  1. perhaps a turning point to THE turning point in our program. then again that turning point could be akin to one of those roundabouts intersections with a head Asian driver at helm (not you, Tom). any win against OSU in the past decade should be proudly celebrated. Fuck yeah!
  2. no LJH was THE exception at running the ball in small spaces for a guy his size. I can't think of a valid comparison in terms of size and athlete (non-QB), though I'm shooting my foot here. LJH also seems to throw the damn ball well for a WR. We may have a few younger guys on our roster a la Eagles, Kennedy Estelle, and Troy Omeire who could fit the bill of a larger WR getting direct snaps from Center or handoff from QB but that just seems doubtful for an WR or that size. I still think Herman's schemes excels when one his primary running backs backs perform analogous functions (RB sweeps / Jet Motions) or whatever it was they did at Ohio State to get Zeke the ball. What Humphrey lacked in speed, he certainly made up for in boxing out for 1v1's. I love me some Eagles but haven't seen him up to LJH or Collin's level of boxing out. Below, are two plays in a row where he gets "outplayed" by their 6'0" corner. https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2019/09/18171123/Sam-Ehlinger-catches-LSU-with-10-players-on-the-field-for-TD-pass-to-Brennan-Eagles-ESPN.mp4?_=1 1.) Possible timing issues between Sam and Eagles. Still, it weren't pretty. DB got more of his hand on the ball than Eagles* 2.) Possibly worst execution than the first but with a better result. Remember last year when Kris Boyd would mistime balls in the air that could have been otherwise intercepted. Yeah, that could have easily been an interception.* *The optimist in me says Sam and Eagles weren't on the same page on the first play, and corrected it (1-0 BABY!) on the second play by outsmarting their safety into misplaying the ball (a la Kris Boyd). Don't listen to me though -- there's an article below that provides some detailed GIF analysis of plays from this season.
  3. most times the "bad guy that loses" is the underdog
  4. i thought it was cool. maybe a little overdone. the transition from lightsaber to lockeroom Sam followed by a Lil Jon "yeaaahhhh" makes me "uh" a bit.
  5. leaning towards Tillman, based on what coaches have said about his instincts.
  6. not judging his ability, at all. just trying to get to the bottom of the ctj post
  7. 12 minutes ago, texifornia said: fuck, that's right. how about Gbenda? a few people in this thread mentioned his name but he was also getting snaps at RB just last week? I think Herman indicated in his presser yesterday he's moving back to LB if Danny is healthy (shit, I dunno all this could be made up). normally, the less talented of a defensive group (LB/DL) gets transferred/co-trained to their couterpart on Offense (looking at you, Tope). maybe Gbenda's an exception.
  8. in the same boat. asking for a friend
  9. Jacobi? Floyd? What's up with Hobbs - he certainly looks the part. I realize katfid was joking further down the thread but Luke Brockermeyer received a lot of off-season awards. I already love that guy. Great guy to have as a 2nd/3rd stringer and we need to get better PWOs. 3rd string makes 2nd string better and so on.
  10. if you had told me a few months back that Josh Moore would no longer be on the team, i'd flip out. He was my breakout player of the year. IIRC, Herman called his mom last year to personally thank her on the way he was raised -- he does this to a handful of freshman. oh well, more reps for Jake and Dev. I haven't checked the timeline of events to compare when Josh got into trouble vs. us moving Dev to the inside -- reason (portrayed by the media/coaches) for this move was because Eagles was shinning on the outside (Dev's previous position). But, it makes me wonder if that had anything to do with it as well. From my poor research, it looks like Dev was moved to slot in early August and maybe earlier while Josh was arrested in early August (https://www.hookem.com/2019/08/26/as-legal-process-plays-out-texas-suspends-receiver-joshua-moore/) Likely stupid speculation here on my part, but instead, a good coincidence to have as Dev started getting more snaps in the slot before he was "forced" to by stupid acts of hit teammate. Edit. One last thing - I don't doubt that Josh is leaving but what's the deciding factor. Verdict?
  11. my memory if fading but I think Cosmi and Kerstetter were in the same class. Kerstetter started as a true freshman while Cosmi got to redshirt. My man
  12. I'm leaning that way. I would say that Kerstetter showed promise as a true freshman tackle, over Cosmi who were in the same class* It allowed Cosmi to RS his Freshman Year while Kerstetter showed a promising future at a true FR starter at RT* *this could be completely wrong, going from memory
  13. wow, watched this play at least 20 times and didn't notice Junior until you mentioned. fucking mauling it... pancakes the huge DT at the very end of the clip. looked like a pass pro concept. on top of that, it was pretty much a 1v1 battle that freed Shackelford to block an LB at the next level. if Junior weren't able to block that well, he'd likely get support from Shack, who wouldn't be able to block at the next level. we're getting there yeaaahhh
  14. Do we still have chat transcripts for media availability like during mackbrown-texasfootball.com? These fucking reporter questions without mics -- wtf how long has this been going on. I thought CDC addressed that. Anyway, if anyone has been to texassports.com, you know how fucking shitty the user interface is (probably worthy of it's own thread). Honest question here.
  15. Damn. This has been one of the best football discussion threads so far on Surly. Not saying you guys know what you're talking about (bc fuck you guys!) but at least y'all aren't throwing personal jabs; but instead, providing some substance while looking for answers before downright conviction. Definitely helps to have the level headed "Negavtive 6th Street" posters (personal jab there) induce some positivity. Carry on, folks!
  16. they actually have a practice drill specifically for this situation. qb rolls out and wr sync up for a catch on sidelines. definitely requires timing an qb/wr to be on same page. haven't seen this drill thrown that far downfield though.
  17. ive been call pacman too but now that i think about it's packman2
  18. Herman already said if we expect a guy is good and, the staff knows we won't have him for all four years -- expect them to play early and often. Jalen Green was mentioned in a similar manner at this point last year. Expect to see more of Jake Smith and Sweat as 4 year guys.
  19. I personally feel that whistling at games, preferably next to the nearest audio camera, take the game atmosphere to a whole new level. Fans seem to love it. I'm sure it sounds even better on TV.
  20. Since Mr. Computer man is asleep or unwilling to fufill my request, may I post this video again. It should be time stampded but that shit work for me last time. Start @26seconds and the replay after that.
  21. The throw just so happened when our TE engaged with the LB. Maybe we got lucky. Maybe it shouldn't have been thrown in the first place. Still my favorite play of the game.
  22. Yup, you're right. it went right over his head. And then he somehow avoided throwing away from the LB/DB by that guy. i wouldn't call it a bad pass or mental mistake if you can get away with it i sometimes it's easier to throw right over the helmet as apposed to the outside, where arms may be outstretched.. NFL QBs do this all tie time on screens. Mr. Computer man, can you please include the endzone replay? That really shows you the tight window and precision required.
