  1. Perks of being 25: -Don't have to explain donating 120-600 dollars for make benefit glorious nation of Texas Football to the wife or anyone else. -Am not old like y'all Downsides: -Have not had the time to acquire Surly 1%er wealth yet Fuck it put me in for 10. Will probably kick it up to 50 when I'm 30.
  2. Fade me fam. They're trying to get students to spend hours learning how to become their own marketing managers instead of just putting them in a room with boosters who will give them tens of thousands of dollars they deserve in straight cash for a 30 second video clip where they read from a script. If the US Attorney for the Western District of Texas wants to make a kerfuffle about it so be it. I am sure there'll be a USA on Bama's ass and LSU's ass and everyone else's ass then as well. Way better than playing it stupidly clean and getting shit on on the trail.
  3. Can't see what he has in his hands, doomed If we're joining the SEC we need to do this the SEC way. The bags we're giving should be big, numerous, and heavy enough to require a Brinks truck.
  4. Yeah V Sattui, Stag's Leap, and Matthiason are where you want to be
  5. ISU will never get an invite to the Big 10. OSU isn't getting an invite to the SEC. Tech, TCU, AND KSU aren't getting Pac invites. Wake and BC aren't getting the boot this is stupid. The Big XII will just poach from the American and the MWC and call it a day. They'll be the new Big East.
  6. I mean they are undeniably the best non-revenue sports school in the country. It's absolutely legit if you treat excellence in the Olympic sports as important.
  7. I mean it's heavily weighted in favor of olympic sports due to their sheer volume and Stanford tends to churn out Olympians like no one else so...
  8. would you be willing to do a 10 if we can only find 2? Obviously 12 is better, though if we can get it.
  9. Reuters is pretty solid given they're just a wire service. Brookings is good for middle of the road think thank pieces. If you want decent news commentary on TV, I suggest going Jake Tapper, Fareed Zakaria, and Chris Wallace. Each of them has their own biases but at least they're intelligent and you know what their biases are and will generally learn something listening to them (but by and large cable TV should be avoided).
  10. I heard rumors that even after that Belmont was willing to save him with a win at TCU and a bowl win. What a terrible time...
  11. with the draft done let's see if we can find 5 more shall we?
  12. Thank you for the GVSI call. Up 50% since Monday morning when I bought.
  13. Cool so forward looking inflation expectation is around 2% and we've been consistently under 2 for the past 8 years or so. Looks like we'll be fine even if we run up to 2.5 or 3 until 2023. I'm not worried about a high inflation environment at all. Those who were worried about it after QE have massive egg on their face and maybe 20 years from now they will be right about massive inflation, but at that point they'll have called 30 of the last 1 inflationary spikes.
  14. I am pissed because I set a limit order at 0.69 that got filled and added 2k shares to my position. I should have been smart and bought 6,969 shares and made even more money.
  15. Jesus Christ AMYZF below 1...still holding but Jesus this hurts
  16. Correct and mega correct. HR and marketing still get paid handsomely there but nowhere near that much. All comments about high salaries will be for software engineers unless noted otherwise as that is my field and the field I'm most familiar with.
  17. I mean the first year they get pretty massive signing bonuses in cash and then they get end off review cycle cash bonuses as well that get their W2 income pretty close to 200k at Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple and well over it if you're a returning intern starting at Facebook full time. My friends that worked at FB as interns and returned got an offer letter for ~115k base + ~200k RSUs + ~100k cash bonus. So you definitely can get 200k+ first year out in base plus signing if you want to do the math that way. Or if you prefer to the math with an amortized TC (the way I and most others prefer to looks at it, you still get there when adding on average performer review bonuses+amortized RSUs/signing bonuses).
  18. What's the Surly hive mind consensus on ALPP?
  19. The fact that Mexico isn't particularly special is my point entirely. CONCACAF should be a breeze for any self-respecting national XI. This is a pathetic joke. Any defense of it is a sign of the pathetic culture America has for soccer. Being the best is the standard we hold ourselves to in every sport we give even the slightest damn about whether it be club or national from basketball to beach volleyball. Suddenly for soccer our standard is below qualifying for the damn tournament year in and year out?
  20. Yeah but they're in Europe where there are limited spots and it is actually hard to qualify. This is fucking CONCACAF. The only hard thing should be beating Mexico.
  21. I said many trips, not monthly. The monthly trips was in reference to 3 Michelin Star restaurants. Pre-COVID in one year I think I took a month long trip through Asia, a two week trip to India, and then 14 round trip domestic trips (I choose to fly domestically more than most of my fellow techie friends since I a) love America more than them, b) was a Texas football season ticket holder pre-COVID despite living in California (don't worry, I made sure someone went in my stead when I couldn't make it), c) love America more than them) all while managing to afford eating quite nicely. This is in California. California is expensive but nowhere near as expensive as Texans like to make it out to be. Also no one who can afford to live somewhere else lives in Arizona. Arizona has to be among the worst places west of the Mississippi to live.
  22. No one who heads out West feels like a poor when they make 200k+ their first year out of college lol. Look at their insta stories and you'll see them living lavishly if they are complaining about a lack of savings (many trips to Japan/Korea/Taiwan + monthly trips to French Laundry/Quince/Atelier Crenn/Benu/SingleThread and biweekly trips to places like Chez Panisse or Zuni or whatever else)
  23. What is going on with ALPP? Still holding. Should I be? I feel like it's dropped a lot (50%ish) on no bad news.
