  1. Given how important S&C coaches are to the day-to-day operations, why would Smart hire Cochran into a position-coach role? It certainly will rattle the foundation of the Bama program, which has significant value to Georgia. That said, why not also place Cochran in a position where he will have access to the players on a daily basis?
  2. ESPN - What are the possible destinations for John Beilein in college basketball? https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/28722397/what-possible-destinations-john-beilein-college-basketball Retirement Texas Boston College DePaul
  3. For the uninitiated: Twitter guy: Yo, Cleveland guy here. I bought your jersey and now wear it when I paint. Johnny Football: Appreciate the $120 bucks. Paint away Twitter guy: Well, it was actually a t shirt with your name and number
  4. https://www.timesofisrael.com/comedy-club-drops-comedian-ari-shaffir-after-comment-about-kobe-bryant/ “Kobe Bryant died 23 years too late today,” Shaffir says in the video. “He got away with rape because all the Hollywood liberals who attack comedy enjoy rooting for the Lakers more than they dislike rape. Big ups to the hero who forgot to gas up his chopper. I hate the Lakers. What a great day.” Shaffir was dropped by his talent agency following the tweet. On Tuesday, he posted an explanation on Instagram. “Every time a beloved celebrity dies I post some horrible shit about them,” he wrote. “I’ve been doing it for years now. I like destroying gods. And right when a famous person dies they’re at their most worshiped. So as a response to all the outpouring of sympathy on social media, I post something vile. it’s just a joke. I don’t really hate any of the people.”
  5. Warehime may have been depositing a sewer pickle and decided not to answer his phone. CTH needed to act and act fast.
  6. Thanks to his guaranteed deal at Texas, Orlando makes at least $1.7mm per year regardless of where he coaches. At TTU, his total tax bill will be $604k. At USC, his total tax bill will be $781k, thanks to state taxes of $177k. Orlando would be forgoing $177k to be a DC at USC over LB at TTU.
  7. The criteria for auto-admit at UTD or Texas A&M has changed over the past few years and UTD has become considerably more selective. In 2014, auto-admit to UTD required one of SAT 1200 or greater (Math + Verbal) ACT 26 or greater top-15% of class In 2014, Aggy auto-admit required one of top-10% top-25% AND 1300 SAT (min 600 on each of Math/Verbal, IIRC) - I forget the ACT Today UTD - top-10% Texas A&M - one of top-10% top-25% AND [1360 SAT (min 620M, 660V) OR 30 ACT (min 27 M/V)] Fwiw, the SAT changed in 2016 and the College Board's own concordance shows that a 1360 on the new SAT is the same as a 1300 on the old SAT. Since 2014, UTD's auto-admit standards have improved and Aggy's have not. UTD's mid-50 SAT scores have been consistently higher than Aggy for some time. In the 2014 time-frame, they were offering significant $$ to top students. I'm not sure if that has rolled off at this point.
  8. The one on the far right has asked to speak to the manager.
  9. Lamar Jackson scored a 13 on the Wonderlic, which is in the lowest quartile of all test takers. It stands to reason that Herman might have the assessment that Lamar Jackson might struggle with some of the nuances of the QB position. I also suspect dozens of other recruiters had similar concerns. Perhaps he would have been a great safety - I kid. That said, Ohio State had and recruited the following QBs when Herman was around (and associated wonderlic): Braxton Miller (9, 19 on retest), Cardale Jones (25), JT Barrett (19). Fwiw, he was offered by Nebraska's Tim Beck
  10. If we stick with the G150, we can afford more buyouts.
  11. "He's back and he's making fun of Tennesseans." Schiano has matured neither personally or professionally if he's acting like that. Looks like he'll be a shit-heel forever. For perspective, the Tennessee fanbase, influencers, or whatever thought Schiano was too great an embarrassment and liability to hire. This is the same fanbase that revered guys like Phil Fulmer and Bruce Pearl.
  12. 2015 IndyStar article on Frank Gore. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/2015/10/02/frank-gore-indianapolis-colts-san-francisco-49ers-miami-hurricanes/73181198/
  13. At least it's a nice day and the students and new grads can enjoy the weather/experience. Beats the shit out of Rout 66.
  14. 2016 Baylor was a cut-paste mistake. 2008 Mizzou was #11 2003 Nebraska was #12 Agree w/ much of the responses to my comments. We've never claimed Memorial Stadium was a significant home field advantage Record against top-10 teams was decent until 2010 2006 - Lost #1 tOSU 2007 - Lost to unranked KSU 2010 - Lost to UCLA, ISU, 25 Baylor, 12 OkSt, 17 aTm 2011 - Lost to 6 OkSt, 16 KSU 2012 - Lost to 8 WVU, TCU
  15. For Texas, I can only find 4 top-10 wins at home over the same time period: 2016: #10 Notre Dame 50-47, 2OT Notre Dame finished the year unranked with 4 wins 2008: #9 OSU 28-24 2005: #10 TTU 52-17 1999: #3 Nebraska The home-and-home with OU limits the home-ranked-opponent scenarios, too. Texas beat a ranked OU team 6 times: 2006 (#14), 2008 (#1), 2009 (#20), 2013 (#12), 2015 (#10), 2018 (#7). 3 are top-10. Not defending Aggy, just presenting facts.
  16. I found Ward's show as the only palatable drive-time show in Austin. He was consistent, typically followed a logical path, and his topics were relevant. My one criticism would be directed to his lack of preparation for any type of sports discussions. He tended to speak in platitudes and not have basic facts that 15-30 minutes of daily preparation would yield. I have a similar criticism of Godbolt - preparation. He seems to show up and wing it far more often than not. His value add is that he's a personality and has many wonderful anecdotes to share. One that stands out: his tryst with Carly Simon.
  17. When I was on a sentencing jury in the mid-90s, we were directed by the judge that discussing possible parole (and, hence, the effective prison term) during deliberations would constitute juror misconduct. We had to assume that the defendant would serve the entire term of the sentence.
  18. Question for the lawyers here: Could allowing Guyger to testify be considered "ineffective assistance of counsel?"
  19. Texas Tribune chimes in on mistake of fact and castle doctrine as it applies to this case. https://www.texastribune.org/2019/09/30/what-texas-castle-doctrine-amber-guyger-murder-trial/ Snip:
  20. I agree that Strong's record would have been 1-15 (maybe 2-14) vs. OU. I find it difficult to imagine one more year w/ Strong, much less another 13. I think we'd have seen torches and pitchforks from the entire alumni base well in advance of that.
  21. Brown's Texas teams were 7-9 against OU for a 44% winning percentage. Strong's Texas teams were 1-2 for a 33% winning percentage. 1998-1999 2-0 2000-2004 0-5 (OU wins were by an average of 27 points, including a 52 and 49 point margin) 2005-2009 4-1 2010-2013 1-3 (OU wins were by an average of 29 points) Average loss margin under Strong was 5 points. Losses under Brown, though, were far more humiliating. Not that it really matters, as Strong was objectively a horrible coach.
