  1. Twenty plus DOGE staffers resign, and sound a warning on their way out the door. https://apnews.com/article/doge-elon-musk-federal-government-resignations-usds-6b7e9b7022e6d89d69305e9510f2a43c
  2. For my wife’s career the fallback was hiring folks with engineering degrees, even for jobs that required no engineering work. Made her mental, because it cost the city more than the job ought to have, and also because too many of these particular hires were clueless at how to manage.
  3. Back when the highway was built atop Ben White, I made use of the new U-turn lanes to go north, at the Menchaca intersection, and immediately saw there had been a bad wreck, with smoke still in the air. A teenage boy was screaming and going from one pile of flesh to another, and these were yards apart. “You killed my girlfriend!” he kept screaming. (He had been t-boned by a speeding truck that ran the light, his passenger door had come open and his date had been crushed and severed with each rollover). Finally, he yelled, “You ruined my truck!” A woman stepped from the bus stop, held open her arms, and he collapsed into a human embrace. Will never forget the horror, nor the empty feeling that filled the air.
  4. If Cannon is nominated, at least there won’t be push back to the idea that cunt was bought and paid for by turnip. Totally in the bag. Like we always knew.
  5. Have any of the usual bunch come out to condemn this blatant racism? I wouldn’t know as they are my ignore list.
  6. Samsung broke ground in Taylor in 2022. TSMC broke ground in 2021. This might have helped that happen: “It was this financial fallout that led to the creation of the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors and Science Act (otherwise known as the CHIPS Act). Signed into law on August 9, 2022, the CHIPS and Science Act directs nearly $53 billion to “American semiconductor research” (source is one of your links.) Tariffs had nothing to do with that. Neither did turnip.
  7. Were it not for the abortion ban, I’d agree that abortions ought only be done by licensed doctors. I will focus my anger at those who lied under oath to get into a position to upend a right that was recognized, and those who seek the harshest penalties for the crime of exercising a right. The only way to rescind a right held by US citizens is a Constitutional Amendment.
  8. The ninth circuit denied a stay of Alsup’s order to reinstate the fired federal probationary employees. The cote was 2-1. How soon will SCOTUS act on this? Day after tomorrow? https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25589924-order-denying-admin-stay/
  9. I thought oil prices were falling. And the deplorable chalk up another shameful victory: ”Navajo Code Talkers disappear from military websites after Trump DEI order” https://www.axios.com/local/salt-lake-city/2025/03/17/navajo-code-talkers-trump-dei-military-websites-wwii
  10. You joke, and I laughed. The better play would have been to kidnap the immunity voting SCOTUS justices, and fly them to Gitmo. And constantly explain why their ruling was a threat to the Constitution, and that, therefore, they already had agreed that their kidnapping was legal and that Biden had immunity from any consequence for doing so. Explain that if they would rescind the ruling they would be released. All what ifs aside, it was apparent this was coming. Past presidents made hard choices that held on to the Republic. As much as I love Joe, I can’t help but see his return to politics as usual, which he was great at, as a huge mistake.
  11. Well, did he have turnip riddled with Seal Team bullets? Apparently, he had the power to do so, given the threat turnip then posed, and now demonstrates.
  12. Haven’t seen this posted. Republicans are throwing the confetti they’ve made of the Constitution in the air.
  13. The persecuting has hit a higher gear,. ”Attorney General Ken Paxton Announces Arrest of Houston-Area Abortionist and Crackdown on Clinics Providing Illegal Abortions Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the arrest of Maria Margarita Rojas, 48, for providing illegal abortions and illegally operating a network of clinics in the Northwest Houston area. Rojas, a midwife known as “Dr. Maria,” was taken into custody in Waller County and charged with the illegal performance of an abortion, a second-degree felony, as well as practicing medicine without a license.” https://www.oag.state.tx.us/news/releases/attorney-general-ken-paxton-announces-arrest-houston-area-abortionist-and-crackdown-clinics
  14. Republicans are in full revolt against the law. “A kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University’s medical school has been deported from the United States, even though she had a valid visa and a court order temporarily blocking her expulsion, according to her lawyer and court papers.” https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/us/brown-university-rasha-alawieh-professor-deported.html?unlocked_article_code=1.4U4.QrEr.UrgkZpB3n34R&smid=url-share Edit: @bolverk already posted this in DT.
  15. A French lawmaker is demanding the return of the Statue of Liberty. https://www.newsweek.com/french-lawmaker-demands-return-statue-liberty-2045670
  16. By studying USAID memos, the NYT estimates that “dark maga’s” demonic plan will result in the deaths of over three million people by the end of the year. I think this is the link Might be wrong because I canceled my subscription. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/02/health/usaid-cuts-deaths-infections.html
  17. Fine. Orban hasn’t, yet. What about the second part of my post? Do you think the US military will not balk at being deployed against its citizens? If you think there is a chance that could happen, then an opportunity to weed out, diminish, those principled enough to object would be a safer first step. Trump certainly acts like a moron. But, he is not the only power player in this threat to our Republic.
  18. Can you think of a past authoritarian leader, in control of a powerful military, who did not seek to expand their rule, and empire? We hear of the hope that our military will fracture if ordered to invade Canada. Firing on US citizens who resist the dismantling of our Constitutional Republic is, to me, more likely to create that sort of discord among the fighting forces. What better way to force the issue than to order the Pentagon to attack foreign lands?
  19. Three hour ago, the news was that a federal judge issued a restraining order. What did I miss? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/03/15/judge-blocks-trump-alien-enemies-act/82408225007/
  20. Another green card immigrant detained and held for unspecified reasons. This time “violent interrogation“ is alleged. The guy is an electrical engineer from Germany, with a family, including US born children. I guess it isn’t safe for green card holders to leave the country. https://www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2025-03-14/green-card-holder-from-new-hampshire-interrogated-at-logan-airport-detained
  21. Former dean of University of Michigan Law, Lee Bollinger: I read posts on Surly written by folks who demonstrate this failure of imagination. I’m probably prone to the same failing, but not on the finding out part of electing the turnip.
  22. So, the wind will direct this fire toward Fredericksburg?
