  1. [citation needed] Seriously though, I don't want to CR it up and want to keep it at the minimal level possible here while pointing out the connection may exist. I think it was a lot of factors, but you can't have an openly MAGA type guy recruiting kids to Austin in this environment. It would turn off way too many parents and recruits and reflect poorly on the university at the university presidents level. I am happy he's gone because he's an asshole and a fucking terrible coach, but I can understand why Hartzell wants to keep MAGA stink away from high profile university positions as much as possible. Whatever reason it takes people to go over the HC's/AD's head and nip the Mike Stoops hiring in the bud is fine by me.
  2. Tbh it's way more than the rivalry. If Bob was hired onto the staff I wouldn't be complaining at all. This is purely a Mike character problem issue. I do also doubt the reporting and don't think Stoops was a done deal. That being said if you listen to the reporters then you may have heard that the decision allegedly came from above CDC. If that's the case it came from the President of the University which suggests to me it's about Mike Stoops' aggressive political stances that he publicly displays (don't think anyone cares what they think if they keep it private) and given what happened on 1/6, University leadership simply didn't want to be associated with him in any way.
  3. How the fuck did we go from Stoops to Choate? There's no fucking way Stoops was preferred by Sark to fucking Choate
  4. Sold my 27 GME 46 and 3 GME 43 expiring today early in the morning for about 6k in profit. Had I just slept in like I meant to given that my early morning meetings were canceled, I would have woken up at 9:30am and started WFH 100k richer instead. Oh well profit is profit I guess?
  5. Updated to include this terrible, all-bad, no good hire. Kill me. Anything new is underlined
  6. Agreed, and it's odd I'm being painted as a pessimistic posted by some responses (not you) since I thought my post was incredibly optimistic. I fucking love the new staff for the most part Not at all. Despite being a little worried by the hire at first the dude has done nothing but impress me since. Agreed by and large. Despite complaining about Terry and Milwee (will admit I was unaware about the promotion to 10 on-field staff by Alabama when they had a COVID vacancy as that does change my opinion significantly (no the Arkansas State thing doesn't, because I already knew that and didn't care) so thank you to whomever posted that tidbit). Putting the hypothetical of whether I would have liked it if mentioned as a potential slate months ago aside since I don't think it is necessary, I have to say I love most of the staff right now. Hell I fucking gave like 4 of them A+ grades which should show how fucking hyped I am about them. I really want to clarify this because some think I'm overly pessimistic. I'm not. I'm nitpicking 2 hires that I don't absolutely love but think are probably fine and could be good but that I'm far less certain about than many of the other elite guys we've got on our staff (I have warmed on Milwee after learning some new information about him provided here). Because of my optimism I actually do agree that we have a top 10 assistant coach staff in the country. I mean if you have an elite offensive head coach who will be calling plays, an elite OL coach, and an elite DC you're in a good place and I'd say we have those three. Couple those three with everyone else and you have a staff to be proud of. Quite possibly the best staff we've had here in a decade and a half. Definitely the best on paper in a decade
  7. QBs: AJ Milwee (previously: analyst at Alabama, Akron OC/QB coach) - C He was pretty terrible at Akron. His highest FEI offensive rating was in the 80s and every other year is below 100. That's out of like 125 teams. In 2018, he was third from last. Maybe he's a decent QB coach without having to deal with the difficulties of being an OC. Maybe he just sucks. He is described as Sark's right hand which sound like code for comfort hire to me. Maybe he got better through osmosis and Sark thinks he learned well during his time as an analyst at Bama. Maybe the dude still sucks. Sark apparently plans to call plays and be heavily involved with day to day offensive duties, so it is possible he could mitigate this by virtue of being a great QB coach himself, but man, I really think we could have done better. RBs: Stan Drayton (retained from previous staff) - B+ Probably necessary to retain to keep Bijan away from transfer portal and maintain credibility with LJ. Guy is a pretty good coach, but seems to have a habit of getting too cute with rotations (see: Zeke @OSU and everything here). He is a decent recruiter. B+ because he got Bijan and keeping him keeps Bijan happy. Bijan is the truth. WRs: Andre Coleman (retained from previous staff) - B A lot of the players seem to love him, a lot of the analysts have great things to say about him, and a lot of coaches have great things to say about him, so I give him a B under the assumption my pessimism over him is just wrong instead of the C+/B- I may give otherwise. I didn't think our WRs were particularly great under him. No receiver got over 500 yards (aware season was shorter due to COVID (10 games vs 12-14), but that's still pretty shit. Putting up more than 60 yards a game for our WR1 should be a given. It's sad we couldn't do that. For comparison in 2018 when Collin Johnson was our WR2 he averaged over 75 yards a game. LJH averaged almost 85. TEs/STs: Jeff Banks (previously: TEs/STs coach at Alabama) - A+ Great fucking hire. Dude is an ace recruiter and if what the Athletic writes about the Kwiatkowski hire is true, Banksy already has his first elite recruit at Texas when he landed DC Pete from UW. Dude is a rainmaker and a good TE/ST coach that has performed admirably wherever his path has taken him. Don't need to say much else. Perfect hire. OL/OC: Kyle Flood (previously: OL coach at Alabama) - A+ Only possible better hire is the Arkansas OL coach, but that would be just splitting hairs. Kyle Flood is everything I could possibly ask for (and in fact did beg for). Great hire that should fix the biggest problem Texas has faced for the past 15 or so years. Perfect hire. DC: Pete Kwiatkowski (previously DC/OLBs at Washington) - A+ Somehow we got a better hire than some of the wild names thrown out on the forums. The idea that we could poach UW's stud DC was inconceivable to me before it happened. Over the moon about it. Dude takes some decent but not elite talent and churns out consistently elite defenses even when adjusted for the quality of Pac-12 competition. He performed admirably against Alabama in the playoffs back in the day (yes, not the same offense, but still did very well against elite talent) and beats the shit out of Mike Leach every single fucking year. If he can consistently handle Leach he is a good DC. DL: Bo Davis (previously: DL coach for the Detroit Lions) - A+ Another elite hire and a great sign that we're actually committing to playing the game as it is played today under SEC recruiting rules. Lights out recruiter, very good DL coach, intimately familiar with the region. What more can you ask for? LBs: - TBD CB/Defensive passing game coordinator: Terry Joseph (previously: defensive PGC at Notre Dame) - B- Better of the two ND DB coaches and has put some great guys in the NFL, but we probably had better options available for CB coach than Terry. C'est la vie. S/ST: Blake Gideon (previously: special teams coordinator at Ole Miss) - A- From what I've heard from a bunch of people, Blake Gideon is a great up-and-coming DB coach and what I know for a fact is that he's an elite ST coach. His STs at Houston led the nation in blocked kicks and blocked punts. They had a Ray Guy finalist. Ole Miss also had some very solid STs under him. He should be a great complement to Banks. Both of them should make us elite at ST again. Given how I see the other current hires, relative to them, it is easy to see why there is consternation towards Terry.
  8. Oh I don't disagree. My point was primarily that a game in which the opposing QB threw one fewer TD than incompletions is not a ringing endorsement of the defense, no matter how good the offense the QB in is. Like yes it is Bama. Yes, it is one of the best offenses CFB has ever seen. No, five incomplete passes and zero interceptions on thirty throws is still not good. For the record, I think Terry Joseph is like a B- hire not the C- hire some are making it out to be. I think he is an ok hire. Just disappointing compared to everyone else and some of the potential names discussed for CB coach.
  9. Mac Jones threw for 300 yards, 4 TDs, and was 25/30. Dude was one incompletion away from having the same number of TDs as incompletions. Even against Alabama that's not confidence-inspiring by any means.
  10. It seems to be assumed Corey Dennis is going to go to Jax with Urban. If he does would it be fair to assume that we have a very good chance of getting him to flip? I am assuming that his QB coach having an unexpected departure would certainly throw a wrench in things on the OSU side.
  11. Uninformed guess as to when shorts will have closed and profit taking begins
  12. That's why you don't buy puts during a short squeeze. Wait until Wednesday if you want to buy some
  13. I too will commit both to the brisket post fund and the ice cream post fund. Hell I'll post my own homespun ice cream if that's what it takes to get the Quinn Ewers/2021 croots thread to 1000.
  14. Great play design by Sark. You love to see it.
  15. Not sure how y'all managed to have a conversation about great ice cream and not bring up Salt & Straw or Teo Gelato.
  16. What is happening? We're a basketball school now. Did Shaka learn how to coach all of a sudden, or was it a slow process? Shaka got hair and all is well. In reality I think it's a combo of getting senior leadership, shortening the rotation and getting his best players minutes, and finally having some good guard play to pair with the traditionally great big play we've had under Shaka. Like I think the best guard we've had since I was a freshman back in 2014 was probably Isaiah Taylor. We haven't had a drafted point guard since Cory Joseph a whole decade ago. On the other hand, in the past five years we put Myles Turner, Jarret Allen, Mo Bamba, and Jaxson Hayes into the league. That's four first round bigs in five years. None of our guards may have elite NBA guard written on them, but we finally have some respectable college guards who can lead the team to success and a five star one and done big to go with them. To make matters better, we don't have to rely on the one and done big to make our team work as we saw today and multiple other games, which allows him to develop properly. For the first time in a long time, we're a complete team. Have we beaten any other really good teams, or is KU overrated? KU is definitely the best team we've beaten. Other than that we haven't beaten any other elite teams. That being said I think we're really solid. The other elite team we've played is #4 Villanova (likely to be #3 after the next poll) and we played them incredibly close in a hard fought game. We won the Maui invitational and we look good. Kansas has beaten Creighton, Texas Tech, and West Virginia and their only losses are to us and Gonzaga so I would not be surprised if they're a one seed when all is said and done. This is a fucking incredible win, I don't think we've ever beaten Kansas at AFH this hard and we have a ton to be proud of. Still a ton of ball left to play and Shaka and the Men's Basketball Team have a lot to prove, but fuck if it ain't easy to get excited right now
  17. @immamac While I know you banned "Fire {insert HC name here}" threads, it is an open question as to whether "Fire {inset position coach name here}" threads are. That brings us to an important question: if Mike Stoops is hired, can I create a "Fire Mike Stoops" thread? Better yet, can I create one right now?
  18. RGBIII as he delivers the truth to his people: God fucking bless the University of Texas, god fucking bless America, FUCK CHIP BROWN, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IT IS 11:21 IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, AND OU STILL SUCKS! Edit: Oh and that would be 9.95
  19. What a pity. Couldn't even hit 1000 pages
