  1. The backup for the injured DT, Keenan, was Jeremiah Beaman. Beaman was a high 4 star in the 2024 class. He tore his knee up yesterday in practice and will be out for the year. On top of everything else, injuries are starting to mount for Bama. You hate to see it. The Crimson Tide are down to 6 healthy DTs. They have a junior starter in James Smith, 2 freshmen, a redshirt sophomore who has been a disappointment, a transfer from Florida who's done nothing and wasn't on last week's depth chart and then some other dude who didn't even travel last week. Thin isn't a descriptive enough word.
  2. Who is this Drew character? I like the non-Cowboy fan NFL thread idea.
  3. I expect to have a pretty good time tomorrow night watching that one, pretty much enough to be okay with not having CFB. Do Cowboys fans post a game thread? I might have to check that one out.
  4. I have never put my UT or Astro stuff away, for any reason. Don't be a coelenterate. My affiliation with Texas runs way, way deeper than any outcome on a playing surface. Holy shit.
  5. I thought you just weren't around much in order to avoid having to answer for the performance from your preseason "Best OL in the SEC" selection, the Alabama Crimson Tide. 😁 Who said they aren't actually going to watch the games? I feel like you're holding back a little. Dig deep and tell us how you really feel.
  6. I am biased because I have friends who were involved, but from the sounds of it, Deboer's S&C and Nutrition & Wellness programs have gone to absolute shit. The AD went in the week after Saban retired and fired the entire N&W group, including Saban's longest tenured direct report (and a longhorn). These programs going into decline has been discussed on Bama boards from the fan and insider perspectives and I've kind of been dismissive of it. Yet, last Saturday looked like more of the same from the end of last season, in which the opponent looked much more ready for the 4th quarter than Bama did. Anyway, I was looking at some things on the Michigan Insider board today and they had a write-up about Damon Payne, the DT transfer from Bama to Michigan who arrived last winter. The guy was highly rated as a recruit and then underperformed at Bama, especially last season. He had a really good game against New Mexico and he's surprised everyone up there with how much he's developed. Here's quite the telling quote from him comparing his situation at Michigan versus his time with S&C at Bama: “[Damon Payne] has done a great job of getting himself in shape. It's funny. We talked this week because we're playing Oklahoma. They played him last year when he was at Alabama, and there's a couple of clips of him on tape. And I said, ‘Man, you look different.’ And he goes, ‘Coach, we run a lot more here. We work out differently. I feel way better.’”
  7. I get all of that, but there are plenty of threads in which none of that is happening, including this one. Still plenty of good stuff on the general CFB front. I'll never understand why all of you guys go and read the game threads after a loss. I have quite literally never done that. It has to be utterly mind-numbing if it isn't infuriating.
  8. The writers on 247 have been foreshadowing the playing early of Fasusi and Fodje since the spring, and they've been touting this as a good thing. Fodje looked lost at times on Saturday. Not every highly ranked OL is Kelvin Banks. He's an exception to the notion that freshmen OL should be redshirted. Numerous people who evaluated both players, including before they were OU signees, said they'd need at least a year inside of whoever's program they signed with last December. So, wait, OU won the OL lottery not once, but twice, in the same signing period? Right. Fodje graded out at 61.2 for his first game against an FCS opponent. I wonder how that score is going to look after this weekend? The reality is that these guys are being rushed to play because OU has absolute dogshit for personnel on the OL. They let Bedenbaugh take a 3 year nap in recruiting and they've failed to fix that in the portal. Now they've got numerous injuries, again, and bad options, so here we go.
  9. The only thing I am surprised by is your surprise. Manning sucked and is largely the reason Texas lost the game. Deflating is a kind way of putting it. The buzz is completely gone around the program, albeit I assume just temporarily. I saw the Directv commercial with Wingo on it this week and it actually made me a little nauseous. Where the fuck was anything like that on Saturday? It's not really a rational reaction as Ohio State is quite a different beast than UTSA, which is what that clip is showing. But, I am a fan, I don't have to be rational. The OSU outcome takes a while to shake off for everyone. The golden boy played like ass, the program is 0-4 against big time opponents over the last 10 months, and Sarkisian is a fucking twit in the red zone. All of that creates a hangover effect. If Texas was playing Florida this week, sure, that would either cancel it out or double down on the feeling. But that's not for another 4 weeks, so this is going to linger longer than it should. Due to numerous schedule issues personally for @SydneyCarton's family and mine, we're having to split home games up for our seats this year. He gets SJSU and then we get UTEP. My wife was trying to figure out logistics due to sports stuff Friday-Sunday of next week. I finally just told her I'd stay in Houston with the one who has a weekend long tournament. I had no desire to go watch fucking UTEP play Texas in a 3/4 full stadium. My wife likes the experience and the 3 other kids will be excited to be in the suite and everything that goes with that, so let the normal people have their fun. I doubt any of them will pay a whole lot of attention to the game, similar to most of the rest of the fanbase not addicted enough to be posting and reading on Surly and the other UT sites.
  10. There's no real gotcha there for us. Manning didn't meet the moment and it cost Texas the game. He needs to improve for Texas to make the CFP and perhaps win the whole fucking thing this season. That and Sarkisian not shitting himself in the red zone. Those are the only two issues for Texas as a whole right now. They're important issues, but the Manning issue can fix itself with reps and experience, same as with many green QBs. This is an OU thread, though. You know that. You guys have a litany of issues that you need to clear up in order to get bowl eligible. I don't think there's anything wrong with Mateer or your defense. Those two things alone aren't good enough to get you guys to 6-6 against that schedule. The OL is an abomination, the RBs are plain as grits, the TEs are a laughingstock, and the WRs are a mash unit. To boot, the majority of your coaching staff sucks and your going to have Venables getting more guys injured during tough midweek practices because he's a meathead. Good luck with all of that.
  11. Here's a breakdown of concerns from Tarp. I think it's a good article and he touches on some things that would scare me if ATM was my team. He doesn't really address stupid penalties, but those were also a thing last year and again on Saturday night. The Elko is considered a disciplinarian in ATM circles, and I've yet to understand why they think that. Highlights: -ATM can't run the ball well and hasn't since the middle of last year. -ATM can't stop the opponent's running game and hasn't since the middle of last year. -The DL was getting blown off of the ball in the first half of the game and the LBs and Safeties weren't showing up to help out. -Klein wants to throw the ball and deemphasize the running game, allegedly. I wonder how this is going to work out next week in South Bend with ND coming off of a bye week?
  12. I thought about that one. Part of just thinks it's really hard to trust Bielema in consecutive seasons. Then I realize that he'll be up against Manny Diaz and my head just wants to explode.
  13. Others have answered the question, so I'll pose a different question: Why does it matter? Just ignore a thread if it doesn't interest you. There's like 30 on the front page of the football board with multiple pages to them that I have never even clicked on, and don't feel the need to click on them any time soon.
  14. You ignore the state of Texas at your own peril, sir. Texas State at UTSA should be a fun game if you can find it on tv. Houston at Rice is one of the most celebrated rivalries in all of ... the Med Center area of Houston. ESPN+ will be blowing up for this one with tens of viewers. No love for Oklahoma State at Oregon? I know Okie State sucked last year, but maybe this one is okay? Boston College at Michigan State isn't sexy, but it interests me. I want to know if either one of these teams is capable of giving bigger conference opponents a challenge this season. I find OU being favored by 5.5 to be fascinating. In most seasons, there are usually a couple of weekends in which a number of upsets occur. At least one of those weekends usually also looks sleepy. Maybe we get a little of that this weekend for our entertainment.
  15. Texas 51 - SJSU 0 165 rushing yards.
  16. @SydneyCarton, two of our other UT buddies and an aggie buddy watched a bunch of games on multiple tvs throughout the day on Saturday. Saturday evening we had ATM, OU and LSU/Clemson all on at the same time, and others. The funniest one, far and away, was the OU game because of how bad OU looked against an FCS team. In the ATM game, I was surprised that Craver looked as good as he did. I knew he was fast, but he jumped off the screen a couple of times. Watching Owens get the longest run of his career was funny. But yeah, that ATM defense is really bad. They're going to lose plenty of games this season.
  17. I guess there are a few things that cause me to not loathe Tech as much as some other in-state and rival schools. You guys could always rile up your rival, Texas 8&4, better than anyone when y'all won. I always enjoyed that. And, you're also not allowing a rape factory to be run inside the AD in order attempt to win shit. So you're also not Baylor. And even though your academics are on a level that would make a Neanderthal cavewoman cry, so are OU's and at least y'all are Texan. So you have that going for you, which is nice.

  19. My issue? I stated it. You guys are always trying to keep Texas attached to you or aiding you in some form. The very loudmouth we're discussing here, Campbell, was publicly bawling as Texas left for the SEC because Texas wasn't interested in committing to a Tech home and home for 20 years like he'd been claiming. I don't give a shit that Tech is "trying" to compete. I don't even understand that argument. Competition is the fun in college sports, or a big part of it. Your issue? It might be reading comprehension. I wasn't referencing the academics as something in regard to athletes. I kind of follow recruiting a little. Only for like the last 35 years. I think I figured out that academics didn't mean a whole to many recruits in roughly 1992. I was referring to academics in the form of "I can never really find anything to help me align with Tech in any form as they're constantly trying to yoke themselves to my alma mater. " I also never said that Tech needed Texas money to survive. Campbell is one of the folks implying that risk, however. He's publicly stating that college sports is broken and in need of fixing, largely because of the financial issues across the land. He's not an altruist. He's not arguing that for Austin Peay or Tarleton State's sake. If you believe otherwise, I guess say so, and I'll leave you alone as I don't enjoy conversing with naive fools.
  20. What is incorrect or dated about what I said? Have you guys rocketed up the academic rankings and I missed it? Did a bevy of football talent move to greater Lubbock? Have you won a fucking thing lately? Lots of eyeballs and fans springing up suddenly? No. This is exactly what Cody Campbell is shouting to anyone who will listen. Your ability to stumble into accidental points that favor another poster's POV is almost surreal.
  21. They also lost their deep threat to the NFL. He got picked up by somebody, although I don't know if he made the team and I have forgotten his name. SJSU also lost much of the strength of their defense, 3 guys in the secondary, to the portal. The previous Navy coach, Ken Niamaiatuailuatlamatatchapa, is their HC. They run an absurd version of the spread and throw the ball constantly. They *only* threw is for like 66% of the time this past weekend, but they averaged around 75% passes for every offensive snap last season. The best (but not perfect) recent comp for their offense is Colorado State, in terms of teams Texas has played. If folks are expecting a bunch of sacks, they're going to be very disappointed. On defense, they have a guy that is about Taurean York's size at LB and he's really their only good or better player. He had 15 tackles on Saturday. They're a very small defense overall. Also, their kicker sucks. I was hoping SJSU would be a bowl team again this season, but with the loss to CMU and the losses on the roster, that seems unlikely. This will be a blowout and I doubt we learn a whole lot. Maybe we get to know the secondary better with all of the passing, but the personnel on the other side will determine some of that. If they're just terrible, I doubt we pick up much on that end either.
  22. Snapcounts for week 1 spoilered below. Not a lot of highlight points for this one, really.
  23. Neuheisel is on XM 84 regularly pushing the same vague agenda as what Campbell appears to be doing, and that's unifying the conferences as one entity to negotiate contracts on their behalf with the content platforms, among other things. One would have to be a naive fool to see that as anything other than creating a uniform market cap across the conferences and programs. It is the same shit as always - Texas Tech and others wanting to coattail the bigger guys without bringing much of anything to the table. My issue when Tech and its people in the state legislature or rubes like this brotoxxed clown start trying to dig into other schools' pockets, usually Texas' pockets, is that you guys truly do not actually bring anything to the table. I can't think of a single redeeming thing about the athletic program at Tech that would soften my view of that bullshit. You guys have never won in anything of significance. I follow any of the college sports in which UT participates, so I know you've won at T&F a few times and you have that WBB title from the 90's, but none of that does it for the regular fan. Your academics are unmitigated trash. You don't have a talent base that others could plunder by associating with Tech. No TV eyeballs. Small fanbase. Mediocre brand. Like, show me something to offset the view that Campbell is just another Tech shitheel trying to bring everyone not named Tech back to Tech's bottom-feeder level.
  24. As of this moment? Sure seems like it. Maybe after Georgia makes Sarkisian and Manning look like buffoons again in November, I'll change the thread title to something like "Texas Football 2025 - Getting Kicked Like A Bitch".
  25. Hey man, we didn't need the imagery of you fucking Jeff Howe. I've been blamed for a lot of stuff on the boards over the years. Some of it justified, some of it absurd. What I've never been blamed for, however, is posting a thread title that cost us a game. Solid work.
