters, in particular, dismissed it outright. The source was "liberal". Don't even fucking try to deny it. But, yeah, it's only liberals who are infecting the rest of the board with their hot political takes. That's why this thread exists. Most conservatives seem to have a blind spot about how often they spread their politics all the time all over the board. Fuck, just go into the Lol Pic thread. Right now, there's an altered photo of a woman in a bathing suit to take a shot against trans folks. That kind of shit happens a helluva lot and most often gets a pass. _____________ Let me finally add I think a lot of posters, like Penelope, fling around neg too much, but that's her perogative. My personal rule is to keep them for lies and bigotry. But I do admittedly have a high count because of personal fatwas directed at GRhorn's many sock accounts from when he was actively spreading disinformation about Covid and the efficacy of the vaccine since it was a life/death deal. And, guess what, I lost my dad because he began to believe all the lies about Covid being "not a big deal" after previously being cautious, so I feel vindicated in every single one I ever gave to that piece of shit.
  22. Former Midland Youth Minister Corey White pleads guilty to child porn charges The 33-year-old former Midland youth pastor could face 10 years max in prison and up to life of supervised released. MIDLAND, Texas — Former Midland Youth Pastor Corey White has pled guilty to one count of knowingly accessing images of child porn with visual depictions of a minor. This happened at a Status Conference/Rearraignment on Wednesday afternoon, which NewsWest 9 attended. White is expected to be sentenced by District Judge Counts on April 4. He could face 10 years max in prison and up to life of supervised release. NewsWest 9 tried to speak with White's attorney once adjourned but he said he’s not able to comment at this time. If you remember, White was indicted by a grand jury of these charges in November and pleaded not guilty at the time, which set up a jury trial for Jan. 29. White was a youth minister at Redeemer Midland, according to members of the congregation, at the time.
  23. I started using the same starting word as NNM sometime in the last year, which generally serves me well. Prior to that, my results were all over the place (not good). I don't ever expect it to be a hole-in-one, but it normally gets me to par (75.5% to date). Since using it, I've really turned it around and am pretty sure the chance of at least par would be well above 3 out of 4 times. Just not today.
