Two kindsa answers to the question.  You have characters who are well-made, well-played who are important to the show, who you hate as people.  Betty is an example.  Pete Campbell spent time there too.
You also have characters who are poorly written, poorly acted and not important to the plot.  For example:

i agree and while january jones played it fine and it was never destined to be a likable character, her scenes are unwatchable because of her plotlines. so it's not really on her, but she suffers, much like skyler white.

the real winner for the worst character on the best show...

The West Wing Cast: Where They Are Today

she was so bad they wrote her off midseason and never mentioned her again.

Not everything is for everyone. I bailed on Game of Thrones and Slow Horses after a few episodes of each, due to tremendous boredom.

But this is a really good show.

slow horses is one of the best shows on tv. you should get back on that.

Yes, and it's how he knew the newspaper Milchik showed them was fake.

    the bullshit gazette?

  3. i thought i read someplace that the 50th was going to show/recreate 1 sketch per season of the show (their favorite or most famous or something?). no idea how accurate that is, but i'm sure they're trying to one-up the 40th, which will be difficult.

if they're recreating some of the sketches, that would explain chevy.

  4. i finally got around to watching it and just finished it. i liked the characters but something about the split story bugged me. i can do serial killer or i can do personal vendetta against cross, but i can't do both. i think storyflow suffered because of it.

fbi lady won 3rd place in the linda cardellini look-a-like contest.

oh, and this is nitpicky as shit, and probably kinda racist, but it bothered me how there were 3 main male black cops (well, 2 cops and 1 former cop) and they all had the same exact amish/lebron beard. it was easy to tell them apart, i'm not that racist, but it was distracting and easily avoided.

would love to see them settle into a solid story for s2. i don't know the patterson books but i assume there are plenty to choose from.

  5. sounds like a lot of you enjoyed the first one.

i've only seen a few minutes of the first movie. in one scene, affleck had an accent. in another scene, he did not have an accent. i thought this trailer might clear up the mystery, but it did not.

were there some scenes in the first movie where he faked an accent?

dylan has had some trouble keeping a job for very long. he even tried his hand at the waystar royco management training program.

So who breaks off to find themselves / take their own shot in Austin next season?

Also interesting because assembly hall is… not a restaurant, but could easily be made to look like one.

hopefully the entirety of season 3 went to jump into town lake.

  8. scarface is trash. the worst of 80's filmmaking. the untouchables also has some 80's feel, but in a great way. i love that movie.

i don't know what constitutes a "gangster movie" and what doesn't, but there's a line in pulp fiction (paraphrasing) when jules is talking about jimmy's wife who's gonna come home and see in her kitchen "a bunch of gangsters doing a bunch of gangster shit". i don't really consider pulp fiction to be a gangster movie, but that phrase is how i've described snatch, which is a great fucking gangster movie. in fact, i saw it last friday at the new beverly (the old theater that tarantino bought and renovated across the street from el coyote, where sharon tate had her last meal).

i've seen it probably 30x but rarely start to finish, and it holds up.

road to perdition, while also possibly not a true "gangster movie", has a much more honest depiction of frank nitti, but i can still enjoy the cartoon character from the untouchables. i watch road to perdition whenever it's on. i'm not sure you can get a better cast than hanks, newman, jude law, daniel craig, stanley tucci. the cinematography and music is also insane. capone was supposed to be a character with 1-2 scenes, but they cut them. smart move.

    godfather movies

    goodfellas

    snatch

    road to perdition

    a bronx tale

i also have a soft spot in my heart for barry levinson's bugsy. huge cast, great performances from beatty and bening. often overlooked film. and harvey keitel is hilarious in it.
