  1. First spring practice update. It's both funny and sad. Highlights and then article in spoilers: -Elko remains fully butt-clenched with reporters in terms of anything they can actually report. Reading between the lines, there also continues to be conveyed a sense of pravda-level oversight in terms of even the comments the writers can make about the team as they watch practice. -Marcel Reed already looks way better, while throwing against no defense. -The Zeno guy continues to be touted as an amazing back-up at QB. -Concepcion is going to catch 110 passes for 800 yards. -Some no one named Bethel-Roman isn't good enough to crack the starting line-up at WR, but boy, he's someone to watch out for, I'm telling ya. -Moss and Daniels are out for the spring. Reuben Owens is dutifully following the Elko S&C requirements of gaining as much weight as possible during the offseason. He's trending towards legitimate fatass at TB per eyewitness accounts. Karels spins it well here. -The TEs are all 6'5" and over 250 except Niblack. They're all slower than molasses and can't block or catch for shit. -The OLs looked super impressive while standing around and doing nothing while the press was present.
  2. That would be a full market reset. I’m skeptical of those numbers as of this moment.
  3. I used two 2 seeds that I do not trust deeper into the tournament - Tennessee and Bama. Bama almost killed me today. I'm pretty surprised that I'm the only one that has picked either. Last year, I feel like a bunch of us got killed trying to get cute with lower seeds while there were still 1's and 2's in our hip pockets. I'm hoping to see that happen this time around too, I guess.
  4. You enjoy being pedantic, so whining about phrasing is something you get off on, and we all get it. Mark up the article and mail those guys your edits. In reality, Gerry and Bobby both know damned every agent out there, including Sexton, and a bunch of CBB coaches, to boot. Burton can also pick up the phone and talk to just about any major booster or AD employee he wants at Texas. I feel like their articles provide data points for some readers of this thread, accordingly. Maybe CDC plays this one characteristically close to the vest and whoever he hires is a surprise to us all. That's a decent bet. So, sure, do what you want. I'll pass on the egregiously erroneous articles from OTF when I have time, nonetheless.
  5. Gerry/Bobby candidate info: Friday AM Update: Texas basketball and Rodney Terry The Texas basketball staff is business as usual, as of late last night. The staff is scheduled to have meetings this morning with portal recruiting and high school recruiting the No. 1 topic. Obviously, everyone and anyone around the program knows and understands what is going on. The Longhorns are currently in the final two for 5-star power forward Koa Peat (Gilbert, Az./Perry) along with Arizona State. The decision is considered a toss up right now. He is the younger brother of NFL offensive tackle Andrus Peat. Andrus Peat chose Stanford over Texas, USC and others coming out of high school as a 5-star recruit. Terry's future at Texas ... Nothing has changed on our end at OTF. We continue to believe that Terry has coached his last game at Texas. There is a lot of timing with the movement, as Bobby Burton wrote yesterday. "But first and foremost is the modus operandi of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and the timing of how he fires and hires coaches. For example, consider the timing of CDC's hirings of the two highest profile coaches at Texas - Steve Sarkisian and Jim Schlossnagle. Tom Herman was officially fired on Jan. 2, 2021. Steve Sarkisian was hired later that same day, on Jan. 2, 2021. As for Schlossnagle, previous Texas baseball coach David Pierce was informed he would not be retained on June 24, 2024. Just one day later, Schlossnagle was hired, on June 25. In other words, during high-profile hirings, Del Conte's m.o. is crystal clear. He likes to do things cleanly, moving from one head coach to another with immediacy. As one source put it, CDC and Texas do not want to do anything considered merely "patchwork". They want a replacement ready to go prior to releasing the other head coach." The Texas brass is well into the process of vetting candidates. Some notes on names of interest ... OnTexasFootball believes Sean Miller and Tommy Lloyd are legitimate names to know. Those are not the only legit names to know. Sean Miller's agent is Jimmy Sexton. Tommy Lloyd's agent is also the agent of Rodney Terry. Lloyd has a nine million dollar buyout. Names such as Doug McDermott, Todd Golden, Ryan Odom (VCU), Mick Cronin and 2-3 others have been vetted on some level. Also, yes, some unicorns have been too - but they aren't truly realistic at this point. In the last go round prior to Rodney Terry's hiring, contact was made with the agents of Mark Few, Billy Donovan and Quin Snyder. All said no at the time. Asked a college basketball coaching source about potential fits at Texas ... On Sean Miller, "Terrific coach. Has the type of offensive system Texas needs. Would win at Texas. Understands demands of big time job." On Tommy Lloyd, "Great offensive system. Very impressive recruiting strategy. His assistant Jack Murphy, and Tommy are a strong combo in international recruiting. Would be a good fit at Texas." I asked the college coach about Bill Self for fun. "He would be an amazing fit at Texas. Would crush it. No question." To be clear, OTF is not saying Self is a realistic possibility. To be clear, OnTexasFootball is not saying the next Texas coach is one of these three.
  6. Allegedly Hurley and Wright are already hard passes.
  7. Hank South wrote a good summary on Sarkisian's coaching changes this spring, including the QB assistant coach/analyst he hired yesterday. I've spoilered the rich text version, which has links to the profiles and such for each coach. Plain text below for everyone else not so inclined. ***** Texas expected to hire Chicago Bears QB coach Kerry Joseph to staff Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is making another staff move this offseason ahead of the Longhorns' March 25th spring football start date, hiring Chicago Bears quarterback coach Kerry Joseph. Hank South18 hrs14 Texas is expected to hire Chicago Bears quarterback coach Kerry Joseph, according to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz. Joseph, who has coached in college football as well as the NFL, helped develop 2024 No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Caleb Williams as a rookie last year, when Williams passed for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns. Joseph has worked in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks as an offensive assistant (2020-23) and served as a coaching intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017 and with the New Orleans Saints in 2014. Joseph's college coaching stints have included Southeastern Louisiana (2019) as passing game coordinator and running backs coach and McNeese State - Joseph's alma mater - in 2018 as interim head coach, offensive coordinator/QB coach. A native of New Iberia, La., Joseph played quarterback at McNeese State, where he helped lead the program to a 42-11 record and two Southland Conference championships before playing professionally in both the NFL and Canadian Football League from 1996-2014. Joseph was a safety with the Seattle Seahawks from 1999-2001 and returned to playing quarterback in the CFL from 2003-14, including winning a Grey Cup title with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2007. Joseph is the latest offseason staff addition at Texas as coach Steve Sarkisian has looked to bolster the Longhorns' on- and off-the-field football staff. Chad Scott, the offensive coordinator/running backs coach at West Virginia under Neal Brown, has replaced Tashard Choice, who joined the staff of the Detroit Lions. Neal Brown, who called the offensive plays at WVU before getting let go after last season, has also joined Texas' staff as an analyst and will be allowed to coach on the field. Duane Akina, who helped develop 15 defensive backs into NFL Draft picks while at Texas from 2001-13, and Rutgers cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey (pronounced OR-fay) have replaced defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach Terry Joseph, who joined the New Orleans Saints' staff and safeties coach Blake Gideon, who became the new defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech. Sarkisian added Ohio State assistant LaAllan Clark to coach defensive ends, a job held by defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski the past four seasons. Jason McEndoo, who coached tight ends and fullbacks at Oklahoma State last year, has been hired as an analyst, and McEndoo is assisting tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks. Also on the offensive side of the ball, Sarkisian promoted analyst Mike Bimonte to passing game coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach after Bimonte got offers to leave. Sarkisian has also promoted Keynodo Hudson from a staff analyst position to coaching the team's nickel cornerbacks. Last week, Sarkisian addressed many of the offseason personnel moves. "We're really pumped about all these guys," Sarkisian said. "And then we really tried to beef up our support staff and our recruiting staff. We brought in Errin Joe, director of scouting. We brought in Josh Dunson, senior player personnel coordinator, and then we promoted a couple people from within in Tanner Martin, scouting coordinator and Jordan Mitchell, a recruiting and retention strategist. "So again, all the credit in the world to these guys for the job that they've done from within, but also bringing these guys in. We appreciate the support our administration has given us, that CDC [Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte] has given us, to make these moves and to do these things and to expand in a way that I think is healthy for our program given the state of college football and where we're headed."
  8. I remember when Jackson Arnold was the truth and we were going to get to know it. Also, Burks was a revelation who was going to be next great 1st round WR out of OU. That feels like years ago, man. Or 8 months ago, whatever.
  9. The $10M project is likely a $9.9M project for future reference on these kinds of things that might pop up again for any of the sports. CDC doesn't have to get BoR approval for projects below $10M. There've been a few $9.9M projects already and the concessions area is likely another.
  10. Posters on Sooners Illustrated aren't big fans of Joe Jon Finley as the TE coach. They have a thread right now talking about how former highly rated TE prospect Davon Mitchell is now clocking in at 275. He's "shaping up to be more of a blocking TE", per some of their sunshine pumpers. "He's only 18!" "He'll lose it by the summer time!" "He's really carrying it well!" Schmidt and JJF have a history of swelling their TEs up to unhelpful sizes, per some of the haters there. I haven't tried to verify further. I found the spoilered post below to be both insightful and hilarious (as a Texas fan). Kanak at TE cracks me up. The hagiographic tale of his turn from solid Clemson commit to OU signee, tearfully apologizing to Coach Dabo for having to go with his heart and begging Coach Vegetables to take his top 100 ranking and let him sign with his first class in a painful act of betrayal to Coach Dabo for both of them - what a guy. Whispers of "Coach BV's next great All American LB" could be heard on Norman podcasts and in coach/booster gatherings. Now? 7th string TE. hahahahahaha @Constant @Pdawg88 @kilroydos and any sooner I am forgetting, what are y'all's thought about JJF and the TE position at OU right now?
  11. Burton has direct access to the money that is going to be relied upon for getting something done. I don't think any of the other guys do. If he starts getting certain about anything, that's probably good information.
  12. Here's another sad update from the 247 team. This time, it's Carter Karels attempting to smear lipstick all over the porcine hulk that is the ATM 2025 football outlook and roster. Highlights: -WR is a total rebuild and that Concepcion guy better be the fucking balls, because it's a dumpster fire around them. Hudson is gone and the Craver guy is currently suspended due to a drug bust. -DL isn't in much better shape. Outside of Regis, it's also a total rebuild. They're relying on players from lesser programs or guys who haven't played much at better programs. I don't even think Hicks was mentioned in the article. -Elko will not discuss injuries, so that have no clue whether or not most of the injured players from 2024 are even going to play this spring. -Lots of dependency on scrubs named Zeno, Bisontis, and Crownover. Bottom line, ATM has an experienced, if mediocre, OL coming back, along with a bad LB room and an even worse secondary. And Marcel "The Man" Reed. TE, WR, TB, DE, DT are all either question marks or outright fucked. Inevitably, Liucci will make the rounds this summer and tout their experience and work to convince folks "not to sleep on ATM" and voters will take the bait, as always. They'll enter the year ranked and not have a fucking prayer of being in that spot at season's end.
  13. I'm reminded of former Astros prospect, Colin Moran, due to these last few posts. True to his almost name, the guy once cleanly fouled a ball off of his face. He missed months after that due to the injury. I have watched and/or played baseball for many decades and I have never seen anything like that, before or since. I believe it was partly out of embarrassment that the Astros included him in a trade that offseason and he never wore the Astros uniform again. May this Moran be less Moranic than the last one.
  14. Looks like it could be a big group. In and paid.
  15. The Irish Wrist Watch guy has been advocating for Manning to start for a long time. He likely masturbates daily to that UTSA run and the run against ATM in some sort of loop. Discussing VY vs Manning running speeds or skills insults us all and gives that dipshit some sort of oxygen to say more stupid shit.
  16. They’re not developing guys. If you are a 5 star and want to go bust, sign with Venables at OU. Go look at what a lot of the highly ranked 4 stars and 5 stars are doing there. Busts all over the place. Remind you of anything elsewhere in the recent past?
  17. Guys that commit to Clemson tend to sign with Clemson. Generalizations are great and all, yet I was touching on something specific and impervious to your lazy position.
  18. What I read Gerry saying here is that Georgia and Clemson lead for Atkinson by a decent margin over Texas and others. Not surprising with Georgia, but to see Clemson putting together a potential top 3-5 class is. I guess there's overweight in this cycle for talent from NC down through Georgia, so it makes sense that they'd benefit when that happens. Gerry: Latest on Peach State 5-star OnTexasFootball spoke with a person in the circle of Grayson High (Loganville, Ga.) 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson Monday night. Atkinson, 6-foot-2 and 210-pounds, visited Clemson and Georgia in the last three days. Both will be in the recruitment until the very end. OTF was asked during Monday nights Talkin' Ball if Atkinson had essentially cut Texas from his list. According to the source, Texas remains very much in the mix for the Peach State star. OTF believes that Atkinson will likely be back on campus prior to making a decision. Could that change? It's recruiting so always a chance, but this person has maintained for months that Atkinson would visit Texas again. Clemson, Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Auburn and Tennessee are the schools mentioned the most. Peach State official visits locked in for June ... June 13: Aaron Gregory, WR, Douglassville (Calif.) Douglas County - *Texas A&M commitment OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++ Heze Kent, TE/ATH, Brunswick (Ga.)High OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++ Bryce Perry-Wright, DL, Buford (Ga.) High OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+ June 20: Kaiden Prothro, TE, Bowdon (Ga.) High OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++ Spoiler for dark mode babies.
  19. I didn’t mean to imply anything more than cosmic shit with how it worked out with Terry. There were some really deflated supporters when Beard fucked it all up. I don’t know how much folks were ready to immediately pour into the next guy. TJ Ford has been rallying former players and pleading the case for Ivey for years now. The guy gave me the pitch at one point so I have heard it with my own ears. If Durant is doing anything along those lines, it’s derivative. I’m assuming someone in the discord is just passing the story off and getting names wrong.
  20. I'm not directly involved with anything other than the ability to talk to a few folks because we're working together on overarching stuff. So this is just one guy's view on how this stuff works at Texas specifically. Most of what drives anything with Texas is from internal forces. The goal to be the best at everything is the north star. I don't get any sense in any sports NIL discussion or whenever guys like CDC talk in private that performance of other programs is a driving force. Maybe it's used as a talking point or something, but Texas not being at the apex is always the bigger issue. With basketball in particular, there's a realization or belief that it is kind of absurd that Texas isn't a title contender in basketball. Maybe shit was different 40+ years back, but there is no reason that Texas shouldn't be hanging banners in basketball. Everything is there for it if the coaching situation is right.
  21. I still think I'm not fully following, but here are my thoughts on what I think you're talking to here. Some of these buyouts aren't "a few million dollars", unless you think $12+M is "a few". Billionaires feel that kind of action. As I posted earlier today, if someone's buyout is something like $7M, they'll bite the bullet, I'm betting. When relaying info to a reporter, some of the posturing of "we're not likely to go over $5M" is just that, whether trying to get that out to the admin, the agents, the fans, or all of them. A deal won't die over a million or two, but past that, it's an issue. The other thing people on this thread aren't taking into account is stuff I've also seen on the NIL front - it is really easy to spend other peoples' money. Committing to going all in to support a high quality hire means committing to years of support and that's a lot money for anyone. Unless there's a compelling reason to swallow a huge buyout, don't. As to some notion of a payoff spread over years in terms of an ROI concept, that doesn't really work. The BMDs aren't getting that money back. They're just getting pats on the back from CDC and maybe their name on something new. Having dealt with all of these people now in some form, or seen the dealings, they're going into the process knowing where their hard lines are for what they can commit. They're not worth 9 figures or billionaires by accident. They know their limits and appetites for risk and pleasure in this stuff. In some ways, there's a part of me that thinks the Rodney Terry period kind of needed to happen. There was some serious fatigue and depression with what transpired with Beard. Even if CDC had the big name lined up, and several were seriously rumored to be interested, were they going to get the sense of urgency and buy-in from the BMDs? Maybe, but maybe not. Now? Folks seem to have a sense of urgency and buy-in if they land whoever they think they're landing.
  22. I guess I'm missing something. The buyout clause for poaching usually requires and upfront payment from either the coach or the school doing the poaching. How are they going to get that spread over multiple years outside of a contract renegotiation with the offended school?
