  1. The desire to be a computer science major at UT is a dead giveaway. Thinking of Walter Nolen? He gives me Albert Haynesworth vibes.
  2. Seems like another data point that McKinley may be Alfred Collins 2.0.
  3. The similarities of Texas and Tennessee since the late 2000’s are eerie. The only difference is the one year of Kiffin. They both had a longtime coach who was a great recruiter, not so great game day coach, who out talented everyone but would lose to a big rival (OU and Florida), then both got over the hump and won a BCS Championship. They both passed their sell by date and were ousted. Skip the Kiffin year. Strong and Dooley had the identical record in their respective three years. Butch Jones and Tom Herman both gave the appearance of a return to prominence before imploding. Really hoping Sark doesn’t mirror Pruitt even though their records for their first two seasons are identical. Sark seems to be handling everything off the field light years better than Pruitt so far. I think you got a good one with Heupel, possibly a great one. He really reminds me of when Spurrier hit the league in 1990.
  4. From what I’ve heard, this was just very low level cash and benefit payments on a widespread scale with incredible sloppiness. The total figure I’ve heard paid out over two years was $60,000 to 16 players and their families, making up 200 separate violations. This is the kind of shit that was done at every place Pruitt worked before Tennessee, those places just had a better infrastructure for keeping it under wraps. It all looks very petty when compared to the new NIL landscape.
  5. Need one of the 5 stars to jump in soon.
  6. What are they talking about here? It sounds like Ketch is saying Davis (Weston?) is flipping to us?
  7. I totally forgot a guilty pleasure of mine - 1982’s Cat People, with Nastassja Kinski at the height of her powers.
  8. I got the sense that we wanted him. This wasn’t an Anthony Hill level of recruiting battle but we definitely wanted him. He is just a safety, so if you’re going to lose a battle, there are worse positions to miss and we have other options.
  9. 1982 was the year for genre classics, I saw almost all of these in the theater: - Blade Runner - The Thing - ET - Poltergeist - Wrath of Khan - Conan the Barbarian - Tron - Rocky 3 - Dark Crystal - Fast Times at Ridgemont High - 48 Hours - Creepshow - Diner - The King of Comedy -First Blood And then a bunch of Oscar bait like Gandhi, Sophie’s Choice, The Verdict, Officer and a Gentlemen and Tootsie
  10. I’ve bought one the last few years because I’m old and enjoy the ritual of buying college football preview magazines in the summer. Having one devoted entirely to my favorite team is a bonus.
  11. Seems like a random time for him to post this. Or does he do it for every school he’s considering?
  12. Melvin Hills, please deliver us from this purgatory tomorrow
  13. Ethan Strauss calls this “Fracking the Pie.” Leagues aren’t even trying to grow their fan base, they now focus on extracting more and more dollars out of each existing fan. Online gambling is a big part of this.
  14. I feel like I’ve heard one of the IT guys on the podcast saying that Swanson is showing some real ability, he’s just having trouble putting on weight and may have a longer development curve because of it.
  15. Still better than Lawrence Welk
  16. The North Dallas Forty high-low special
  17. Getting some Alfred Collins vibes here. He seems to have the same tall, lanky, body type as Collins as well. Being a smart kid from a good family who wants to major in computer science speaks well of him as a person and for his future. Not sure how well that fits the profile of successful defensive linemen. Definitely a take based on ability, hope Bo Davis can bring out the dog in him.
  18. And it feels so good
  19. Made it seem like a Dr. Who episode to me, but YMMV.
  20. I’m with you on this one. There’s only so much you can do with an 80-year old action movie protagonist, which is why they shouldn’t have tried. The flashback de-aging effects were very good, but watching old man Indy in the present day punch out everyone, ride on horses through subway tunnels, and jump out of airplanes after being shot just takes me out of the movie. I know we are used to supernatural endings in these things, but the third act of this one just seemed like it crossed a line into the ridiculous for me. It also had two of the features of modern movies that I hate which are an overlong running time, and too many big, complex, CGI action sequences. It’s the Marvelization of action movies, and it’s just not for me. The Helena Shaw character just came across as selfish and unsympathetic. Phoebe Waller-Bridges is a fine actress, but the character is just written that way. I think they were going for “lovable rogue” but never got close. I was expecting her to meet a similar fate as the Alison Doody character in Last Crusade due to the way they set her up. It will take a major rewrite of her character to make her the lead for future spin-offs I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen, but I did love the two short appearances by major characters from the earlier movies. Those were my favorite scenes. It’s using nostalgia for cheap emotional good will, but it worked for me. Overall, I didn’t hate this movie, it was fun getting back to a theater and watching Indy on the big screen, but I remember almost nothing about the plot of the Crystal Skull and doubt I will for this one in 10 years either. Like the end of Last Crusade, it can be hard to let something that you love go, but they should have done it with this franchise. Because Disney now has the rights, they couldn’t even open the movie with the Paramount mountain logo transitioning into a shot of a real mountain like all of its predecessors. Sorry to be a wet blanket, I went in hoping for a better end to this series.
  21. Basically the “Jimbo didn’t all of a sudden forget how to coach!” rationalization.
  22. Their OOC opponents are Tennessee-Martin, Ball State, UAB, and Georgia Tech.
