  1. It's always difficult to interpret what's fact and fiction from the 9.95ers but it definitely sounds like the staff is really high on Lefau. Sark has mentioned him a couple times in press conferences too.
  2. The only potential weakness I see is the block with young middles and losing Phillips from the pins. 1) We will be the best serving team in the country. 2) If we aren't the best offensive team in the country we will be 2nd or 3rd with all the OH talent, Swindle's offense, Skinner, etc. 3) Defensively we should be really good with Halter having another year of experience and if Carlson is as good as Baylor fans say she is defensively. Akana is good too. Probably not the best defensive team in the country but still really good. The key will be the block with those young middles assuming we don't add anyone from the portal.
  3. Yeah, I edited above but this looks to be the portal "DS" addition more than anything. Even though she's technically a setter.
  4. Which I think is her biggest strength to begin with. According to Baylor fans, she's really good at bump sets. This doesn't look like a prototypical "setter" addition. Defense, serving, secondary setter. This is our "DS" addition from the portal even though she's considered a setter.
  5. The Carlson addition makes a lot more sense when reading the volleytalk board and seeing the Baylor comments. She's a completely different player than Swindle. Not much of an offensive threat or great in the block, but very good defensively, and led the Big 12 in service aces/set. Swindle is a more offensive player and puts up a big block. I'm viewing this more as a defensive/serve addition than anything. If there aren't any great DS in the portal this may be the best option. Not sure what that means in the context of a 6-2.
  6. Carlson also led Baylor in aces this year. We are returning our top 4 servers (Skinner, Halter, Akana and Swindle) plus adding two more very good servers in Lauenstein and Carlson. This team could be even better from the service line next year and we saw what it was capable of doing in the national semis and national championship matches.
  7. As somebody that's not well-versed in volleyball as other sports it does seem like Carlson and Swindle would be a good fit together in a 6-2. Isn't Carlson considered one of the best bump setters in the country? Which is a bit different than the strengths Swindle brings. So now I wonder if the plan is to run a 6-2.
  8. I kind of thought the latter. I was somewhat worried about putting all our eggs (no pun) into the basket of someone that had a kid just 6 months ago. I don't think so. I think a OH leaving is more realistic. Even when Jenna was struggling, Elliott stuck with her. I think it's pretty evident that Elliott wasn't a big fan of the talent we had at the pins or he would have benched Jenna.
  9. The other thing is portal players like Rutherford and Carlson turn really good teams into national title contenders. Just keeping them away from other rosters is a win for us. Players want to win championships so why not stack the roster and keep them away from other good teams?
  10. Read all the salty Nebraska fan replies about "Texas ruining the sport." You love to see it.
  11. Kind of insane though, we now have arguably the top setter from the 2022 and 2023 class.
  12. I think this could be a sign that Swindle is having some type of significant surgery due to the injury she was dealing with.
  13. The good thing about winning with transfers is all the top transfers want to play for you. I would also like to thank Cook for all the free advertising.
  14. You're somebody that only likes to use metrics when they make your point. Texas turned up the defense way before the postseason as already clearly proven by the T-Rank adj D over the last 20 games. You don't want to admit that Texas was a good defensive team last year other than "a miracle postseason run defensively" because it doesn't fit your narrative.
  15. It is lazy. The "Texas just turned it on defensively the last couple of weeks" is a lazy take. They didn't just all of a sudden figure out how to play defense. Texas was a top 6ish defense for about a 20-game stretch.
  16. You love to post "metrics" to prove your point but I'm a jerk for using "metrics" to show Texas was the #6 defense over the last 20 games? Amazing how that works.
  17. I just think it's a lazy argument to say Texas "turned it up" or "turned it on" at the end of the season. Whatever you want to call it. They held K-State (#37 Adj O to 66 points), West Virginia (#14 Adj O to 60 points), Baylor (#2 Adj O to 72 points), etc way before the last couple of weeks. This team was really good defensively way before the end of the season. Which is why T-Rank had Texas as the #6 defense in the country over the last 20 games. It's just a really lazy argument with no truth at all.
  18. I said as much above. But to argue "Texas just turned on the defense" over a couple weeks is simply not true.
  19. Touchy? No. It's just funny. Texas didn't "turn on the defense" to end last year. They were one of the best defensive teams in the country over the last 20 games or so. Now will that happen again this year? No clue but it doesn't make your argument any less dumb.
  20. Texas was the #6 defense in the country in the last 20 games (per T-Rank) last year. The idea they just "turned it on" is funny.
  21. Yeah and that's dumb. Individual awards should be inclusive of what you do in the postseason. The most important time for individual performance.
  22. The point is maybe you should wait to judge how we end up defensively until you see the finished project. Last year, at this same time you were bitching about defense and we ended up as the #13 AdjD. You even admitted there were drastic improvements defensively at the end of the season.
  23. This was a shadow_operative post on the same date last year. Now this might be true over the long-term but it definitely ended up being wrong last year. We ended up being a good defensive team after some major defensive struggles to end non-conference.
  24. I know what the "metrics" were. We also gave up 81 points to Rice, 72 points to ULL, and 72 points to A&M Commerce at this time last year. We had some pretty damn glaring issues defensively to finish non-conference last year. You made a billion posts saying as much last year.
