I pull for the Dallas Burn and follow their youth development, but would much rather go to an Austin FC match than an FC Dallas match. (I have been to Frisco once. It kind of sucks.)

I am currently in Dallas, but would hop in my car and drive to Austin in a heartbeat over driving up to Frisco for a second FC Dallas snoozer.

I’m not jealous of Ausrltin FC, I’m excited for them. Their first season excitement reminds me of Atlanta’s… only not quite as much talent on the field, yet. 💥🧨💥

I've followed this league since its inception in 1993 before the World Cup in 1994.  I've never been to a Burn game in all that time, but I will be there when Austin takes over that stadium August 7, 2021.  Austin will be treating the Dynamo like Texas treats the Cougars and Owls and will treat the Burn like SMU; rather than Burnt Orange taking over, it will be a sea of green in those stadiums.

Is McCoughnagey (sp I don't give a fuck) writing the tweets?

Apparently you missed the fact that McCoughnagey (I'm fine with the spelling) is playing Josh Wolff in this video.  I think he got the accent right, but the makeup guys let him down a little bit. Look closely at Josh's McCoughnagey's nose; they clearly exaggerate for effect.

  3. Our last game before the Gold Cup break is against LA FC this Wednesday; LA has a Saturday game on the road at Real Salt Lake.  I like getting them on a short week.

After the Gold Cup Break we play Seattle in our first game back on Thursday, July 22.  Every other team comes back earlier; Seattle has a game on Sunday, July 18 at Minnesota.  I like getting them on a short week as well.

Getting 6 points is likely from these two.

We've already taken road points off Number 1 Western Conference Leader, Seattle and Number 2, KC (were leading KC 1-0 before a Ring red in other KC road game).  Additionally, we've outright beaten Number 4 in the west, Colorado, as well as Number 5 in the west, Minnesota, both on the road.  We just thrashed the team sitting in the final playoff spot, Number 7 Portland.  Additionally, we took a point off of the east team we get to play this year, Number 5 in the east, Columbus.

All of this without a fucking striker.  I think we are sitting pretty.  I'm starting to get giddy with the possibilities.

Playoffs should expected at this point.

How's that for glass is half full?

So....any scouting report on this youngster?  I mean....he can't possibly be a downgrade, but would like to know more.

important thing to note is he's not the DP that we've been waiting on; he'll be in addition to a big DP signing

Anyone caught LFG? The HBOMax doc on the women’s team? They must be doing something right, it totally pissed off the federation.

yea, the objective doc that asks the question:

shouldn't the US Women's national team be gifted the bonus money they would've gotten if they won the Men's World Cup?

    Christian Pulisic is Will's cousin.

I was thinking the back up goal keeper was a brother for some reason; I'm an old so don't persecute me.

Oh, Gallagher was the master of 4 touches inside the box when 1 (a snap shot) would do.  But Pochettino actually had plenty of chances right outside the box, and did the same thing.

It was maddening to watch multiple players futz around with the ball for multiple touches, giving the defense and the keeper time to position themselves, as opposed to taking an imperfect snap shot before the defense was ready for it.

yea, they have either too slow in build up (early season) and now have no patience.  The real issue is that chances are there and there isn't anyone there to finish.  Even a Zardes level finisher would have us with 3 more wins I think.

Opening tifo paid for by the FO is a very LAFC move. Good job

This is false from what I understand.

Supporting Gregg’s former assistant coach/ AFC manager.

I understand Gregg  be popping in, but pretty crazy that Christian would make an appearance.

think his brother is on the team (Pulisik) and Greg's son is on the team (Berhalter)

Because Latinos go to games all season long. White fans are traditionally not as dependable for MLS teams. So, apparently teams are willing to cater to the Latino demographic to make more money.

    😳🤷‍♂️

Uh, it's the fans (supporters groups) that picked those names for themselves.  What does the team have to do with the supporters groups naming themselves in Spanish?

Highlights: Stuver (although I don’t like him having to make those plays) and Fagundez (dude has incredible hustle and never quits on a play).

Disappointments: Ring (not the galvanizing presence I’d hoped to see) and Pochettino (he can’t finish, seems to get jittery when he gets close to the goal).

Loved the atmosphere and crowd. And we sit right behind Fagundez’s family, hope we’ll get to see them often.

I think you are thinking of Gallagher rather than Pochettino; the latter doesn't get near goal much and tends to shoot from distance

I'll take your word for it.  It's hard to see what he's bringing to the table compared to Stuver, Dominguez, Gallagher, Fagundez.

He is one of the top 3 defensive midfielders, number 6 positionally if you will, in the league

OK, I'll try to watch for that more.  Like I said, just a soccer dad, although my kid plays at a pretty high level, but I have to admit I view soccer through a lens that is hyper focused on his position.

He is like top 5 in tackles won (1 fewer game than the league leader) and top 5 in passing percentage as well I believe.

i try to never blame a poor result on the actions of one player, but this one is pretty cut and dry. completely fucking stupid.

yea, and I think that was only the second red of his career, completely lost his mind for no reason; stupid fucking foul at mid field

That was super nervy. Feel like we’ve had enough of the Danny Hoesen experiment.

fuck, you forget the guy is on the field until they announce Housen has almost done something good...again

People like a return on their investment and risks taken. That’s why.

Again, I don't know a fucking thing a bout him.  You want to be less subtle and give me the short story?

I would think that this would be the preferred action, but I feel like there is some rule against being on three teams’ books in the same year. Don’t know the specifics, it just seems like something I heard a few years ago.

Because Gregg is selecting the squad, I think that #1, #2, & #4 are all going to see playing time with our A team this year.

I think that Jozy is done. 18 months from now, he may not even be in the USA’s Top 10 #9s.

#5 on this list will play for Canada, and he should

Why is this again?  I don't know much about him other than he's come up through the U.S. youth system.

    IT team notes

      Hide contents

It feels like spring practice officially started on Saturday.

The very first thing we heard about Saturday’s makeup practice was that it was physical. Throughout the conversation with the source, he used the terms emotional, chippy, and rowdy.

IT responded by saying the video of the defensive backs going through drills was definitely violent and heard in response, “it was more than that. It was also like that on special teams and d-line versus o-line drills.“

Special teams too? That’s not hard to believe with the human upper Jeff Banks coordinating it. “Special teams you had two blockers versus the gunner and the gunner would either be pushed way out of bounds or fight through and go make the play. Guys were really fighting and it set the tone. Most energetic practice of the spring by far.”

Texas is using a number of gunners and they all won reps in this setting: Josh Thompson, D’Shawn Jamison, Chris Adimora, and Kitan Crawford.

Thompson continues to be singled out regardless of playing corner or special teams. “He had another pick on Saturday. He’s picked off both quarterbacks already this spring.” He’s also being singled out for his leadership.

The OL versus DL consists of either tandems or trios going at it. E.g. A tight end and offensive tackle would be pitted against a three-tech and X-backer. Or you could have the OG/C/OG going versus the two interior defensive linemen and a linebacker. These drills also helped spark an energetic and physical practice.

IT has heard the tight ends and offensive lineman are showing some improvement as practice goes on. Even Malcolm Epps at tight end was mentioned for showing some real spirit with regards to blocking.

Christian Jones spent the bulk of practice at left tackle, with Andrej Karic the bulk of time at right tackle. Isaiah Hookfin also worked in at right tackle.

Rafiti Ghirmai was with the ones at center.

The quarterbacks continue to share reps equally and that will be a fixture into August. There’s no real disparity between them yet. In team drills, Casey Thompson may be a bit quicker to leave the pocket, but that’s more him being decisive and taking the free yards rather than feeling antsy. Card so far looks to push the ball downfield a little more. Other than that, they’re pretty similar.

I can confirm that this is true according to my anonymous sources.  The underlying reason is even more miraculous.  Malcolm Epps had been diagnosed with narcolepsy by the previous staff.  As everyone who has watched Epps play can attest, this has affected his aggression and blocking ability.  The new staff has decided to take a more unconventional approach.  They have synchronized Spring practices to coincide with Epps sleeping episodes (this is the actual reason for the delay in practices, not covid).  This is where it gets interesting: the new staff found out that Epps also had violent nightmares while having a narcoleptic episode.

Says one former anonymous player, "[Bleep] dude, when that mother[Bleeper] is asleep it's like that kung fu movie where Kareem Abdul Jabbar fights Bruce Lee". (said my anonymous source Juwan Mitchell, remember to delete sources name later)

Says one anonymous coach, "Uh yea, we just have one of the players on offense walk him to his place on the line.  When Bijan runs behind Epps when he starts to flail, it usually goes for a touchdown."

Well, there you have it, this confirms what Kirk Johnson has been telling me during his what should have been stellar career. -- Chip Brown
