Yeah, you could see Vic telling Jak early in the game "get into her body. She doesn't know what to do."
Maryland doesn't know what to do when you get physical with them.
Jak has value when she stops doing dumb shit on the offensive end.
She's long and can guard other teams best wings. She's also good on the boards. Jak's problem is sometimes she thinks she's Kobe Bryant on the offensive end.
I think Vic made his point last timeout with the refs. They're calling the hacks now.
Our physicality and athleticism seems too much for Maryland. We are dictating everything.
At least they didn't upgrade but jesus call the obvious hacks. They're hacking Oldacre every time in the post. Vic was mad at the end of the 1st quarter.
I hate how refs officiate Oldacre just because she's bigger.
The last 2 possessions of the 1st quarter she was hacked with no call. Now she gets physical because she's frustrated and they're probably going to upgrade this foul.
Really interesting development in this game against the zone.
It's almost like Jak is playing PG out top. I think Vic wants more size up top for entry passes to the post/wing. It also forces the 4 outside which creates more space inside.
It's working.
Both are losses so far are against final 4 teams (IMO) on the road. Our toughest 2 games remaining are both at home in LSU and South Carolina. If we end up with only 4 losses I think we'll be right in the mix for a 1 seed.
I don't think people realize how loaded that team was.
28-1 and only went to 5 sets in 2 matches all year. One being a loss to ISU on the road. If I remember correctly, our only loss was a match where we had several players sick too.
You aren't wrong but we have legit talent at the skill positions.
Not that Bama level talent but Bond, Golden, and Helm are going to be high picks. Wingo will probably also develop into a high draft pick with his athletic profile. This team was far from void of talent at the skill positions although we did have some bad injury luck.
I think Sark just thought Ewers had a high enough floor to win with a dominant defense.
Honestly, it came pretty damn close. 1 or 2 plays away from a national title game in which we would have been favored. I think Sark gets too much criticism for this even though I would have probably gone to Manning.
It was still a tough decision. An experienced QB that can still do some things in the short/intermediate passing game with a dominant D is still a recipe for success.
Huh?
I'm saying sometimes there's luck involved. A big reason our D was dominant is because we didn't have many major injuries. A big reason our offense was probably only a top 20ish offense instead of a top 10 offense was because of injuries.
Sometimes shit doesn't go your way with injuries.
Sark had some warts this year with playcalling but nothing really went right for us.
1) Major injuries at RB including our projected starter. 2) Moore and Bond were banged up for half the year at WR. 3) Our tackles were far from healthy to end the season. 4) Ewers was injured early in the year and played like a guy afraid to get hit in the 2nd half of the season.
Outside of Williams, did we even have another injury on defense?
The parallels with Ohio State and Ryan Day are actually pretty similar.
Both Sark and Day have flaws but only idiots would want them fired or think they're bad coaches. When you keep getting close and stacking talent it's just a matter of time until you break through.
