  1. Why shouldn't Blue get a heavy load of carries?
  2. Sure, just saying Caserio and the 49ers regime DeMeco came from having drafted smaller quicker interior OL recently, it's typically longer guys
  3. He's much more of a traditional 3-tech
  4. Newton doesn't really fit (small quick DTs) what SF drafted early when DeMeco was there, or what NE/Houston drafted when Caserio was at each spot I think a jumbo edge who can move up and down the line like Darius Robinson or a first step speed rusher like Chop Robinson make more sense

    2024 NFL DRAFT

    17. Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas Height: 6-1 | Weight: 308Murphy is a versatile 3-technique coming off a breakout season (his first as a starter). He's a stout presence against the run, consistently able to penetrate the first level to make plays in the backfield (6.5 tackles for loss and 11 run stops last season). Murphy also has the hand quickness to defeat one-on-one blocks and the lower-body strength to hold up against double-teams. But his greatest asset is causing disruption as a pass-rusher. Murphy recorded a 12.7% pressure rate while at defensive tackle last year, the highest rate in the FBS. 25. Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas Height: 6-4 | Weight: 196After originally starting his career with Georgia, Mitchell transferred to Texas before the 2023 season and quickly became a big part of the Longhorns' offense. He had career-highs in receptions (55), receiving yards (845) and touchdowns (11). And despite being a bigger receiver, Mitchell has impressive vertical speed and the body control to break off routes. He also has strong hands to make catches outside his frame and in contested situations. But he must become more consistent with his release plans against press coverage. 40. Ja'Tavion Sanders, TE, Texas Height: 6-4 | Weight: 243Sanders can be deployed from a variety of alignments. A sure-handed target, he excels in the middle of the field and on specialty plays, recording one drop last season (45 catches) and averaging 15.2 yards per reception (fourth-highest mark among all FBS tight ends). Sanders has made a catch that gained 15 or more yards in 11 out of the 13 games, too. As a run-blocker, he provides minimal value -- his pro intrigue will center on his pass-catching ability. 42. Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas Height: 6-1 | Weight: 172The first recruit that coach Steve Sarkisian signed after being hired at Texas, Worthy is a speedy but slightly built pass-catcher who can create separation in routes. He is the definition of a "sudden-change player" -- a guy who can flip the scoreboard in one play. When he has the ball in space, his speed allows him to gain yards after the catch in a hurry (579 of his 1,014 receiving yards last season came after the catch). Worthy is competitive and physical, too. And while drops have plagued him throughout his career, his drop percentage reduced from 8.8% in 2022 to 4.2% in 2023. 46. T'Vondre Sweat, DT, Texas Height: 6-4 | Weight: 362A massive nose tackle, Sweat is an immovable force at the first level, but he's far from just a gap-plugger. Eating up blocks and allowing second-level defenders to roam free is part of his game, but he's also a pocket-pusher with value as a pass-rusher (two sacks, nine tackles for loss and 22 pressures last season). Sweat is a prototypical 0-technique, as his wide frame makes it challenging for blockers to displace him. He always maintains control at the point of attack, and he has the potential to immediately change a team's run defense in the NFL.He also has Brooks as his RB1, but outside of his top 50

He had issues tracking deep balls and making contested catches, but Worthy played injured for most of his career at Texas

    2024 NFL DRAFT

I wouldn't draft McCarthy in the first, where he'll likely go. He's Mark Sanchez but fast and with an arm. My point was that it's not clear cut who was the better college QB between the two. I wouldn't state that one was better than the other as fact. Purdy put up counting stats as a four year starter. McCarthy didn't as a two year starter who only played a handful of games where he actually was tested and had to throw the ball a lot, but he did come through a few times in big moments in big games with NFL level throws and with his legs. Overall the metrics have McCarthy as the better college player, but he got to play on easy mode most of the time

Iowa State's success was in large part due to a DC who revolutionized anti-spread defenses in college, and stumped most of the big twelve offensive brain trusts for a few years

    2024 NFL DRAFT

There isn't a perfect metric or stat for QB play. Most QB stats and metrics are influenced by the offense and surroundings as a whole, and grades that seek to isolate the QB like PFF rely on someone trying to understand the QB's full job, including pre-snap checks and understanding the progressions he's coached to do, and no one is probably truly qualified to do that outside of the football team EPA based metrics (QBR), or ones similar (DVOA) are probably your best bet, while also having PFF handy as a cross check I think Purdy and McCarthy's situations were so different that it's difficult to compare, although I'm fairly certain that traditional box score scouting isn't the best way

    2024 NFL DRAFT

It's an EPA based metric. When numbers don't match what you'd expect from looking at a box score, it likely means someone did better or worse on 3rd downs than you'd expect from the box score. How you perform on third downs matters in football.

So we should be looking at W/L to rank QBs?

    2024 NFL DRAFT

Exactly. It's an EPA based metric that takes game context into account.

He was #3 in the nation in QBR, and had big NFL level throws in big games that were critical in those victories

    2024 NFL DRAFT

Based on what? Cumulative counting stats that included a lot more interceptions? McCarthy's metrics were better, and he had these: https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401551786/alabama-michigan https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/_/id/194/ohio-state-buckeyes

    2024 NFL DRAFT

I don't think this is clear cut, and their situations were so different that it's difficult to compare. JJ did his job, which was to not throw interceptions, to use his legs on a couple of key third downs a game, and to make ~2 NFL throws per game. His QBR was much higher than Purdy's, but again, they had different jobs.

    2024 NFL DRAFT

He also only had to make a couple of passes a game for his team to win. He’s a more toolsy Mark Sanchez at this point
  23. Cam Williams could potentially flip to the left side too
