Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
You guys cannot fucking help yourselves. All it takes is one simple idiot showing up to ask a dumb fucking question and then a thread careens off into the ditch and flatlines there for a page or two. Lost from that article is that he's hearing that Ffrench is going to start getting more looks inside. I can't even figure out if I think that is a good or a bad thing. He's also telling readers what I've been saying this offseason - those guys are taking up a lot of payroll and there's going to be some pressing to get them into games and give them every chance to be a part of the rotation. Whoever doesn't make it will be of the highest portal risk in December and by then, the staff may be okay with that. In the new world, that's just part of the math sometimes with highly rated freshmen. The quiet part doesn't always need to be said out loud. It behooves us all to whistle past the graveyard of our minds every now and then.

Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)
Phil Steele was on with Plank on XM 84 earlier today. College Sports Saturday is the show and I generally enjoy both Steele's segments on various shows and Plank as a talking head except when he's talking about OU. They were discussing ATM and Steele can't help himself. He's high on ATM largely because Elko is calling plays on defense, Marcel Reed and "they're returning so many starts across their OLine". You can tell that Steele gets taken in by the coaches who will actually talk to him and not just send an assistant for the phone call. Elko knows how to handle these guys and he's sold Steele on his team. I come back to, is anyone actually watching the games? Steele's job is to know these teams inside and out. Does he watch any film? I'm hoping not in this case, because if he is and he thinks that returning Reed and that OL with Klein as the OC is a big plus for them, he doesn't know what in the fuck he is talking about with regard to gameplay. In all of the ATM discussion I've heard and read from elsewhere since last season, I have not experienced one moment in listening/reading in which anyone has discussed either the net negative talent flow with the portal for ATM or their futility on the road. No one has pointed out that they appear to have a systemic problem with playing on the road. This goes back as far as the eye can wander on a season by season basis. They had a .500 road record last season by beating juggernauts pre-Lagway Florida and 0-8-in-the-conference Mississippi State. They had their pants pulled down in public with South Carolina shouting "Yo! Check us out!" behind them as the CFB nation stared in amusement. They shit the bed against Auburn. They went 0-4 in 2023, 0-4 in 2022, and (2-2 if you count Colorado, as the game was in Denver and ATM won 10-7 against that piss poor team) 1-2 in 2021. They went 4-1 in 2020, getting blown out by Bama and beating 4 teams with a combined record that season of 15-26. I don't even know the last time they had a winning record during a non-corona season on the road because I got tired of looking. I'm sure they had one in 2012 simply due to the overall record being 11-2. They haven't had one from 2015 forward and that's while playing a usually terrible SCar on the road every other season. 9 of the last 10 seasons has produced .500 or worse, usually worse, and the 1 winning season was a national anomaly. This year they play @Notre Dame, @ Texas, @ Arkansas, @ Missouri, and @ LSU . Now, maybe they pull a few of those out, say Arkansas and Missouri (I am taking Missouri, but work with me here). If they win all home games as well, that's 9-3 and staring down the barrel of a good bowl game, that they will inevitably choke. 9-4 ceiling. I don't see how you look at that program for this season and tell anyone with a straight face that they're going 3-2 or better on the road. The assumption that they'll also go undefeated at home is doing a lot of work as well.

I don't see it as pessimistic. It's pretty realistic and has been for years. We're not predicting 4-8 here. We're just saying 8-5/9-4 is their absolute ceiling and 6-7/7-6 shouldn't shock anyone, and then we've backed that with reasoning associated to roster analysis, schedule analysis and coaching analysis. If the analysis is shit, fine, I'll do a mea culpa on my end after the season. If we're right yet again, can we stop with the stupid lamentation that this site always overestimates ATM's downside? They haven't finished a season ranked since 2020.

Malachi Moore. Titty baby of the first order. In a surprising twist, the New York Jets took him in a middle round and expect big things out of him. Let's see how it works out.

Scooby Williams is basically Aggie DD Lewis. He looks the part, which is why he was a top 150 national guy coming out of high school. The problem is, he has the instincts of a dead lemming. Good luck betting on that dude to be a "difference maker" for their defense this year.- SEC Catch-all Thread
LSU canceled an open media practice today, abruptly, and said the SID would be available for a few questions after practice. The posters on 247 are starting to freak out and the mods aren't doing a great job of providing assurances. They all seem to be developing the notion that the Nussmeier injury is a bigger deal than the LSU program is admitting.- 2022 RB Jaydon Blue
Bone bruise and nothing structural. Should be back soon, supposedly.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
I'm mostly out of the loop on details as they've developed their ways of working internally. Sometimes during peak nonsense periods, you hear a lot. I know from one conversation recently that Tech is absolutely on the radar and one bit of intel folks have picked up is that they're basically forming like 100 LLCs that can each pay players $4899 for NIL as an apparatus for just avoiding the clearinghouse in general. Sounds absurd and complicated, but, hey, it's their problem to manage and sell to the roster/recruits.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
A few notes on future opponents this season. Florida: -They're having offensive line issues, particularly at Tackle, and they also have some OL injury issues with very little depth. -They've had 5 WRs go down with injuries, and the Dallas Wilson injury could be season-ending. Gerry had called him the second best WR recruit in the last cycle behind DK Moore and the early reports at Florida confirmed that. The guy was showing out. Nothing is official as far as I know, but there's a lot of hand-wringing from everyone on their boards. -Is Napier like Venables East or something? They beat their roster to shit heading into the season last year and had injury issues all year. They're back at it again now. How many Oklahoma and Man in the Ring drills is Sunbelt Billy pacing these poor bastards through each practice? Regarding Matt Patricia's defense and their install progress at Ohio State, spoilered below is an update from Bucknuts:- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
I wouldn't worry about the bag game. It will always show up in the dumbest of recruitments even today, sure. That said, the monetary requirements have elevated to heights that make it largely irrelevant. LSU, Bama, Georgia, OU, Clemson, etc., these are all programs that are going to repeatedly struggle to hit their nut on the revshare side to begin with, so boosters will be tapped and fatigued. We're seeing that already. $800k used to win a recruiting cycle for Bama or LSU. That seems quaint now. The bigger thing to worry about is when a program with plenty of money starts pushing large sums above the $20.5 revshare allotment into the payrolls and acting like that's not what they're doing. A limited number of programs could do that, but the most obvious one to go there and be fucktards about it sits 90 miles east of Austin.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
Don't tell that to @Helobious. He's going to fuck your take up, bro. In truth, I think the last 2 Aussie punters that Texas had didn't work out. Pearson has become really good at SMU, if memory serves, but he never kicked at Texas. I can't remember the other dude's name but it was like Polish or something and he punted for us for a year, poorly. I don't know where he went from Austin, however. I'm a bigger proponent of chickenhawking proven FBS punters into and through the portal. Worked with the Stanford dude and returns on the new guy are positive. But, apparently Banks disagrees, as we have some high schooler teed up to be here next season again.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
If you could see how the sausage was being made in the last cycle, you'd have been plenty worried. It's just best to remember that multiple dudes will be putting a gun to the program's head in December, no matter much we all may like them as fans. Moore, Muhammad and Niblack all got way out over their skis in the last cycle and we could very well be looking at all 3 on other rosters. We don't care and kind of laugh at Niblack's deal, but playing chicken with the other two luckily wound up in Texas' favor with Muhammad and broke some spirit with Moore. Neither would have been good losses.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
Pretty sure he's one of those old ass Australian Rules football guys that they converted at their academy. He looks 35 here though. Damn.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
Shaw is found money. He had a solid year last year after looking like a huge bust for UNC. Then he gets here and he can't trust one of his legs enough to go through some offseason drills. The word was that they were hoping he could do his best Jermayne Lole imitation and pick his spots to do something in very limited, painful snaps in 2025. Then they scope the guy and he's being openly talked about as someone who could move up draft charts. That's freaking huge and does nothing to denigrate the other guys on the depth chart. Lost in all of this is the very obvious probability that Hills portals in December. Sort of that 2022 class review from Gerry the other day, he's one of those guys getting drowned out by the talent level rising around him. Not a bad guy or bad player, but there's no path forward here. People who have been to the practices say that he stands out from the DT crowd size-wise, and not in a good way. I don't disagree. but we worried about this last year as well. There's definitely going to be attrition every year from here forward that hurts because the roster is simply loaded. I see risk on youth at WR and at TE, depth at QB, RB and in the secondary all being factors. That said, they have a process for managing it all, and money to help. The scouts they have covering the portal have also shown that they are top notch. Sarkisian got to learn under the roster retention master in Saban. Keep putting 10+ guys into the league every year and more players will wait their turn than they would virtually anywhere else.- 2022 RB Jaydon Blue
You understand it is bullshit to go back in the early days of a recruiting thread with a volatile recruit and call people out on it, right? In any event, I led the charge in doubting Blue repeatedly through his time on campus at Texas. The guy quit on his HS team, they voted not to take him back, bitched about playing time as a true freshman behind Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, tried to quit, later tried to portal, had massive fumbling issues, never fully made it as a starter and still somehow came through the other side as a draft pick. Zach Evans also got drafted. Elite talent can cause a lot of other sins to be forgiven. Here's hoping he works his ass off and takes a different path than Evans and wins big contracts and prizes in the league. I'm cheering for him like I am every longhorn in the NFL because it certainly helps the program. I'm still in awe that the dude pulled it all off for himself. Also, if there were another guy coming through with all of the same red flags as Blue, I'd still be playing the overwhelming odds that he wouldn't be a take or would bust out. See: Evans, Zach; Hampton, Aeryn; or Alexander, Bear.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
CJ Vogel with a recruiting update today. Someone can put the 2027 part in that thread if they give a shit.- Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)
To be clear, I never said he was dumb. He isn’t. He’s self-made and worth more than the Campbell guy at Tech, allegedly. I don’t really see the Elko hire as significantly different than the Stoops hire other than they knew and liked Elko. Elko was less costly as well. The dumbass in all of this is the former AD and his counsel who cut the first deal with Jimbo and then whoever re-upped without buyout edits. The guy handling the mess would absolutely never agree to that kind of shit in a deal structure.- Tell me about Texas Tech
“How does this Satchel guy have all of this rep and I can’t recall his posts?” … clicks on profile and reads activity… ”Right. “ We need the ability to crowdsource clowns off of forums and let them contain their dumb fucking rep counts in the Cloak Room. It’s a fucking relentless beating at times from that echo chamber.- Las Vegas go hard or go home thread
Why the hell would they ever close Javier’s? That place is always packed and also beloved. And, yes, a killing spree would be in order. Starting with you.- Tell me about Texas Tech
I’ve been to Lubbock. As fond as I am of Michener, he’s full of shit with that quote. It’s a nice attempt of gaslighting on your end, but get fucked for doing so. As to other shitholes not catching shade: 1) Ann Arbor isn’t an “unappealing place”. You accuse people of having an opinion of places while having never been there and then you go ahead and do it yourself. You sound like a fucking idiot with that take. 2) Those other shitholes all catch shade by anyone objectively talking about them. They’re all terrible places per the opinions of numerous people who have been there. 3) Comparing Austin to Calcutta is one of the dumbest things ever posted on this board. Given that this board is swamped with idiotic takes, this should be viewed as an accomplishment of some sort. I’m rewarding you and your continued bullshit with neg rep. Going back and negging your terrible McGuire vs Briles post as well. Purposefully misleading bullshit is not welcome here, shitbag.- Tell me about Texas Tech
Why on earth would we seek new material when we are usually entertained by your behavior with the same ol' same ol'? You have a giant button right there on your virtual chest that says "push me and I'll get pissy and whine about mean ol'Texas on a Texas board". - Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread
